5-star LB Tyler Atkinson post visit update The Grayson (Ga.) High 2026 5-star linebacker had a tremendous visit to Texas the last two days. Atkinson spent a considerable amount of 1-on-1 time with Johnny Nansen despite Texas having a huge game. Atkinson, 6-3 and 210, also spent time talking with Longhorn legend Derrick Johnson. They talked about being a moveable chess piece at the LB position, and how he could do that at Texas. Atkinson and family told OTF that they were impressed with the Texas defense. The fight Texas showed impressed. The city of Austin also has a real appeal for the Atlanta area 5-star in 2026. OTF expects Atkinson to come back for a visit in January or the spring, and a June OV. On the Georgia side, the Bulldogs are telling him that he will be used exactly like Jalon Walker.

A source tells me the initial diagnosis on DB Andrew Mukuba indicates just a sprain. We will hear from HC Steve Sarkisian on Monday, but this is great news for Texas and the DB room after losing DB Derek Williams for the year last week.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is on the podium for the postgame press conference following the Georgia victory over Texas in Austin. Lots to follow with notes and quotes in the comments below. Texas heads to Nashville next week to play Vanderbilt.

It has been mentioned here on OTF throughout the week, but has reached Matt Zenitz at ESPN. Georgia All-American RG Tate Ratledge will go through warmups dressed out but probability to see the field remains slim.

OTF currently expects two 2025 prospects committed elsewhere to be at the game tonight.

Former Texas RB Jonathon Brooks is being designated to make his NFL Debut for the Carolina Panthers. Brooks suffered a torn ACL last year against TCU and has been waiting for his return to the field since then. Now, Brooks is able to return to practice for the first time as a pro.

Peach State 4-star to know Texas is in contact and targeting 2026 4-star++ WR Aaron Gregory (Douglasville, Ga./Douglas County). Gregory told OTF tonight that he won't be in Austin this weekend, but Texas is working to get him to campus. He wants to get on campus. Gregory, 6-1.5 and 175-pounds, has 45 offers. I wanted to provide an update at the Points Per Drive chart for SEC teams through week seven. Of course, Texas and Georgia headline the weekend's slate, but Tennessee and Alabama provide a heck of a ballgame to look forward to as well. Some key takeaways: – Oklahoma has the worst offense in the SEC. – Miss State has a bottom five offense in the conference and just dropped 31 on Georgia in Athens. – Tennessee and Alabama have dramatically come back down to earth in this graphic. – Starting to see true tiers start to take form. Texas up top, then Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss in the next tier and Georgia, LSU, and Missouri shortly behind. – Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas A&M are all going to be very tough games for the Longhorns.

For the second consecutive game, Texas LT Kelvin Banks has been named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week. Banks was dominant against Oklahoma, not allowing a single pressure the entire afternoon. This marks the fourth time this season a Texas offensive lineman has been named the conference’s top lineman for a given week. Joe Moore Award loading.

A quick update on some injuries suffer against Oklahoma in Dallas. *** – Steve Sarkisian announced the end of the season for DB Derek Williams due to an injury suffered on the opening kickoff of the second half. Williams was in obvious pain and was on crutches after the game with a heavy wrap on his knee. Surgery will occur in a week or two. My best guess is a ligament injury, most likely ACL, but that is not confirmed at the moment. – As for WR Isaiah Bond, the Texas WR was in a boot up until at least Monday evening. Sarkisian mentioned postgame he was knicked with an ankle and was unable to go in the second half. The week of practice will be crucial for his availability on Saturday against Georgia, but Sarkisian mentioned having more optimism than originally expected on Monday during his press conference. *** Jake Majors got twisted up on a play where a lesser athlete probably loses his season but was able to remain in the game and appeared to be just fine Monday during his player availability.

Both practice and recruiting are in full swing for Texas Baseball and it’s going well on both fronts. I spoke with a couple of sources regarding where things stand with the Horns. - First, let’s start with recruiting. Yesterday the Longhorns landed the No. 1 pitcher in the nation for 2026, after Trey Rangel (The Colony HS) chose Texas over A&M, Oklahoma State and others. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting Rangel to commit to Texas. This staff has hosted a ton of recruits over the last few weeks and he was toward the bottom of my list when it came to guys to keep a close eye on. That changed on Wednesday, when sources close to Rangel’s recruitment told me he fell in love with Texas on his visit and would be pulling the trigger quickly. It’s also worth noting that Rangel visited A&M after Texas, but it didn’t sway him. Many of you have asked if he would end up on campus. The answer is yes. I expect him to, this staff expects him to. Yes, he’s the No. 1 pitcher, but Rangel is on the smaller side and that will work against him in the MLB Draft. This staff also isn’t going to go all at for a kid that they don’t believe they have a great shot at getting to stay on the Forty Acres. (That’s also a reason you aren’t seeing them pursue Javorski Lane Jr. heavily). *** We’ve talked in the past about the role that Schloss had when it came to landing elite safety Jonah Williams. I’m not going to go in depth on that, but what I can tell you is that Texas expects him to begin practicing with them in just a few months. I’m told the relationship between the football and baseball staffs are excellent and that both are very supportive in making sure Jonah succeeds in both sports. Sark has basically given the green light for Jonah to be all in on baseball this spring while still working with the football team. Williams will start out at pitcher for the Longhorns for the short term. He’s also an outstanding outfielder, so there’s a chance he could play there down the road. *** Here are some quick hitters on fall practice: - Arizona State transfer Ethan Mendoza has looked great at 2nd base. That’s his spot to lose. I expect him to start there this year, but Mendoza would like to possibly play shortstop in the future. - Third base has yet to be settled. Right now it’s a two man race between sophomore Casey Borba and true freshman Adrian Rodriguez. I think it’s too close to tell right now who will start. - Louisiana Monroe transfer Easton Winfield has been described as the “real deal” and Texas loves him. He will be an impact player for the Horns this upcoming season and will start at left field. - Pitching is hard to report on. A lot of those guys pitched a ton this summer, so they’re trying to rest them right now. A lot of arms aren’t throwing at this time. - LSU RHP transfer Aiden Moffett’s issues in the past have been control. He has one hell of an arm, but the control was an area of concern. I’m told he’s definitely improving there, however, and that if he continues with the trajectory he’s on, he will be of major help this season. - Both Ole Miss transfer Grayson Saunier and South Carolina transfer Connor McCreery are expected to contribute this season as well.

Stopped by Lovejoy to see newest Texas commit Daylan McCutcheon in action this morning. McCutcheon looks as smooth as any WR you will find in the state of Texas in his routes. I would argue he would contest any Longhorn in a route competition the moment he steps foot on campus in January for that title as well. McCutcheon is back in Austin this weekend for the Georgia game, his second time on campus in a month (he visited for Miss State). There will be a little snippet with McCutcheon talking his commitment on the recruiting breakdown tomorrow as well. But McCutcheon did say it was an accumulation of Texas succeeding, Texas wanting him and Florida State not living up to what expectations in what he called a leap of faith he took when he committed.

At the end of the day, the Texas Longhorns are 6–0 and the No. 1 team in the country. Penn State deserves some credit for their comeback win on the road yesterday. – Ohio State over Georgia feels pretty safe to me. Georgia allowing 31 points to Miss State is gross. – I am not a believer in Miami and won't be a believer in Miami this year. Clemson is the team to beat in the ACC. – Alabama and Tennessee drop a bit for me even after wins. Both teams look very beatable. – Welcome back LSU! Maybe I was completely wrong on them. – College Football needs Ashton Jeanty in the Playoff.

Four-star WR Daylan McCutcheon has officially flipped his commitment to Texas from FSU.

OnTexasFootball is on the road in DFW this week seeing a number of top prospects. After a couple of stops Tuesday, there are three stops planned today. Mansfield High The first stop was Mansfield High 2026 4-star WR Zion Robinson. The 6-4, 185-pound WR put on a show at Texas Elite Camp June 1 earning an offer. Chris Jackson remains in contact with Robinson. He’s a maybe to make a Texas game this season. He’s been on campus at Texas A&M, TCU and OU already this season. His father is the head track and field coach at TCU. This will be a true academic/athletic combination recruitment.

Today marks the first SEC matchup for Texas as a conference member, which is big in its own right. Both @Gerry Hamilton and @CJ Vogel have you covered on the football recruiting front, as Sark and Co. will host prospects this weekend. They aren’t the only ones, however, as both the baseball and women’s basketball staff will use today to their advantage. Baseball: - Texas will host six recruits again this weekend. They’ve hosted a combined 13 over the previous two games, which went very well, and today will be no different. - Don’t be surprised if this results in more commitments after the visit. - Last weekend Schloss and staff hosted 7 total recruits. They already reeled in multiple commitments from that and I’m told they aren’t done with that group yet. The coaches feel really good about where things stand with a handful of those guys. - The entire baseball staff is putting in extra hours between practice and recruiting. It’s basically full throttle right now for everyone, from the head coach all the way down to the support staff. - On a related note, I’m told fall practice is going really well. Women’s Basketball: - By now everyone knows that the nation’s No. 1 recruit, Aaliyah Chavez, is on campus. I’m told that the visit is going GREAT. This isn’t just from the Texas side of things either. A source, who has no irons in the (recruiting) fire, said the Horns are knocking it out of the park. - Chavez’s visit continues today and she will take in the Texas vs. Mississippi State game later this afternoon.

2026 Waco Connally DB Jamarion Vincent will be at the Texas-Georgia game he tells OTF. Why is this significant? Well, it will be the third game of the season Vincent will have made the trip to Austin for and the fourth time since the end of July he has been on campus after he attended the Pool Bash. Texas is in great standing early on, though at the moment, I am not expecting a decision imminent.
