OK…..I’m a die hard Longhorn fan first and foremost. Football first then basketball, baseball then lady’s basketball, softball and everything else. My wife (who’s also a TexasEx) has fully accepted every Saturday each fall will revolve around watching Longhorn Football. After that, it’s the Texas Rangers, Dallas Mavs (welcome Cooper Flagg), Dallas Stars (great win last night) and Dallas Cowboys (no chance we get to another SB till JJ sells our Cowboys). Love watching the four golf majors and pull for our Longhorn alums like SS today (clutch back 9 for the win for Scottie after rough start today). That pretty much sums up my sports interests until 2024. I fully acknowledge never caring one bit about watching the WNBA till last season when CC made it interesting every game after debuting with her dynamic passing, logo 3s and the whole “WNBA against CC jealousy tour” the way she handled all the hate with such class, rising above it all. My 10yr old son loves to play basketball and last season he got into watching the women’s game after we watched the women’s ncaa tournament run by CC and Iowa before they hit the Dawn Staley buzz saw in the finals. We never thought one minute about the Indiana Fever, why would we? Then the Fever get CC #1 in the draft. What? Now we root for the Fever in our home. That’s crazy and makes no sense. So many moments last season of the ‘old guard’ showing hate to the new face of the league (left off the 2024 Olympic team looks completely ridiculous in hindsight, all the intentional and obvious efforts by other players to injure CC on the court in non-basketball moves, the one by Carrington with DC shoving her nails in CC’s eye being the most blatant). CC just kept grinding, never got sucked into the BS drama. It’s inspiring and impressive. So yesterday afternoon marked the Fever’s 2025 season kickoff against Angel and the Chicago Sky. It was awesome. The Fever are flat out fun to watch, the pace, fluid ball movement, logo 3s, passionate fans. They blew out the Sky by 35 points (93-58) in by far the most lopsided game of the wnba opening weekend. Like the Lakers of the 80s or the Warrior after Steph Curry took over, it’s fun and impressive to watch whether you’re a fan or not. On her individual performance, Caitlin Clark casually went out and scored a 3rd triple double (20-10-10) in her very short professional career (note: after her next triple double, CC will be tied for 2nd most triple doubles in wnba history 😳). The moment she blocked Angel’s layup with a subtle shove to the floor in the 3rd quarter was awesome as a less-than-subtle notice to the league that it’s a new season and she’s not gonna be pushed around or intimidated this year. The next 3 months are typically quiet for sports in our home after the NCAA World Series, NBA and NHL playoffs…. but not anymore. We’ve got WNBA and Year 2 of Caitlin Clark / Indiana Fever to get us through the summer. Gitty up!!

Love watching Arch’s highlights from last season as a teaser for this season. One of the most exciting things about Arch in this small sample size was his coachability and desire to learn and improve from game to game as evidenced in his two starts: UT -vs- ULM - 15 of 29 for 258 yards, 2TDs and 2INT Arch tried to force some throws in his first start and took some unnecessary chances that led to 2 INTs. One week later for SEC opener… UT -vs- Miss St - 26 of 31 for 325 yards, 2TDs and no INTs Noticeable improvements in Arch’s decision making, not pressing as often downfield when it wasnt there. Will be fun to watch Arch take steps each week, learn, grow, get better, help the team get better as the season progresses. I haven’t been this excited for our horns football season to start in 20 years. Feels like the next couple years could be special. Hook em! 🧡🤘🏼🐂

I’m all in for that. If Sark gets 2 National Championships in this new era of college football with the portal, NiL, 12 team CFP (possibly 16 teams starting next year?) where building a dynasty is that much more difficult, Sark will deserve a statue AND they should name the new indoor practice facility after him, lol. 🧡🤘🏼🐂
-
Agree. Sark has opportunity to be the next Pete Carroll of the 2000s or Nick Saban of the 2010s by building his own legacy at Texas. Agree that Sark turning away Bama's overtures and ignoring calls from the NFL is one more piece to this story that makes it exciting to see what's ahead for the Horns. Sark seems fully locked in, loyal and committed to make Texas great and to build his legacy here. Hook em!

One more question that I've been thinking about....Is there another school across the country that's made a bigger positive turnaround over the past 4 years in all aspects of the football team? Culture, Winning, Recruiting, NFL Draft, Coaching Stability, etc.? No other team comes close. Several teams were already really good and new coaching staffs kept the party going (e.g. Day at Ohio State, Lanning at Oregon) but Day is going to be challenged this season with a much younger team and new coordinators on both sides of the ball. Acknowledging massive bias, but I don't see any other teams across D1 with this kind of incredible turnaround in all aspects of the team over past 4 years. I hope we are able to keep Sark for the next dacade plus, similar to Saban at Bama. May be wishful thinking but his talents translate extremely well at the college level and there's no better job than the 40acres. Hook em!🐂 🤘🏼🧡

Thinking about all that’s unfolded over the past 24 months for the Longhorns football team. So many positives combined with a few bumps along the way. It all starts with Sark, the way he manages, motivates and unifies the team from the top. As much as I liked Mack, there’s something different and ‘next level’ special about the combination of traits and decision making by Sark. His coaching staff, administrative staff including GM, recruiting portal, play calling, preparation, overall decision making and at the core of it all, the culture he’s instilled. High character players, they work hard on and off the field (3.31 team gpa this spring), teammates who put team first, guys could enter the portal for more playing time and more money elsewhere but the stay because they all believe this is something special worth much more. Arch could have left a year ago and easily started (and starred) for many of the Top 25. As he said himself, “some things are worth waiting for.” Quinn could have e transferred after this past season and made more money in one final season for Notre Dame or Miami than he’ll likely make the next 2-3 yrs in the NFl but he cared more about leaving as a Longhorn with class. How many guys would show that loyalty to a school despite many fans openly cheering for Arch to replace him as QB1. Sark could have replaced Quinn in the Georgia game and left Arch in for the rest of the season. Who knows how the result would have been on the field but I bet the locker room would have felt divided. That was an extremely tough situation to manage and the Horns went to back to back semi finals in the CFP with 4th quarter drives in both games that barely ended in defeat. For each of these three men, they repeatedly showed high character, grit, strong decision making, putting team first, setting the tone for the rest of the team. Can’t wait to see how it pays off over these next 2 seasons. It’s not just the result on the field but how the Longhorns are doing it that has me so impressed and excited for what’s ahead. Hook em! 🧡🤘🏼🐂 ,

Found it interesting that they rank ASU’s Sam Leavitt as the #1 QB (at #5 overall on the list) and his WR1 Jordyn Tyson as one of the best receivers (at #19 overall). I can believe that ranking much more than at least one of the other ‘experts’ who had Penn State’s Drew Allar as the top QB. Overall, this list of projected top 100 players was interesting and seems to have some good insight. Still hard to believe Georgia (2) and Ohio State (3) had such a small number of top players going into 2025.
-
Surprised by how little respect Georgia is getting. Only 2 players (both on defense) made the list. Given the Bulldogs track record on the field, in recruiting and at the nfl draft, how could that be right? Florida with 6, Bama with 5, even South Carolina and A&M had 3 each. It was a bit surprising to see Ohio State only had 3 players make the list with two of those being arguably the best player on offense and defense.

https://www.on3.com/news/top-100-players-in-college-football-for-the-2025-season/ https://www.on3.com/teams/texas-longhorns/news/seven-texas-players-land-in-on3s-top-100-players-in-college-football-for-the-2025-season-list/ Interesting 'Top 100 Players' list from On3. Ohio State has #1 and #3 players in the country with Jeremiah Smith and Caleb Downs. Texas has the most players in Top 100 of any team in the country with 7 plus we have 3 players in the Top 10. Interesting to see Florida with 6 players in the Top 100 and Georgia only has 2 players in Top 100. The times are changing. Excited for this season to get started. Hook Em!! 🤘🏼🧡🤘🏼🐂 Texas Players in the Top 100 No. 4: EDGE Colin Simmons No. 9: LB Anthony Hill Jr. No. 10: QB Arch Manning No. 43: CB Malik Muhammad No. 45: WR Ryan Wingo No. 90: OT Trevor Goosby No. 93: S Michael Taaffe

I’ll go with #3 Flacco starts first 6 games then Picket starts 3 games. Sanders starts remaking of season and plays well enough to earn starting QB for second season.
-
Joe Flacco at 6ft 6in makes Dillon Gabriel at 5ft 11in look more like the team kicker. Sanders and Pickett both listed at 6ft 2in. Sanders looks shorter than that. Not a Cleveland fan but will be interesting to see who is the starting QB for the Browns this fall.

Fox also announced their new streaming app yesterday with all Fox Channels (named "FOX ONE"), including Sports, News, etc. For ESPN and Fox, these announcements come after the joint venture (VENU) between Fox, ESPN And Warner was scrapped due to anti-trust concerns. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/12/fox-one-streaming-service-launch.html

It's been painful to watch the wheels fall off the bus over the past 2 weeks with our injury riddled pitching staff combined with our bats going silent. Can only imagine what our team is likely feeling, given everything they've accomplished during this first season in the SEC. Every team goes through slumps but the recent injury to Jared Spencer has the past two weeks feeling like our team is now exposed and vulnerable. at the absolute wrong time, headed into the post-season. Thinking about how down the team must feel, there is absolutely nothing more timely than the opportunity for the Horns to get the wheels back on the bus by rallying to bring their A-Game against OU this weekend in all phases of the game. How good will it feel if/when the Horns win the series against the Sooners and also win the SEC regular season at the same time this Sunday. The past two weekends will become a distant memory if we can get things on track against the Sooners. Let's Go Horns!!!! Hook Em!!🧡🐂🤘🏼

Hopefully, they don’t screw this up. It’s a gift that we have an opportunity to build a dynasty with a few key moves to strengthen back court.

Hope Quinn is able to sit, put on some needed muscle and develop into a starter over next couple years: Would be a great story

Quinn Ewers has signed a four-year rookie contract with the Miami Dolphins valued at approximately $4.33 million. The deal includes a $131,576 signing bonus, which is the only guaranteed portion of the contract. The remainder of the contract is not guaranteed, meaning Ewers will need to earn his spot on the roster to secure the full value of the deal

Ok, that’s funny. 😂🤣 Bill will need to update his 2025 autobiography where he referred to her as his ‘muse’ and ‘idea mill’, giving her credit for his success. Makes sense. Since they went public in 2023, Bill went 4-13 that football season and then he got fired. Now, she’s made him an embarrassment on national TV. Clearly she’s been a great inspiration.

Now, I’m watching rowing championships at 815a on Mothers Day morning. Great, that’s the way to start the day so I remain in the doghouse. 😳😂🤪
