Torres is definitely not at a positon of need but it would be more of a “best player available” situation. Swan would be much more of a positional fit on the roster, to lead a position group of younger catchers in Wallace, South, and Clemmer. Stewart can catch too if needed but I think the staff likes her more at first.

It’s not impossible that she’s a factor but it’s not necessarily something I would count on for sure. She also removed texas softball from her bio (which could mean nothing) and didn’t travel with the team or post anything about the postseason run to the title at all. Also being removed completely from the online roster doesn’t make sense even if she was ineligible. I think anything she contributes is a bonus but it shouldn’t be counted on.

I’m not sure what her status exactly is, as she hasn’t been with the team for a while and disappeared off the roster so I would keep her name written in pencil for next season.

I think from what I’ve seen out of them Wells is a better hitter but Doty is a better pitcher. Both are very talented though and have the ability to do both. Though I think it might be hard for Doty to find ABs once we pick up some portal bats and if Lawson comes back healthy.

Older sister Skylar played at OU and was Big 12 Co-POY with Booker in 2024. Father Bryatt played at OU under Billy Tubbs in 1992-93.

She could be a guaranteed high usage player there, and would get to play with her younger sister.

Unfortunately she’s not going to be the last portal entrant either. There’s going to be a lot of speculation this offseason about what went on behind the scenes but clearly this is about more than one game, it’s a structural collapse.

One of the reasons women’s basketball has a unique appeal over men’s recently is the longevity of the star players with less early pro departures, and not as crazy roster turnover. Unfortunately, it seems like that may not be the case for the second part. However tough, have to adapt with the times. The talented group of incoming freshman will have opportunities and we will be a top destination target for portal players looking to win.
