AUSTIN, Texas — The University of Texas and the University of Memphis have finalized an agreement to play a home-and-home series over the next two seasons, the two schools announced Friday morning. The Longhorns will host the Tigers next year in Moody Center on December 16, 2026. Memphis will play host to Texas during the 2027-28 season on a date still to be determined. Tip time and television network coverage for next year's game in Austin will be announced at a later date. Texas holds a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools which dates back to the 1965-66 season. In the first meeting, the Longhorns claimed an 80-72 win at Memphis in the opening round of the Memphis State Classic on Dec. 20, 1965. Texas posted an 80-79 victory at No. 19 Memphis on Dec. 12, 1972, before No. 12 Memphis responded with a 90-82 win the following season in Austin on Dec. 13, 1973. Texas and Memphis completed a home-and-home series during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons, with the Longhorns winning both contests. On Jan. 6, 2005, No. 15 Texas claimed a 74-67 victory in Austin. The following year in Memphis (Jan. 2, 2006), No. 15 Texas recorded a 69-58 win at No. 4 Memphis. In the most recent matchup between the two schools (March 30, 2008), No. 2 Memphis registered an 85-67 victory over the No. 7 Longhorns in an NCAA Tournament Elite Eight contest in Houston's Reliant Stadium.

UPDATE: John Meredith III OnTexasFootball is going to continue to report Texas is in the top 2 for 5-star John Meredith III (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley). A source close to the recruitment continues to stick with the Longhorns and Texas A&M being the top 2 at the end of the day for the 6-2, 170-pound cornerback. Meredith III and family are working to set up official visits right now. OTF can report that Texas wants the first visit. That would be June 5-7, assuming it gets locked in. Texas A&M prefers the last weekend of June. Will Muschamp and Mark Orphey are leading the recruitment for Texas. They remain in constant contact with the circle. The other two programs that OTF believes will receive official visits are Alabama and Ohio State. The top ranked prospect in the Lone Star State in the 2027 cycle will make a numb er of unofficial visits this spring. Those are expected to be Texas, Texas A&M, Notre and Miami for sure. The Fighting Irish and Hurricanes are battling hard for an official visit.
