Good to see your perspective Gerry. Agree that with Baxter out blue is suddenly much higher on the top 10 list. I’m not sure about Cam Williams though in the top 10 because couldn’t you just move Conner to RT and move Neto into LG?

    Huge drop off IMO

People in the building think Cam Williams may end up a 1st rounder.

  2. The list now and by seasons end may look a lot different ... Texas has 23 players that will be truly graded by NFL scouts this season IMO

    Quinn Ewers

    Kelvin Banks

    Cameron Williams

    DJ Campbell

    Jake Majors

    Hayden Conner - UFA

    Amari Niblack

    Gunnar Helm

    Isaiah Bond

    Matthew Golden

    Silas Bolden

    Jaydon Blue

    Alfred Collins

    Jermayne Lole - UFA

    Tia Savea - UFA

    Bill Norton - UFA

    Vernon Broughton - UFA

    Barryn Sorrell

    Trey Moore

    Ethan Burke

    Andrew Mukuba

    Gavin Holmes - UFA

    Bert Auburn - UFA

Texas will get 10-12 out of the group drafted IMO

  3. 1. Quinn Ewers - losing a third year starter in Sark's system and NFL draft pick would be a challenge, even if Arch Manning is QB2.

    2. Kelvin Banks - losing a first-round OT is very tough.

    3. Jaydon Blue - with Baxter out, losing Blue would significantly change the Texas team from having both Baxter and Blue headed into the season.

    4. Muhammad - huge drop off, and top corner by far

    5. Anthony Hill - huge drop off and top 2 player on the defense

    6. Cameron Williams - too much youth and unknown behind him

    7. Alfred Collins - by far the most talented interior defensive lineman that also provides scheme versatility

    8. Trey Moore - May be the best player on the defense.

    9. Derek Williams - safety position can't lose it's most talented player.

    10. Gavin Holmes - depth at corner will be a concern until it's not.

What made Baxter a year ago be so far ahead of where Gibson is now?  I would have assumed coming from IMG that Gibson would be more college ready to play day one than Baxter last year, but it appears to be the opposite

Baxter's natural football intelligence is extremely high end.

  5. Any RB can catch a pass out of the backfield too … but it doesn’t mean you have the same passing game out of the backfield with Blue and Baxter.

If it was Blue that had been injured … you weren’t going to see Texas run Baxter down the seam in the passing game

Players have different strengths/skill sets at the same position

  6. Good topic for sure.

It’s not that Blue can’t do it, but it’s not going to be maximizing his ability/touches, and the idea was for Texas to have Baxter and Blue play off of each other to their strengths and stress the defense in multiple ways from the RB position.

Texas plan was not to have Blue eating up his touches between the tackles, which is not his strength as a RB if you want to maximize him.

We were going to see more two back personnel this season with Baxter as the RB and Blue a speedy playmaker that Sark could move all around and work favorable matchups in the passing game with Blue. Texas will have to make adjustments with some of the plan with the Baxter injury.

Sark is just going to have to make changes to the plans for maximizing this team/offense now … plenty of talent to work with, but the top three RB’s headed into the season (Baxter, Blue and Wisner) weren’t just plug and play - in terms of the plan this season

So, where do we go from here? Obviously, we circle the wagons and hope for a flip or two. Any feelings or feedback about possibilities?

Texas is staying on Myron Charles and a couple of others committed elsewhere

I think the Horns will also make a run at Chace Sims - A&M commitment

And senior evals on 1-2 committed elsewhere that Kenny Baker didn’t have the chance to see in person in spring
