Part 1 2022: A dive into Sark's '22 - '24 classes

Recommended Posts

Thank you for taking the time to read the following post of a deep dive into Sark's recruiting classes. In this portion I will share some things that I found interesting from the 2022 class. Enjoy 🙂

According to 247 Texas offered 177 high school recruits throughout the nation, and the following is a list of notable names (that signed elsewhere). Some may recall these names from reading about Texas chances of landing them based on different inside sources, as well as a couple of big times names listed ( a (T) next to the name indicates that the player has transferred from the school he originally signed with).

Anthony Jones (T)

Jarred Kerr

Quick Takeaways from the players listed above:

*Four of the players were at one time committed to Texas (Miller, Stewart, Winfield, and Kerry), while at least  4 - 6 were considered by some to be big losses for Texas (Stewart, Burton, Abor, Bear Alexander, Perkins, and Denver Harris

*Of the 39 players listed, 23 have since transferred from the places that they originally signed with (9 out of 10 at the receiver position and 5 out of 6 of the defensive backs)

*Texas landed 2 of the receivers that they had offered out of high school in the portal (relationships matter)

The following is a list of players that Texas signed in the class

Quarterback

Maalik Murphy (T)

Running Back

Jaydon blue

Some Takeaways from the signees in the class:

*9 out of the 28 were at least committed to another program (no earlier than) in the Spring ( February) Semester of their junior year of high school:

Kelvin Banks Jr. (Oregon)

Terrance Brooks (tOSU)

Jaylon Guilbeaux (TCU)

Ethan Burke (Michigan)

Cameron Williams (Oregon)

BJ Allen (LSU)

X'Avion Brice (Oklahoma)

Savion Red (SMU)

Larry Turner-Gooden (Arizona State)

*12 out of the 28 high school players signed have since transferred out including: 4 out of 5 defensive backs (and 5 out of 6 if you include athlete Brice), 4 out of 8 defensive lineman have transferred out, the only linebacker signee (when it seemed like Texas was in desperate need of linebackers) transferred out, and both of Texas WR signees (in a class where WR recruiting was disappointing) have transferred.

*All 7 offensive lineman signed in the class remain at Texas

*3 out of 7 members of the transfer class completed their eligibility at Texas, while 1 (Ewers) remains

*I've always felt that Diamonte Tucker-Dorsey was an unsung hero in this class. Early reports in the Summer and Fall camps were that he brought a tremendous amount of football knowledge and experience into the Linebacker room, and I believe some of the development and growth in DeMarvion Overshown and Jaylan Ford's games should be credited to DTD being in the room with them.

Please share your thoughts on the info listed, and the volatility of wide receiver and defensive back recruiting.

A much more interesting read than the latest recruiting adventures.  Thank you for putting in the effort to put this together.   The WR, DB and DL transfer rates are really interesting.

What is truly noticeable, despite the transfers, is the significant production from this class...both recruits and transfers.  All remaining have been, are currently, will be starters or very are in the rotation.  Hard to ask for more.  VERY high hit rate with Sark's second class.  Next class will show even better.

Please recall, that we were still either filling holes or stocking our two deep.

GREAT work here!!!!  Very nice and thank you.
