I think the biggest issue is expecting guys like Neto in year 4 to be a better option than an experienced player out of the portal. I don’t get how you watch him in practice for 4 years and expect him to start and a week before the season starts he gets beat out by someone who also isn’t ready to contribute. As much as it’s been discussed, I don’t think there’s any scheme changes or changes in play calling that will make this a playoff team. The rest of this season is more about evaluating players and coaches. Changes are needed and a real GM might be a good place to start. -

Far be it from me to extrapolate Dan Neil's thoughts, but I think he is saying we aren't very quick off the ball. And, I agree. We just don't get off the ball quick enough. But I stick with my basic hypothesis, "paralysis by analysis". Once we trust our assignments, the quickness and power will come. Quick big is better that quick small. We do execute in small batches, but then regress. My suggestion for all the offense is just shut your brain down and go play...... easier said than done. -

Wait till Florida finds out he doesn't call his own plays, they'll have to cut his salary by a few mil

Harder to measure "success" at FAU...

What’s the deal with Lane Kiffin he hasn’t won a championship anywhere much less play in a championship game.

That is a very fair and obvious assessment. I don't think the answer to that is recruiting "undersized" offensive linemen. -
I tend to agree. Kiffin to me is like a better Lincoln Riley, great offenses, but not sure they'll field the defense needed, granted Kiffin tried to build a defense through the portal.

2005 was probably one of the greatest years in the history of Longhorn sports. According to Perplexity AI: The 2005–2006 athletic year is widely regarded as one of Texas’s greatest multi-sport seasons, driven by historic championships in major sports like football and baseball. However, when compared to modern all-sports dominance — such as 2024–2025, when Texas won the Directors’ Cup and excelled across nearly every sport — 2005 was iconic for its high-profile titles, but 2024–2025 surpassed it in overall athletic depth and consistency. - Today

Lane Kiffin

I think the numbers “leaked” out are inflated to make Ole Miss feel like they need to raise the offer to keep Lane (knowing they likely can’t, or won’t want to) and it puts them in a corner. That would be a sound tactic from Florida if they want to get their guy and / or put financial stress on a conference foe -
And if that TCU vs UNC game had been in week 4 or 5 the Big 12 would have 0. No one was watching that game for TCU. That said, I still enjoying watching Big 12 games but I'm a sicko who is watching 5 games at once all day on Saturdays.

Bit 12 is dead. No one cares or watches.

Seems like a good thread to drop this X memory - the most fun I've had as a Longhorn fan -
Kiffin has better offenses, but Sark’s better overall imo

Is Kiffin better than Sark or about the same ?

The sports department has come a long way, and im here for it -
Since the arrival of CDC anyway. Is that almost every sport is competitive and realistically has a chance to make a run at a championship. Reading Blake's update on baseball, seeing the potential for the basketball teams, softball is in the top 5, volleyball is #2 and expected to make a run, swimming, etc. It allows for constant entertainment of being able to watch Texas and be invested. It's different than the days (and schools like for example Kansas) where a fan could only bank on one or two programs to be excited about and then the rest of the year is ho hum.

Kiffin will be wildly successful at Florida. What he’s done at Ole Miss with a fraction of the talent and resources he would have at Florida is already historical (by Ole Miss standards). Kiffin has an offensive system that scales. His current QB is a D2 transfer that arrived at Ole Miss in June to back-up Austin Simmons…and Ole Miss’ offense doesn’t skip a beat. I don’t think Kiffin enjoys recruiting much, but he knows to hire assistants who do. In the state of Florida, he’ll have an in-state advantage in the most talent-rich recruiting state in the country. As long as Florida competes in the NIL space, Kiffin’s rosters will be as talented as any in the country. And if you’re an offensive player, you’ve already got proof of concept that Kiffin’s system scores big points against the top teams in the SEC. This is as close to a no-brainer for success as Florida can possibly have. Now, let’s hope they can screw it up 😂

How many schools has Kiffin walked out on?
-
Kiffin's at least been successful since then at FAU and Ole Miss, Herman's trajectory has gone the other way and to now his only sniff at success as HC of a program was at Houston.
-
I disagree, he also messed up at TN and his reputation for being a disloyal POS is growing and growing. Also, if he has success at FL the odds are he’ll jump to NFL or bigger contract elsewhere. I think he’ll flame out at FL. To me he and Herman are cut from the same cloth.

You have a point there. She’s 🔥

hey @Bobby Burton can we get Brett on coffee so we can all laugh at him?

What do you mean you don't see the attraction???? Have you seen Layla???

I tend to agree. Florida is a damn good job. Of course, any job takes making the correct hire
