Great points. 1. First time for all four D-line as starters, so hopefully we improve our run D before that game. As for abandoning the run, I did not see Texas do that until they were down 14. I think we were happy to play everything in front and not give up a big play. Penn State will be a problem, I also see a lot of growth for us on the offensive side of the ball leading into that game. Yes, in my opinion Texas run D is that good!!!

Patricia is not a defensive god, but the scheme was effective and he has the players to execute it.

Agree Ohio State starting field position dictated a lot of the conservative play calling as well. Texas pinned us deep in our own territory many times. This is being discussed on eleven warriors see below for starting field positions for each team.. Here's the breakdown - *OSU TD drive, ** Texas TD drive First Quarter: Ohio State (42, 8); Texas (25, 49, 25) Second Quarter: Ohio State (20*, 2, 3); Texas (25, 47) Third Quarter: Ohio State (25, 1); Texas (29, 50) Fourth Quarter: Ohio State (32*, 9, 25, 47-EOG); Texas (15; 40**; 15) Looking into those stats a little deeper, three of Ohio State's first five drives started inside their own 10 yard line, two being inside the 5! The second half was pretty much the same, with two of the first four drives starting inside the 10. It's difficult to get into any kind of rhythm when your backs are against your own goal line.

Agree the run blocking was not there. Not sure we will see another front 4 as stout as Texas but something OSU needs to work on. I was pleased with the pass pro they kept Sayin clean all day.
-
Glad to hear it, hope the fans were hospitable and not arseholes. Look forward to heading to Austin in a year.

Patricia is an NFL guy, He will change the look week to week based on what type of offense he is facing. Plus I think he knows a thing or two about changing tendency so as to not be predictable.

As a Buckeye I will give my 2 cents. No I did not feel great about our offense, I do understand we called a very vanilla game plan for a first time starter to minimize the chances to turn the ball over. 1. Running game was less then desirable. 2. Passing game was anemic. 3. Texas is most likely the best defense we see all season. With that said, defense is always ahead of the offense this time of year. OSU has a couple cupcakes the next two weeks before we travel to Washington so I expect us to open it up quite a bit and give the Freshman QB some confidence that will come in handy for the late season push vs Illinois, Penn State & Michigan. Good luck to the Long Horns, Arch will be fine poor kid was being way over hyped, I can not imagine a tougher scenario Opponent and venue wise for any QB's first start then what he had.. He will end up being a great player.

Agree Sayin did not light the world on fire. 13-20 for 126 is not an impressive stat line. He did have 3 obvious drops and threw a couple away on purpose. The 40 yard TD to Tate was maybe his worst throw of the day, with that said I wont call it a fluke, I will call it an underthrown ball and a helluva play by Tate who is an outstanding athlete and that catch took athleticism, effort and concentration. Maybe only makes that catch 30-40% of the time. Sayin did get all of his passengers on the bus home safely. Look forward to his development and he will get to let it rip the next 2-3 weeks and gain some confidence.

Correct. 100 of Arch's passing yards came in the 4th qtr when they were down 14-0. With that said still not sure either team is championship caliber yet, but they both have top 5 defenses in the country. Lets see what Texas does vs Florida & Georgia and what we do vs Illinois, Penn State & Michigan
-
As a Buckeye fan I will admit it was a close game. I also felt Ohio State was in control the majority of the game. Texas first score in the game was with 3:28 remaining in the 4th qtr and OSU was up 14-0 at that point. Patricia and the defense were not blitzing nearly as much and keeping everything in front of them and trying to limit any big plays. The yardage does not tell the story of the game. Neither does any "If's" Hell Sayin missed seeing a wide open Smith for n EZ TD- I dont count that as a what if, it is a rookie mistake Come the 4th qtr once up by 14 we were keeping the ball on the ground to chew clock. Now I did get concerned when Texas was at Mid field with a minute or so left. To early to say if either team is a top 3 team, but I believe both teams will look much different come play off time. Like Texas, OSU has a couple cup cakes to get our offense to gel and build some confidence for our young QB. Good luck the rest of the way to the Long Horns. Maybe we see each other again Dec/Jan. My concerns for each team. OSU Running game. Texas WR room.

Urban Meyer and Joel Klatt talk Texas at Ohio State
Ironmanz35 replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Time for the Nebraska's USC, UCLA, Wisconsin's and Iowa's to step up. Two are obviously new to the Big Ten but have been down in recent years. -
In all fairness to Arch you are correct, his grandpa Arch Sr. even said the same thing and also agreed with Steve Spurrier to cool the Hype. Spurrier point was if Arch was the second coming a Heisman leader and 1st round draft pick, then why didn't he start over Ewers last year who was only a 7th round draft pick. I think Arch is pretty level headed and will be a helluva a football player and will be rooting for his success. Now as a Buckeye fan I hope he struggles this Saturday.

I agree that the Big Ten has not had much success compared to the SEC and or head to head vs the SEC. OSU has won 3 Championships since 2000. We "OSU" have had the talent to be in the conversation and a NC title contender numerous times but many years we underperformed or were overhyped. The SEC currently has more depth of quality teams than the Big Ten. The Big Ten top 3-4 can compete and sometimes you get a surprise team that is pretty good. Maybe Illinois this year. I was not sold on Indiana last year and especially this year. I bleed Scarlet and Gray but appreciate watching good college football. Good luck Saturday in the shoe, but hoping you go home with an "L" -
Dave Portnoy in Burnt Orange this Saturday?

Funny Stuff. As a Buckeye fan I enjoy the ribbing and humor. Remember though us Yankees won the civil war and the Buckeyes won the last battle vs Texas. Rubber Match 8/30/25 -

Fake news. Portnoy doing his same shtick throwing shade at OSU. Fox is not having him as part of the in stadium game day crew https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/article/the-truth-behind-dave-portnoys-ohio-state-ban--the-new-sec-conference-game-schedule-205559513.html -
OTF Premium Ohio State HC Ryan Day Press Conference (Tuesday)

Burke was Ok by OSU standards. (We have been spoiled with some really good DB's) Burke was prone to getting burnt deep and blowing coverages, he never lived up to the hype. He was by far the worst DB on the field for us last year. With that said he did make the Arizona Cardinals final 53 man roster. -

Have never been high on Burke. I Like Matthews and would really like to see what Scott can do. Anyway I am ok with a 5 Star backing up a 5 star, it does give me confidence in our corners. -

1. Knowles liked us playing press man and Downs roamed high at FS and helped on ball.. 2. The score was 34-8 at half did not need to put a safety over Stewart. or anyone. -

You are correct experience wise. Talent wise on paper we look to be OK with the new starters but how does that translate to a live game. D-Line is much easier to have ready week one than an O-line. I will be interested to see Patricia schemes. Fall camp has repped everything form 5-2 to 4-3 to Nickel. One X Factor on D is Downs, he reminds me 100% of Troy Polamalu the dude's Football IQ is through the roof and his athleticism off the charts. He is a game changer and disrupter from so many different spots on the field. He may be at FS, SS, Nickel may walk him up at LB and blitz him. He is the unquestioned leader of the D and another coach on the field. I am confidant he will make the correct pre snap reads and make the calls to get our guys lined up right. The question is how well do so many unproven new starters execute. -

My opinion only based on what is returning for both Teams and caliber of new starters. QB-Advantage Texas RB-Advantage Texas WR-Advantage OSU O-Line advantage OSU TE- Even (slight lean Texas) D-Line-Advantage Texas LB- Even (slight lean Texas) DB’s Advantage OSU Special Teams- Even -

No one. Eleven Warriors like Loving buckeye mentioned is a good source , both articles and forum space are decent. Still mostly a homers perspective but overall good content. -

1. I agree and like the mentality. Frankly I would like OSU to do that with Sayin and our WR's to start the game. If you are going to make a mistake make it early.... If Sayin is slinging it around moving chains and leads a scoring opening drive the confidence goes through the roof. -

Frankly not impressed with him. I know he had some injury issues last year he did not disclose to the coaches and it really showed up in a couple games with his kick offs and FG attempts He was solid in the playoffs, but a 40+ yarder to win the game. I am closing my eyes and praying. -

I am also worried about this game as is Buckeye Nation. Frankly pounding the rock inside may be a recipe for success against us.. Our D-Line is new, they have experience but this will be their first year as starters. The matchups in this game are going to be fun to watch, if it is a tight one as I expect it to be, who make the better adjustments at half. We have both a new OC & DC. -

Good Point. Frankly I think both Coaches would have preferred this to be a week 2-3 match up, but it is what it is.
