Agree. The goal is to make the playoffs, not to have the toughest regular season schedule. -

I hear you. But my point is assuming Texas was gonna win the natty knowing what was being replaced is just unrealistic in my eyes . I expected to at least be in the final 4, maybe even get to the title game. But Ohio st was always the team to beat and have shown no reason to think otherwise -

Not necessarily. I would like them to go back to the BCS formula. The BCS formula was explicitly designed to incorporate strength of schedule (SOS) as a key component alongside human polls and a penalty for each loss. "Quality Wins" Bonus: Later iterations of the formula added a bonus for beating top-15 teams, further rewarding teams that challenged themselves. Mitigating Penalties: Playing a hard schedule meant that a loss against a "team of substance" was not punished as severely as a loss to a weak team. Strength of Schedule Component: Teams were ranked 1 through 115 (at the time) based on the winning percentages of their opponents and their opponents' opponents. A team's rank in this category contributed to their overall BCS score (lower score was better, like golf). Key Example: 2007 LSU Tigers The 2007 college football season is the most famous instance where the traditional emphasis on an unblemished record was overturned by the BCS system's flexibility. LSU's Record: LSU finished the regular season with two losses. The Outcome: The Tigers were selected to play for the national championship and ultimately won the BCS National Championship, the first and only two-loss team ever to do so in the BCS era. -
This is preseason. Don’t move the goal posts Did Kirby or Day have “development” years in year 5.

As long as there has been CFB, your win loss record is what counts first and foremost, not strength of schedule. Then, with all things being equal, whose name is the most famous moves to the front of the line such as Notre Dame first, Ohio State second, then perhaps Bama. There is a pecking order. But strength of schedule means very little. Check out BYU’s national championship or Georgia Tech’s UPI’s 91 NC vs Colorado’s, even the coaches leaned toward GT win-loss record vs CU playing a greatb non-conference schedule. 1st -

Find me one mod on this site that predicted Texas to win the national title this season. If you expected a natty after Florida, or really even after the non conference schedule performances, you have unrealistic expectations. -

It would be a smart and a strong message to the selection committee and TV execs. Rewarding teams for playing weak non conference schedules is not smart. We either do the same or be considered idiots. -
Everyone expected a natty

You might have expected a natty, not much of anybody else here did. Now I expected the playoffs no doubt. But natty? That’s 2026. -

I'd rather Texas be weak and timid according to folks if it means Texas is in the playoffs. -
What’s weak is not seeing the situation for what it is and adapting. Stupidity is a weakness and it’s stupid to schedule games with only downside and no real upside
-
Bobby I understand this sentiment but we have zero nattys in the Big 3 since 2005. We have one natty in 50 years. We have more resources than anyone. This season was a waste. Yes we saw development but let’s be real we expected a natty. Do you think Kirby, Saban, Day had “development” years in year 5. They win natties. You don’t have those at this stage.

That’s weak! -
Agree. If the true strength of schedule isn’t going to factor into equation, get rid of the game.

We beat Ohio state we are 10-2 and in We Beat Appalachian State instead and we are 10-2 and in. Winning these games matters zero and losing them matters too much

For me, it wasn't that long ago we'd have been begging for a 9-3 season in the Sorry Big 12. We've more than held our own in the best league. It's not the result we wanted, but this team played it's heart out. And with the OL we had and no burner at WR, I think this team came pretty close to maximizing. True, we could have beaten OSU and should have beaten Florida, but still, they played their hearts off -
No it’s smart. Not weak or timid.
-
No question we should cancel Ohio state and Michigan and the two notre dame games after that. Zero reason to do those games. We don’t get to play Purdue, Minnesota, Rutgers, Maryland etc.. in conference play. We play 4-5 truly tough games a year while big 10 is unlucky to play 2-3. Zero reason to play those games. Winning them doesn’t help you with 12 team playoff and losing them could kill you and makes your margin of error extremely thin.

At this point, another 10 win season with how this season started is a win in my book. This team ought to be hungrier than ever next season if and when they get shafted in the bracket. Maybe that lights the fire under sarks ass that’s needed. Team could’ve sputtered and easily been a 5-6 loss team this season. And at least that won’t be happening -
It wasn't a waste at all. They did NOT underperform. Instead, we as a fan base overrated them. We lost the following to the NFL: 4 starting offensive lineman. our starting tight end, our best receiver and.......oh yea, our starting QB. We should never have expected a CFP appearance. We should be happy we got as close as we did. I'm impressed with this team. We are a couple of inside offensive lineman away from a top 5ish team next year. What more could we ask for?

I support cancelling it if we don't make the playoff. At the end of the day have to send a message that what the committee is doing is idiotic. I'm holding out hope that it won't go down that way, though. If you look at it like they do in CBB we have a very good resume with three really strong wins. -

The wins in Dallas and last night are better than any non natty CFP win imo. We already hit some major goals this year. The Florida loss cooked us in the CFP but now we can focus on building this roster around Arch for next year. Ohio State in Austin looms just 9 months away. Let’s fix our OL and get some serious difference makers around Arch so we’re not hitting 100+ national rankings of ineptitude on offense next season. -

We beat our 3 rivals. We know how to win close games on the road in the SEC. Success, success. Now we just need to get over the hump and beat the elite teams. I think Arch is on a trajectory to be able to do that. We need some better line play, and we need to hit on some RB prospects that bring back the run game. The only thing that disappoints is I feel like our coaching could get a little better schematically. Offense and defense . Sark is amazing at getting recruits and building a culture, just need to be a little better at formulating an advantageous gameplan against elite teams. A lot to ask, but not at Texas where we “expect to be in the conversation for championships.” Sarks words not mine.
