Sure, but you can point out other issues with every other QB. Dart comes from a super scheme-friendly system; he's a terrible decision-maker when the first read isn't open, and he's not as accurate as you'd like for a QB that is so scheme-reliant. He doesn't showcase an ability to process beyond pre-snap reads; he's not great with anticipation or touch. I can do something similar with Shough, Gabriel, Howard, McCord, and everyone else. None of these guys have elite tape. Atleast with Ewers, the stuff in t-shirts and shorts looks nice.

The issue is that you can say the part about film for most of this QB class. Dart didn't show any ability to throw with anticipation or be a good decision-maker when the first read wasn't schemed open. Howard didn't showcase elite arm talent, despite his obvious propensity to go through reads. Milroe doesn't do a good job understanding underneath coverage or playing on time. When that's the case, the combine and throwing drills can be valuable.

There isn't many of those guys with great measurables and great tape. Hunter is the only real one. McMillian's got great size, but the speed is concerning, and the tape clearly shows an unrefined route runner who didn't create as much seperation against man. Egbuka isn't an explosive athlete, but a great route runner. Burden, didn't have a great year, and is probably limited to a being a slot or Z at the next level. Those are the only three that most people would take over Golden, and they all have questions. Atleast with Golden, you know he's a good route runner with great hands and juice to get YAC. As long as he runs a decent 40, there's no reason for him not to be in the discussion for WR2/3.

Nailed it. It's an elite arm; there is elite juice, and he doesn't need to throw very hard for the ball to go a long way with good velocity. He's mobile enough for it to be a factor at the next level. He's not going to be a guy who gets designed runs, but he can extend plays and create yards with his legs, although he isn't really an east and west scrambler – something he'll probably work on more this off-season. I'm not a stats guy, but I am a film guy, and do have access to the coaches copy. When you watch the All-22, you get a clear picture: the Penn State receivers do not create separation, and Allar is asked to make very tight window throws.

I'll go 38-13. I just don't trust that offensive line to match up against the Texas D-Line, and vice versa. They don't have a QB like Klubnik either, so I don't expect a close game.

Correct, what I was referring to with "not a big deal" was the stepping-in. That's not a huge deal. The front foot thing is something I've documented before (not here, but when talking about QB play), and that's a huge deal because it directly impacts your hips and core.

About the feet thing. That's not really the end of the world. Quinn's a rotational thrower, and you'll often notice that guys open up their body as they get into their motion. Rarely do rotational throwers "step in" to their throws, because you're using their hips and core to put velo on balls, not really ground striking. The issue is moreso that Quinn's opened to the middle up the field, and not open to the pylon, like he should be. Even in the Arch play, you'll note that Arch's front foot doesn't move much; it's very slight, but his body is open to the back pylon, which is what should happen. You're correct about the Moore route, which is what I noted.

It's a perfect ball, and again, something that Sark should have called more. Georgia immediately after Golden beat them twice vertically, started playing guys with outside leverage, and I was disappointed there weren't more slants ran because the leverage was there. Now, I do get that Georgia had hook defenders at times, but the number of times Texas ran crossers or hooks that took them away meant that slants should and would have been very effective (see Bolden's 20-yard catch through a slant). 1st & 10 at UGA 14 (OT) Quinn Ewers pass incomplete to Matthew Golden Again, I can't understand running a corner route against outside leverage. Georgia's corners kept doing this, and it made no sense to call a corner route against it. Georgia was in clamp coverage, which means that their #1 corner is taking outside leverage against Golden and playing man, because he has bracket help inside from the safety who's playing a deep quarter. The only thing you can say about this play is that Quinn should have checked it down because Wisner has a ton of space. Bad route concept and bad decision. 2nd & 10 at UGA 14 (OT) Quinn Ewers pass incomplete to DeAndre Moore Jr. I hated this concept. Ran two crossers and a slant over the middle of the field, and then a slot fade to the field, when you're asking Ewers to throw it basically from the far hash. It's not a great throw because it actually takes Moore from the back pylon back to the front pylon, but again, it's a low % play. Even if Ewers gets to the other read, Golden is being stacked on top because Helm is running basically on the same level, meaning there are two defenders there, and Wingo is running into the space. Now, if the play develops, maybe Golden or Helm is open, but it's a poorly executed levels concept because Helm is 2 yards behind Golden. 3rd & 10 at UGA 14 (OT) Timeout Texas, clock 00:00 3rd & 10 at UGA 14 (OT) Quinn Ewers pass complete to Quintrevion Wisner for a loss of 1 yard to the UGA 15 Again, I don't understand running this route. All game Georgia had shown they were tackling really well in space. Running this with Wisner made no sense; he's not an elusive guy. Ewers could have made a play or two, and that would have made the difference, but I put much more blame on really poor playcalling. Running routes into bad leverage, and low % plays before bashing your head into a wall is what I would Sark was doing, and that's not putting Ewers in a position to win the game. Georgia only plays three coverages in the red zone, MOD, CLAMP, and 4 man, and all of them have the outside corners effectively playing outside leverage man, which means run inside routes with #1 receivers are open. Texas did almost none of this in the red zone, and that's on Sark.

We barely run inside zone; we're a counter, wide zone, and outside zone team. That's a good thing because A&M stunts and slants A LOT on run plays, and stunts and slants can destroy inside zone. It's why Ole Miss had so much success against Georgia. Wide zone kills stunts and slants, which is what we run, and have become really good at.

They were really explosive. They went 5/8 past 20 yards in the passing game for 213 yards. Texas will not do that with Ewers at quarterback. Auburn successfully ran it on the right side of the line, not so much on the left side. Texas has had a lot of success running it to the left recently, so it's strength vs strength there. I don't think much of what Auburn did fits what Texas does, but schematically, I'm sure Sark can find some holes to exploit

I finished my first watch of the Sky Cast of the Aggie LSU game, particularly the second half. Notes I had: - One thing I noticed is that they do a bunch of simulated pressures on third downs, and they almost always disguise coverage when they sim. - They show cover 2 man pre-snap a lot and run a lot of cover 2 man. - It looks like they run a lot of match concepts - Most of the time when they ran a simulated pressure, it came out of cover 1, and they went with man on the backend - Their secondary isn't great, but they trust their pass rush to get there before the secondary can get beat.-

Yep, there was no need to keep Quinn in, when the only thing that could have happened is he puts more stress and pressure on that ankle, and gets hurt even more.

The issue is Moore doesn't have his head turned yet, so you can't throw it with the safety right over the top of Moore. With the sky cam, you can see when Moore does turn his head around; if Quinn pumps the Wingo route, Moore has so much space that if he got the ball, he would easily score. The hook defender immediately darts to Wingo the second. It looks like Ewers is going to throw it, so Moore was going to be open when he turned his head.

I agree; I don't buy injuries; if they impact your play that much, don't be out there. I wonder if putting Quinn out there, after 3 weeks of not playing, against back-to-back elite defenses impacted his play. Perhaps playing poorly against Oklahoma led to some confidence issues against UGA (that part was certain; even when guys were open, he wasn't throwing to them), and it spiraled. I'm not saying that's what happened, but food for thought maybe

This is a totally fair criticism of Quinn, but I want to point out that for a really long time, this was a criticism of CJ Stroud. Now, I'm not trying to compare the two because CJ is a monster, but for most of his college career, the question was what he could do out of the structure when teams could pressure him. It wasn't until the Georgia game that he took over and made huge plays with his legs. I think it's not unreasonable to say that Quinn could do the same. We've seen him have big plays with his legs (Baylor last year, Kansas last year, he made some plays with his legs against Michigan). For me, it's just, coming down the stretch, can he elevate his play to include all of the different skills he may possess?

I'm not so sure I agree. Arch clearly doesn't understand the playbook at the level Quinn does, and that's a massive disadvantage for a Sark offense that uses motions and pre-snap stuff to set up plays. We don't run really simple plays, but we make them look so complicated because of the pre-snap stuff, and without that, we're a lot easier to defend. Also, Arch has missed reads, forced balls into tough spots, and hasn't played a defense of A&M's caliber. Putting him in that environment in what would probably be his 5th start by then sounds like a disaster. Arch may help with his ability to escape the pocket, but there are other ways to neutralize the pass rush.

Ewers is not Sellers, but I don't think we need that. Just a week ago, Nuss threw for 400 yards on them. We can have a lot of success with a pocket passer. If we can establish the run and keep Quinn mostly clean, we will be fine. Their secondary is nothing special, and I have a lot of confidence in that matchup. A&M will certainly get pressure on Ewers, but you don't need a mobile passer to beat them. I don't think that game would have been competitive if Nuss hadn't thrown the first terrible interception.

The issue with the Georgia game is exactly as you mentioned: Ewers wasn't throwing it to open guys down the field. Because we couldn't run the ball and they were tackling in space, we needed Ewers to be willing to attack the middle of the game and be aggressive. Against Vandy, there's no need to force the issue down the field when they consistently gave you the short game, and it worked. This ADOT stuff is worthless anyway. Ewers had an ADOT of 6.1 against Michigan, and he was excellent. If we want to criticize based on ADOT, the actual criticism is that Ewers isn't hitting the open guys over the middle enough.

Quinn didn't miss reads and wasn't poor in the pocket on Saturday. I would not attribute any of the sacks to Quinn holding the ball and missing a read. You could say that about the Georgia game, not this Vandy game. What killed the second half was that we had so many penalties on offense.

I do believe that the Moore TD was an audible by Quinn, so he definitely does do it.
