Even football has level and they will always come first. Texas pays in football but is typically not the highest offer. I can see Swain coming back because of his relationship ship with Coach Miller, but turn down first round money? Louisville got the Xavier guard at two million last year if I am remembering correctly. And the prices keep going up. Say you pay a shooting guard with length two million plus. You still have to pay Matas, Swain and Goosby. Once you do that you still need a power forward that can face the basket. Need a veteran guard that preferably gets into the lane and make shots. Man it’s sounding like we may need Wilcher and ughhhgg Heide to come back at reduced prices. So hard to build a team these days.

Great article, Jeff. To further your point, Jonte Newman was listed at 275 lbs as a recruit but was listed on A&M's roster last year as a true freshman at 331 lbs. He is now listed on our roster at 302 lbs and looked good in the pictures I saw from yesterday's practice. I liked him (and his teammate Ryan Fodje) during the recruiting process. Even though he is a little shorter at 6'4", he has great length and moves really well. I hope he can make an impact for us at OT at some point. As I posted before, I am really interested to see how Jordan Coleman looks this spring. He has great height, length, and strength, but did not move as well as some others in his HS film. He has clearly dropped some bad weight (and added some good weight since he is still 354 lbs) based on the pictures I saw from yesterday. I am interested to see how he is moving now and whether he can stay at OT or needs to be moved inside to OG.

Texas has money, but there are levels to it. Texas doesn't have close to what tier 1's have. Just reality. Matas will be double to be here year two. "IF" Swain were to come back, he would be dang near double. Goosby wasn't cheap out of HS (even though he turned down double+ from BYU and double from Duke) In a scenario Swain came back (which I am not predicting), that's A LOT tied up by potentially your three best players. 55-60% I think that's the main difference in tier 1 NIL programs ... that's 33'ish%.

-- Argyle (Texas) WR Julian Caldwell was on campus yesterday as expected. "It was great!" Caldwell told OTF. "It was a lot of fun getting to watch the super talented receiver room Texas has! I also had a great time catching up with Coach Sark and Coach Jackson and they definitely made a good impression on me and my family." Texas is in the top three with Oregon and Texas Tech. -- The Longhorns offered 2028 Southlake Carroll OT Ty McCurry on his visit yesterday. "The visit was awesome just as last time! Getting to see Coach Flood man the O-line during practice was definitely something I was looking forward to. Then to be able to sit down with him to discuss me being a priority, along with how I'd be utilized was definitely a highlight as well." -- Reminder: STUD Georgia LB Joakim Gouda will be on campus today. Updated Tuesday 10:00 a.m. -- Texas offered 2028 Lovejoy OL Jayden Thompson on the visit Monday as well. "The visit was great I really enjoyed it. The highlights were touring the campus and football facilities. Seeing the designated areas for athletes was very impressive. The program invests a lot in the players from nutritionists, trainers, tutors. financial advisors and those are all important to me." Thompson's reaction to the Texas offer is everything you need to know. "I think I stopped breathing because I was in shock," Thompson said. "I couldn't believe it was happening, I was so happy." (CJ) -- Additionally, 2028 Tupelo (MS) LB Kaiden Buchanan will visit the Horns on Friday. Buchanan was originally eyeing a date later in April, but instead will get over to campus this week. The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker is ranked inside the top-125 for the 2028 class and has offers from 32 programs. Texas will get a first chance to build their relationship with Buchanan on his first visit to Austin this weekend. (CJ)
