GoHorns1 Posted March 2 Share Posted March 2 AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Track and Field head coach Edrick Floréal was named the Big 12 Women's Indoor Coach of the Year on Thursday, the league announced. Floréal has now been tabbed with the award for the fifth time in his career in his six seasons at Texas. The No. 7 Longhorn women won its 14th Big 12 Indoor title last weekend in Lubbock, scoring 135 points. The women were led by sophomore Dejanea Oakley who scored 20 points for Texas and was named the High Point Performer of the Meet after winning the 400m (51.75), finishing as the runner-up in the 200m (22.86) and helped Texas to a second-place finish in the 4x400 (3:30.08). Ackelia Smith totaled 19 team points, winning the long jump, placing fourth in her season opener in the triple jump and finishing fifth in the 60m dash. Texas championed six total events, including taking the top-three positions in the shot put led by Nina Ndubuisi. Fellow freshman Akala Garrett made it five-straight seasons with a Longhorn win in the 600-yard, while Kristine Blazevica won her sixth Big 12 title (3rd in pentathlon) and Emelia Chatfield won the 60-meter hurdles. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
