I don't think he's necessarily saying Texas is doing anything unique here. He is making a false equivalence in that coaches are technically free agents all the time and teams have to pay buyouts to acquire a coach. Players can enter the portal and transfer with no penalty, and often have these conversations when it's actually against the rules. It's also worth noting that BOTH Texas and Xavier had pretty unremarkable seasons with equally unremarkable rosters. Texas is losing a ton of players. It's the nature of the game. RT being fired shouldn't be news to anyone and those players knew what they were signing up for. Bilas is just a talking head that can conveniently ignore all of the externalities of his argument because he's "fighting for the players".
