@CJ Vogel do you anticipate Spence playing LB at all next year? I know they like him at edge, but he was so good at Arkansas at LB. Seems like he could fill at least part of the void left by Hill.

We have teams opting out of meaningless bowl games because there’s literally zero point to playing them for the older guys. Common opponents ND loses to us too. Miami does deserve to be in but somehow they magically moved up 8 spots with a win over Pitt versus us moving 3 spots and being ranked ahead of them with three losses and a dominant win against the number 3 team in the country. We shouldn’t have lost to Florida?? Fine, then kick bama out and put BYU in because they shouldn’t have lost to FSU. G5 has no business being at the table and effectively created a bye for the 2 teams that play them. Instead we get a Bama OU snooze rematch? Horrible, just pitiful. The irony at this point is that we wanted TAMU and OU to go deep enough in the playoffs and get smoked by osu and UGA so we again have an argument posthumously that they got it wrong and we should’ve been dancing.

I’d agree with @TexasFanatic Dont think you need an all conference level guy at linebacker, but certainly not a developmental piece. Kentucky LB Landyn Watson fits what I would target right now. Just someone who can give you 10-20 quality snaps and could step in as a starter should someone go down. I’m looking for a David Gbenda level role to be filled at LB out of the portal.

These head to heads are like a fine wine. If the selection show would have been a couple of weeks down the road, who’s knows, maybe our head to heads against Oklahoma and A&M would have been considered more valuable. There are only 3 teams in the playoffs I’m scared of.

FWIW - over the next couple of months, I think it hurts Texas for people to be speaking negatively about current players on the roster. Let the coaching staff decide who they want to keep and who they don’t. Some opinions I’ve read in this thread are woefully uninformed and can only be used as fodder for opponents. That’s reality. As an underclassman Broughton got put on skates more than any DT I’ve seen at Texas. He surprisingly cleaned that up by his final year and held the point of attack well. I’m sure Watson will too.

The dude was a true sophomore. Your memories of those guys are in their 4th and 5th years. DTs get better with time. We’ll be better off if he has time to mature here.
