The Texas Longhorns continue to make a run an a number of the nation's top prospects. One of those is 4-star Nick Brooks out of John F. Kennedy High in Cedar Rapids, Ia.

Brooks, 6-7 and 350 pounds, told OnTexasFootball Tuesday that he does have a visit scheduled to Texas this spring. The date of that visit is expected to be April 20 for the Longhorns spring game. 

Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood made a stop at JFK High in January, and the two were already in contact prior. The Longhorns offered March 1, 2023. 

Brooks has 31 offers to date with Iowa considered the favorite by many headed into the spring. That offer list includes SEC programs Alabama, Auburn, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Mississippi State and Tennessee. 

Brooks played his freshman season at JFK High in Cedar Rapids before moving to the Atlanta area as a sophomore. He played his sophomore year at St. Francis in Alpharetta before moving back to Cedar Rapids prior to his junior year. 

Baker stopped by Randle High School in February for one of the first stops as the Texas DL coach. 

Texas is the 14th offer for the 6-foot-2 and 305-pound defensive lineman. Right now, Sims has just one official visit locked in – Texas Tech on June 21-23.

So far, Sims holds offers from Texas A&M, LSU, Texas Tech, Kansas State and several others.

Now that most of us have taken care of lunch and are cruising towards 5:00 p.m. to come rolling around, spend a few minutes reading about the defense.

DT Alex January – Duncanville HS (TX)

The lone early enrollee in the interior of the defensive line comes in with big shoes to fill. Luckily, there has been plenty of positive remarks surrounding Alex January surrounding his approach to the winter conditioning program. January has slimmed down about 15 pounds since his arrival to campus. The staff is working on replacing bad weight with good weight and January has been a sponge when it comes to taking in everything he can from the staff so far.

EDGE Zina Umeozulu – Allen HS (TX)

Both edge prospects in this article have received tremendous praise for their body transformations since January 1. Umeozulu has the physical frame of a dream edge prospect and is completely bought into the weights. The key for Umeozulu is to make sure the light stays on when the pads come into play. He has a chance to really impress early on in his career.

EDGE Colin Simmons – Duncanville HS (TX)

Simmons is sitting right around 240 pounds at the moment, a 20-pound increase from where he was in Orlando for the Under Armour All American game. The nutritional side of college has been the biggest change for Simmons, but he deserves his flowers for the work in the weight room. At 240 pounds, you can expect to see Simmons get some run with the two-deep in the spring, any additional weight at this part of his career is icing on the cake.

LB Tyanthony Smith – Jasper HS (TX)

I have heard Tyanthony Smith's several times in regards to early enrollees with the best attitude towards offseason workouts. There has been progress to Smith's frame in the past two months, but there remains plenty of room to grow. He likely won't be physically ready to take extended snaps in the spring, but the will to work is there and by the time fall camp comes around, you can expect a completely different looking prospect.

DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell – IMG Academy (FL)

I am very excited to see JJR in pads for the first time in college. Of anyone in the class, you could make the argument for Johnson-Rubell to be the most intelligent player on the field at any given moment, which is going to be huge with his career starting at nickel. JJR does not have a huge frame, but he does have a good start to his build and will eventually be a player at 5-foot-10. 

DB Xavier Filsaime – McKinney HS (TX)

Similarly to what was said about Ryan Wingo earlier today, Xavier Filsaime has been the defensive MVP of offseason workouts so far. He has enough athleticism to play right away. Filsaime is tremendously smooth in and out of breaks plus has the top end speed Texas has desired at the safety spot. Whether it be drills, throwing sessions or conditioning, Filsaime is pushing the incumbents the most of any EE.

DB Kobe Black – Waco Connally HS (TX)

Get ready to see some big time physical development from Black over the next few months. He was already a plus-athlete, but now that he has received professional training from Torre Becton's staff, expect to see him continue on this developmental trend.

DB Wardell Mack – John Ehret HS (LA)

Mack's name has surfaced a few times early from those close to workouts. Earlier this offseason I reported on the return of swagger coming back to the Texas DB room. Well, Mack has been a good proponent of that movement. He has a great mindset and is ultra competitive which is a key for defensive backs. Mack has impressed early and often since arriving on campus.

Cedar Hill (Texas) High offensive linemen Jordan Coleman (6-5, 362) and Devin Coleman (6-4.5, 320) have locked in an official visit date to Texas. 

The talented and fast rising duo tells OnTexasFootball they will officially visit Texas June 21-23. 

The visit being set up comes on the heels of Steve Sarkisian, Tashard Choice and Kyle Flood stopping by the school in January. And a subsequent offer in February to Devin Coleman.

OTF made a stop at Cedar Hill High last Monday to get the latest on the powerful duo.

Jordan Coleman was offered by Texas June 11, 2023 after a stellar camp performance. And Devin Coleman was offered by the Longhorns February 19, 2024 after offensive line coach Kyle Flood made an in person evaluation in January. 

"It (offer) meant a lot," Devin Coleman told OnTexasFootball. "Because my brother, Jordan, already has a Texas offer. I've been telling him I want Texas, I want Texas. He was telling me to be patient and they are going to come. Coach (Kyle) Flood told me to be patient. When it came, I was real excited. Jordan had been in my ear saying it was going to come, be patient and keep working hard." 

Coleman picked up nine offers since January. Due in large part to playing a lot of snaps on the offensive line in 2023, which changed the trajectory of his recruitment. That 2024 offer list includes Texas, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Colorado, Duke, Baylor and SMU. He received summer offers from Oklahoma and Houston.

QB Trey Owens - Cypress Fair HS (TX)

The freshman quarterback arrived to campus at 6-foot-5 and 238 pounds. Owens will work into the third team reps this spring with the focus on body transformations and the understanding of the offense. Sarkisian and Milwee will be working to get Owens up to speed this spring with calls, formations and assignments.

RB Jerrick Gibson – IMG Academy (TX)

It appears the freshman running back will be wearing No. 9 this season after a post to his IG story yesterday afternoon. I will be interested in seeing just how big Gibson gets to this spring. He was listed in high school at 200 pounds, though having seen him most recently in Orlando, I would not be surprised to see Gibson come in around 210-215. Seeing him in-person, you would think Gibson has to turn sideways to walk through doorframes.

RB Christian Clark – Mountain Pointe HS (AZ)

The frame of Gibson gets a lot of love and for good reason, but do not sleep on Christian Clark and the work he has done this offseason. Clark's lower body is really where he makes his money when has the ball in his hands. He has a great lower half and the burst has been noticeable in workouts. For both running backs, the key to getting on the field early is what approach they are able to take in the pass protection game. 

WR Ryan Wingo – Saint Louis University (MO) 

I have not heard more praise about an early enrollee this offseason than I have about Wingo, he has probably been the MVP among the EE's so far. It was clear in San Antonio for the All American Bowl that he was special and that has resulted in a smooth transition to the winter conditioning program. Wingo has tremendous speed for his size and has been one of the best overall performers in winter camp regardless of class. It also doesn't hurt that he has been a standout in throwing sessions either. 

WR Parker Livingstone – Lovejoy HS (TX)

Livingstone possesses more height than any other wide receiver on the roster and combines that with a great top-end speed. The staff is hoping for Livingstone to add about 15 pounds to get up to 200 pounds or so by the end of his freshman season. Livingstone has been a constant attendee in throwing sessions and again, surprises folks with his running ability.

WR Aaron Butler – Calabasas HS (CA)

It was rather unfortunate Butler joined the Texas class as late as he did. Texas fans have yet to realize what kind of talent he possesses at the receiver position. For those fans who have watched Butler's senior year Hudl, you have a better idea. Our Bobby Burton has reported earlier this spring that Butler is right behind Ryan Wingo as the most impressive freshman wide receiver. Butler's acceleration is noticeable instantly. 

WR Freddie Dubose – Smithson Valley HS (TX)

How healthy is the knee for Dubose? I have heard it's still getting back to 100%. Dubose helped bring Smithson Valley to a state championship appearance in 2023 though there was still a little hitch in and out of breaks when watching him run routes. On a positive note, Dubose is closing in on 190 pounds after previously being listed around 175 in high school.

TE Jordan Washington – Langham Creek (TX)

It has been a great winter for Washington as he gets his body acclimated to the college game. Washington was very light for most big-time tight end prospects coming out of high school, however he falls in that category of body-changers since arriving in Austin. Washington's lower body has progressed further than his upper body at this point. Thus far, I have heard only positive remarks about Washington since arriving. 

OL Brandon Baker – Mater Dei HS (CA)

The sky is the limit here for Baker. Though, the question remains how quickly can he reach that level? There will be a high focus for Baker this spring when it comes to quickness off the snap. In pass protection, Baker has an 83-inch wingspan that will translate to the college game, but the get-off will be what dictates a strong spring in my eyes. Regardless, Baker has long been mentioned as one of the hardest workers in the freshman group this winter.

OL Daniel Cruz – Richland HS (TX)

Texas fans are going to love the demeanor of Daniel Cruz once they get more familiar with him. On the field, I have yet to meet many players or prospects that can flip the switch better than he does. Cruz plays mean and nasty, yet has a tremendous brain between his ears which is the perfect combination for a center. 

The 6-foot-1 defensive back has 26 offers since his recruitment began. Originally from Illinois, there is plenty of ties to the both the Texas area and the Midwest. 

Texas originally offered Reyes back in March of 2023, right around this time a year ago. Reyes and Texas have been rather off and on in communication, however a stop to campus with his 7-on-7 team could help turn this ship around. 

Reyes’ brother is former Texas A&M DB Antonio Johnson — something worth mentioning.

After offering February 20, Kenny Baker and Tashard Choice have maintained contact with the 6-3, 320 pound defensive tackle, and those close to him.  

Baker and Choice have been in contact with Wynn's circle two or three times since offering a source told OnTexasFootball Tuesday morning. Baker is talking with Wynn and family about a potential spring visit date. According to the source, Texas, LSU and Florida are schools that have been mentioned as schools Wynn would like to go see this spring prior to locking in his full June official visit schedule. Mississippi State is also fighting for a spring visit. 

Florida State, Alabama and Georgia remain the three mentioned most with Wynn set to make an unofficial visit to FSU this weekend. The Seminoles are considered the team to beat headed into the spring with the new Alabama staff chipping away. 

The Kevin Wynn File

1. Wynn is 6-3 and around 320. He's currently playing on the varsity basketball team, which begins the playoffs this week. He will go to the track after hoops season concludes. He qualified for for state in the Class 1A shot put and discus as a sophomore. 

2. The February 20 offer was made by defensive line coach Kenny Baker. Running backs coach and area recruiter Tashard Choice has ties to the Greene County coaching staff, but did not have a role in the offer. It was Baker, a Peach State native. Baker also has ties to the Greene County High staff dating back to when Baker was on staff at Mercer. 

3. Wynn released a top 10 in February. That top 10 consisted of Georgia, Florida State, Alabama, LSU, Tennessee, Florida, N.C. State, South Carolina, Michigan and USC. 

4. Wynn made visits during the season to Florida State (twice), Alabama (twice) and January visits to Georgia, N.C. State and North Carolina. He had to cancel visits to Tennessee and Florida. 

5. His No. 1 interest outside of football is culinary. He wants to be a chef one day. His major could well be nutrition (natural sciences). 

6. Wynn enters his senior season with 136 career tackles, including 57 tackles for loss and seven sacks. 

Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorn staff have extended three offers in the 2026 class, though there is the most familiarity with Huhn who will be making his third appearance to campus since his recruitment began.

Huhn received his Texas offer February 15 and will return for the Longhorns' busy visit weekend at the beginning of April.

Milwee and Sarkisian watched Huhn throw in-person in June of 2023 and invited him to the Kansas State game at home in November as well.

It is early, but all indications point to me as Huhn being the guy in the 2026 class at the quarterback position.

The Texas Longhorns are back in the Atlanta area recruiting offensive linemen in the 2025 cycle. 

One of those is OnTexasFootball 4-star offensive tackle Juan Gaston (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake). The "large human" made an unofficial visit to Texas over the summer, and now plans to return for an official visit in June.

OnTexasFootball can confirm a June 14-16 official visit to Texas for the 6-7, 350 pound tackle prospect with 35 offers. 

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and area recruiter Tashard Choice were by Westlake High in January. Gaston has remained in contact with offensive line coach Kyle Flood for nearly a year.

A week after Hightower (Texas) High's Kade Phillips locked in an official visit to Texas June 21-23, the OnTexasFootball 4-star has locked in an unofficial visit in April.

The 6-1.5, 180 pound versatile defensive back with an 80 inch wingspan and 10 inch hands told OnTexasFootball he is scheduled to be in Austin April 6 for the Longhorns big visit weekend around spring practice. 

The visit to Texas will come shortly after Phillips' first ever visit to LSU. Phillips will visit the Tigers March 26 around spring practice, and is scheduled to return to Baton Rouge for an official visit June 14-16. 

Phillips has also locked in a third official visit. The younger brother of former Texas A&M linebacker signee Kenneth Phillips is locked in to visit Texas A&M June 7-9. 

Texas is in a solid position headed into the visits with LSU and Texas A&M seriously in the mix.

Phillips added an offer from Missouri Sunday.

Phillips was offered by safeties coach and area recruiter Blake Gideon February 17. 

"The Texas offer meant a lot to me," Phillips told OnTexasFootball last week at Hightower High. "Texas is a big school, big culture and it meant a lot. It felt great. Coach Gideon came to see me multiple times. He came to track practice, came by the field house multiple times just to talk. Texas is going to be up there. Up there." 

Phillips attended Texas Junior day January 20. He has been on campus multiple times in the last year, including a game visit in 2023.
