Quinncent McManning, Jr. Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Wanted to get some opinions. I thought we were pretty vanilla with the pass rush. Yes we got pressure with the NASCAR package but you don’t get a whole lot of 3rd and longs against a team like Ohio State. Simmons didn’t seem like he was a factor as a 3 down edge. Maybe the osu OL is a lot better than we thought but just shocked how few one on one edge wins there were. Didn’t even notice Spence in the game. 1 tackle? the question is how much of that is scheme? I felt that ultimately that was the plan from PK not to get gouged by the run game and keep everyone back after bracketing Smith. You can only do so much when you have to account for 1 guy. How many times will we need to do the same this year? Spy for Lagway and Reed maybe? I am cautiously optimistic we’ll see good sack numbers this year, but the break the record Simmons sack totals are as crazy as arch for Heisman second question is about the OL. Same can be said about the osu gameplan. Like the lack of sacks on arch… he was certainly pressured but I think some teams will throw blitzes that he hasn’t seen and it may still be a big problem. Just look at how Baker played the last snap of the game. It was ugly. I don’t want to be overly optimistic about the OL at this point. Also still need to prove that we can run inside consistently. Will be interesting to see the Neto versus Stroy grades out of this game. 1 Quote
ThatHornsGuy87 Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Man after talking to my brother last night, that entire game just felt off. Rod even talked about it. That didnt feel like a normal sark called game. It looked amd felt different 1 Quote

It looked amd felt different agreed.. it was like sark realized that patricia was keeping everyone back and with arch's accuracy issues he just kept things very simple and tried to take advantage of the numbers game with runs. not sure i disagree with the overall idea of the plan.. i just didn't like the lack of creativity. WR screen could have been used in the 1st half to get arch going. same with an exotic reverse. arch bears some resonsibility with some of his decisions to be fair.. some of the RPOs like the first 4th down.. he should have pulled and hit a wide open TE. 1 Quote
Forrest J. Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I’m cautious on the pass rush. We’ve really only seen it at a high level from Simmons. I have optimism that Burke will get better and better as the year goes on and he’ll probably end up around the 7-8 sacks mark. But outside of that it’s skepticism for me. Haven’t seen anything from anyone else outside of Vasek that gets me excited about the pass rush this year, and he hasn’t proven that he can stay on the field. I do think the pass rush will improve as this was the first game and against what may be the most talented oline we’ll face, but I’m not convinced that it will be elite or on par with last year’s pass rush. Just too many unknowns. Oline was encouraging to me. The pass pro was really good considering the opponent and hostile environment and the run blocking was decent to really good at times. Unfortunately, without any elite running backs this is what we are going to get in big time matchups. An elite running back would have had well over 100 yards yesterday. Wisner doesn’t have the burst and Baxter’s best asset is picking up blitzes. He’s not the runner we thought he’d be. Can’t wait to see the young guys over the next three weeks. 1 1 Quote
NothinButDaHorns34 Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Pass rush was definitely underwhelming, But i am keeping a level headed mindset (which seems to be very hard for people on here) that it was only game one against a very formidable program. Quote
drag worm Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago (edited) Max protection and only 3 third and longs doesn’t equate to a very robust pass rush in the box score. Other teams won’t need to be so cautious with a new QB the way Ohio State was yesterday and that’s when you’ll start to see our pass rush emerge imo. Edited 1 hour ago by drag worm Quote
