I wanted to answer these three together, as they all sorta tie in. I don't see an impact guy next year, at least not offensively. I would be surprised if there is an A-Rod level contributor next season from one of these freshmen. That's not to say that they're not talented, because they are. This is a solid class for sure. It's just that Texas is much deeper than they were a season ago, along with some portal players who have an opportunity to shine. As far as pitching goes, that's so tough. NO ONE, not even the coaches, knew what they had in Volantis. It's sort of an unfair comparison. I can promise you that the staff didn't even think he'd be what he ended up being before he began or even through the early part of the season. If I had to pick a pitcher, I would say Cozart is definitely the safe pick. He's the most ready. Will he be Volantis 2.0? I seriously doubt it. I'm not even sure Cozart is the most talented freshman pitcher on the roster, but again, he's the most ready out of the bunch to throw in a game. It's also important that a couple of these guys may carve out a role earlier than others, but that doesn't necessarily mean they're the most talented or the best of the group. Cozart fits that to a T, imo. And that's not a knock on him by any means.... He's a high floor guy with a ton of talent.

Thoughts on the AP All-time All-American team ?
Philip Barber replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Anyone who watched Tony Dorsett play might make an argument for him. Though no one would want to agree O.J. Simpson was awesome at USC. His run against UCLA in 1967 during the fourth quarter was one of the best plays I have ever seen. -

Yep. I've seen a few articles that say they haven't settled on OL positions yet. -
Rule Changes Officially Approved for 2025 Season
closetojumping replied to Bevo92's topic in On Texas Football Forum
The change in question is in regard to letting FCS (Football Championship Subdivision) teams have the helmet communications. That rule will help Illinois State against OU in a few weeks, preventing Brent Venables from a last bastion of space for him to steal sideline signals. -
I'll go ahead and get this one out of the way. Four commits went the MLB route. Kayson Cunningham - Elite SS. Would have started for Texas at the position as a HS senior. Seriously. He's that good. There was about a 20% chance he was coming to Texas at best and it would have been HUGE if he did. Gavin Fien - Elite 3B. Texas knew this would be a battle as well. His odds were a little higher of getting on campus, but not much. Xavier Mitchell - LHP, 13th round. Texas for sure had a shot here, but he also got paid a nice little chunk of change. Grayson Boles - RHP, 18th round. Boles was a national top 150 kid, but I didn't expect him to go. Really good command, but needs work. I think it's worth noting that they feel good about where they are and it's important to remember that this is still somewhat of a transition class. Some of this class was Pierce guys. Schloss first true class is 2026. There were only two players they really put up a fight for and both were elite guys.... unfortunately they lost both.

Biggest impact? 1. Texas defense. Should be the best unit on the field matched up against a young qb in his first game in a new system. I’ll be shocked if Ohio State scores in the 20s or higher. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see a defensive score. 2. Turnovers. This could negate #1. Texas needs to hold on to the ball - Today

We have the better QB, defense, and coach. I like our odds. also looks like this game will be played in the low 80’s. That’s going to feel like the AC is on for Texas. -

Why do people keep saying our OL is young? You have 3 guys going into their 4th year, another into his 3rd and the last into his 2nd? That hardly seems young to me. Some inexperience? Yes but for the most part not very young. As for the defensive staff at Ohio State, my recollection is that only the DC is new and they retained pretty much everyone, except the coach we took from them. Their D has some really good players but I don't know that it's close to what it was last year and obviously a new guy at the helm leading the D. Offensively, I think their OL is going to take longer to gel than ours. A couple of transfers from what I remember and they still aren't set on guys at their positions or even a group as a whole. A QB who hasn't played much, good RB's but not anywhere near what they had last year. The one area they most likely out shine us is WR and TE. Not that Endries is bad, but we wanted Klare first. If not for the proximity to home, he might be in burnt orange. As for a score, I'm not real good with those. Maybe we return the favour and win 28-14? Don't know if Texas goes down early, but who really knows. Tough road game environment, against a very high quality opponent. Anyway, good post -
