  1. A few really positive things about Saturday that no one is talking about. Auburn has looked off all year, even on made kicks and extra points the ball hasn’t been coming off his foot right. Every kick after the back to back miss on Saturday was the first time he looked like the consistent ball striker he was last year with the consistent flight he had been getting. Vernon Broughton continued to come on. He had a hand in a tackle for loss, made 3 other tackles, and was coming off the edge from a 5 tech that caused the Hawkins scramble that led to the Sorrell Sack. It was Morice Blackwell’s best game of the year, he was a sure tackler and flew around. It was Bill Norton’s best game of the year. There was marked improvement in both punt and Kickoff coverage over the off week. Did I miss anything?
  2. I think I’m not horribly worried about the run defense because I think PK’s plan was to test his defense to see if they could consistently stop the run with a 5 man box. They pivoted in the second half because they couldn’t and the difference was palpable. If other teams think the same blueprint will work against Texas they’re gonna be surprised.
  3. Has there ever been a name you’ve mispronounced worse than Umeozulu? 😂
  4. I think JJR is our nickel after the upperclassmen are gone
  5. Jordan Johnson Rubell looked very comfortable in the spring game for a true freshman, and him being the third option at 2 positions makes me feel like he’s gonna be a dog for us in the future.
  6. I am once again reminding you that Derek Williams was not in for the Spring last year, and you should be more excited about him than you are. Hook’em!
  7. Which Houston Little Woodrow’s was it?
  8. Any chance at flipping Kevin Wynn after that performance that everyone was watching?
  9. The first thing I heard was all 3 and I was a bit surprised, thanks for clearing that up
  10. I think the lack of contact for our guys will be felt more as a slow start vs. Colorado State than against Michigan. I feel like if we get into the first game and most of these kids just need the switch to flip after a few hits. If it’s felt very much at all.
  11. I know the super chats to the guys are a joke, but in reality, even if it were true that Michael Taaffe were too slow to be a D1 safety, the way the secondary was last year and with a bunch of young guys again this year I’d trade 4 deep ball touchdowns over his head this year… which would be 3 more than he gave up last year, for good communication and everyone knowing where they were supposed to be.

  12. A lot of times when talking about safety depth people bring up a long completion on Jelani Macdonald in the Spring game, but if I’m thinking of the same play it was a lack of linebacker depth, and an incredible read by either Arch or Owens to flatten the receiver’s route with his throw. He had no chance at that play no matter who he was. I’m more worried about the whiff on the run for if anything with Jelani
  13. I completely agree I’m just saying I’m much more worried about lead blocking and pass protection than I am about inside zone work
  14. Tre Wisner looked really effective in his minimal time and a ton of that came off backside zone though
  15. I had thought about this, I like Niblack getting a couple of touches in the backfield a la Brock Bowers. Also I was banging this drum in the Spring and it just became that much more important, Quinn Ewers, maybe even more than improving his deep ball, needs a red zone fastball this season.
  16. I’m much more worried about the pass protection than I am on inside running.
  17. Just 1 step down from CJ Baxter
  18. Well Sark’s scheme up to this point had CJ Baxter in mind as RB 1 and I do think he’s better at inside zone and if you can have that you can afford to have Jaydon Blue as a crazily effective utility back. I’m just saying people are talking like Jaydon Blue can’t do it and I’m here to tell you he’s gonna be above average at it.
  19. I will say that he might need 2-4 fewer touches on it on average each game because of the weight and possible injuries, but I think he’ll be effective in the inside zone runs he does get, and Gibson can pick up the slack if needed.
  20. I think the message boards, comment sections, and even the guys are mistaken about Jaydon Blue’s ceiling as an inside zone runner. It’s not like he was getting arm tackled left and right last year. He has very thick legs, and you didn’t see Jonathan Brooks, the best inside zone runner in college football last year, blowing up linebackers in the hole. Inside zone is about acceleration through the hole and running through arm tackles, and I think he’s elite at one and pretty damn good at the other.
  21. I’m not saying it’s a great idea, but if Sark ever needs a crazy curveball to get the offense going we have the personnel to implement a 23 personnel package that starburst motions into an empty package that would confound defensive coordinators.
  22. I think a large but overlooked purpose for the safety rotation is to try and get the young guys as much on field experience next to the professor Michael Taaffe as possible. Can anybody speak to how much he’s talking to the young bucks after reps where they’re lined up next to each other?
  23. If we’re still worried about the right side pass blocking come the Michigan game I think we have a secret weapon in one of the best pass blocking tight ends in college with Gunnar Helm. He will dispel a lot of my fears.
  24. I just think he’s a 3 and out to the league guy
  25. Someone asked the guys today if Alex January would be in the rotation or if he would be red shirted, and I’m sorry to let you down, but even if he’s red shirted he will not play 4 years of football at the University of Texas. Just too good.
