    Thursday afternoon recruiting nuggets

Waxahachie, Texas - OnTexasFootball was on hand at Stuart B. Lumpkins Stadium Wednesday for the prelims of the 6A District 11 track meet, or the District of Doom as called by many.

As expected, a number of top Texas targets in the 2025 class were taking part in the district tack meet.

OTF brings the latest notes and nuggets from the afternoon in Waxahachie.

    Dakorien Moore

The 5-star wide receiver out of Duncanville High will be on campus April 6 with his mother. He is also scheduled to be in Austin April 20 for the Longhorns spring game.

Many expected Moore to be at LSU April 13 for the Tigers spring game, but that is not the case as of Wednesday. He has a OT7 7v7 tournament in Dallas that weekend that he is currently planning to take part in. That means his next visit to LSU would be in June for an OV - subject to change of course.

Moore has his official visit dates set, and will release those on his own timeline. A June 21-23 OV to Texas is expected.

    Elijah Barnes visit schedule

The Dallas Skyline 4-star linebacker will be in Austin April 6 with his mom and dad. The Longhorns enter this weekend in a favorable position.

Barnes will make a number of visits between April 6 and a June 21-23 official visit to Texas. He will be at Texas A&M April 13, Oregon April 20 and Nebraska for an official visit the last weekend in April. Barnes has an Ohio State official visit set up for May 31-June 2, and Texas A&M and Oregon are also possible June OV's.

Barnes FaceTimed with Steve Sarkisian and Johnny Nansen earlier this week.

    Jordan Coleman schedules OU OV

The 6-5, 360 pound offensive tackle from Cedar Hill High will visit Texas this Saturday with brothers Devin Coleman and Isaiah Coleman. OnTexasFootball believes Jordan Coleman and Devin Coleman have committable offers from Texas right now.

The Longhorns enter the spring in a good spot with Oklahoma now entering the equation. Jordan Coleman told OnTexasFootball Wednesday that he has an official visit to Oklahoma locked in.

Coleman's official visit schedule consists of SMU in May, Baylor June 7-9, Oklahoma June 14-16 and Texas June 21-23.

    Keelon Russell

Duncanville High 4-star quarterback Keelon Russell continues to see his recruitment take off, especially with SEC programs. The SMU pledge will make an unofficial visit to Texas A&M April 6, and the Aggies are starting to make a strong push. Russell will attend the Texas Longhorns Spring Game April 20, and has had multiple conversations with area recruiter Jeff Banks. Alabama is also now in regular contact, and a visit is on the table.

Russell has an official visit scheduled to Florida June 7-9.

I know the staff plays the long-game and has most of these guys on OV's in June, however you taking the over or under on 0.5 public commitments in the 2 weeks following this weekend?

There’s sooo many names to keep up with because the staff is still evaluating that i don’t pay attention to recruiting much until the season starts when they are locked with on their targets. Like i didn’t even realize that we had moved on from recruiting landon rink until i seen a little social media post of him committing to texas a&m of all places with a longhorn father.

If Texas schedules a OV should give us a idea of priorities especially after the May evaluation period.

Correct … and you have guys such as Dakorien Moore, Jordon Davison and Jonah Williams that will release OV dates shortly

Sorry for the tangent, but I have a general recruiting question. When looking at the recruiting calendar what is considered an early/late offer these days?

    Is it as simple as:

offer during sophomore season or before = early

offer during jr season throughout the summer = normal/average

offer during senior season = late

Or is there a more nuanced answer?

I would say that is correct for 70% of prospects ... obviously there are a % of high-end prospects that are on the radar earlier and get offered as a sophomore - that wouldn't be really early because of their talent level

Seems like Russell wants to be a Horn, but wonder if we'll wait too long.  He's getting a lot of strong offers.  Entering the 2025 season we'll have at most 2 returning scholarship QBs, makes sense for this class to have 2 QBs.

Gerry, whatever happened with Marcus Harris out of Mater Dei? He was a Texas lean at one point wasn’t he? Don’t hear much about him anymore….

Still has the June 21-23 OV ... I personally like some others more. So much in state high-end talent at WR in 2025.

I’d be fine trying to lockdown Kelshaun and Lockett, and keeping a spot open for either Moore or Ffrench and not reaching for anyone else.

How much will C. Simmons be able to influence DK Moore moving forward in the recruiting process or would it be a J Cook type that would move the needle?

It will be overblown in coverage of Moore ... DK Moore is making an independent decision, as did Simmons
