These Bowls are literally self deprecating
Austalgia replied to CHorn427's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I can’t concern myself with Notre Dame either. I think they are cry babies though, and cutting off their nose to spite their face. Those greenhorns are exactly why they need 15 days of extra practice. You essentially get another spring. And since we don’t use ours properly anymore (OTAs, that IMO make us soft) I’m glad we have sucked it up, and decided to use these practices. -

I wouldn’t be opposed to that either, but the same people saying these bowls don’t matter and we should opt out would be out in full force saying Sark and the rest of the staff should be fired for poor performance. Damned if you do damned if you don’t. -

Walk-on to Baylor. Wasn’t even offered PWO to Texas even after his performance in the state finals. Similar to Taffe. His brother graduated Baylor. Has a little bad taste in his mouth for Texas. He is playing in the Senior Bowl. -

Absolutely. Those teams who do not participate are missing an extra opportunity similar to missing spring practices and a real game as opposed to an intrasquad scrimmage that follows spring training (or doesn't). Important for next year. -

I think every team has a right to determine whether going to a bowl is the right thing to do. ND looks to have a lot of starters who’ll be opting out anyway. Can’t blame them for not wanting to throw out a whole bunch of greenhorns into a bowl game. Personally I think Texas should take a hybrid approach. Take advantage of the 15 practices. No doubt several departing starters will opt out. Protect folks like Arch, CJ and Wisner (if he stays) and limit their game reps. Play the hell out of the kids starting in the 2nd quarter. -

Texas has really only lost to UGA Ohio state and this hiccup Florida team since joining the sec? Plz get me some trench monsters. Clearly that’s the last step sark needs to take? Looking back at those losses, the clear reason we lost, out played physically. The answers r there I feel like. - Today

I’ll take ten extra practices and a game in December against another top five all time wins program. The offseason is long. -

The names are stupid now but the goal for the team remains. Those extra practices mean something to younger players. ND is just acting like cry babies. -

It’s ‘Texas Fatigue’ imo. Every ranking and decision proved that out to me this season in combo with being listed as #1 going into the season. It’s as if they are trying to “punish” Texas by saying we disappointed them. -

Another thing on Rufo I'm seeing, is he is fast for a LB that size, covers TE's really well. Something we struggled to do this year. -

6'7 you say? Lol. But seriously, if he has starting experience at both, that is a huge plus. I'm certain the staff would take a look at that guy. Rufo looks pretty good, good size and ability. Would be a veteran presence. -
His injury was one that is hard to come back, from the little research I did on it. Not sure he'll ever get it back to where it needs to be but I think he might've pushed himself back too early this year and then got another injury on top of that. Hope he fully heals over the off-season and we see what he can do next year, if he decides to stay.

Seems like a good dude by all accounts but the guy got paid over a $1M to produce nothing over the last two years. Honestly 2025 was worse than 2024 because he kept soaking up carries and wasting plays and possessions. Even against A&M he just went 6 carries for 10 yards while Wisner was 19-155. (And Wisner is a kind of limited RB himself), Even before the injury he was less than 5 ypc in 2023. It's nothing personal but you can't go into next season hoping for this guy to be the answer again. We need someone proven in the portal.

I hope we take a serious shot at the LB GianCarlo Rufo out of Georgetown. One year guy that gets downhill in a hurry. The OT out of UConn, Ben Murawski, is interesting. 6'7 335lb with starting experience at both LT and LG. One year guy. -
I’m not too quick to judge what Baxter has left in the tank. Yes there are stories like Jonathan Gray out there, but some of you guys would have given up on Jordan Shipley and Bo Scaife, not to mention J Whitt. Plus Baxter is by all accounts a great influence in the locker room. With the expanded roster I’m not relying on him to be a rb1 next year but he deserves some time to rehab more if wants to stay.

It says a lot about reputed fans who complain when a player does not recover fast enough from major reconstruction surgery for their liking. Hopefully such fans will soon find another home. 🤘🏻🤘🏼🤘🤘🏽🤘🏾🤘🏿

Yurachek is a self confessed biased incompetent. He has nothing to do with Kamala Harris who has years of competent public service with integrity to her credit. -

Rushing Name Q. Wisner RB C. Baxter RB J. Gibson RB C. Clark RB J. Simon RB There is your list by production... Gibson, Simon, Wisner likely gone...you have 2 coming in. Still minus 1 if that happens. Baxter has put it on the line and done everything he could to get back even though hes likely nowhere near 100%. Will he regain 100% of what he was?? 50 50 shot. Baxter would be the only back with substantial experience and hes likely to get better maybe even significantly so. It would be a very impatient approach to offload a back that could potentially be very productive, with no question about work ethic or how he fits with the team, and the only back with substantial experience. And if you gave me a shooter that only hit 20% but likely hits 50% the next year...you bet im keeping him around.

You have guys that are fighting until the very end of the season and hoping they can reach the national title, and probably devastated when they don’t make it (especially seniors) And then you find out you’ve been invited to: - The Pop Tart Bowl - The Cheez it Citrus Bowl - The Snoop Dog Bowl -The ReliaQuest Bowl It’s pretty embarrassing. And you have people all over social media making fun of you for it. You’re very unlikely to get credit for a win in the game. It is a far cry from the Rose Bowl, etc. Things that mattered. I’m happy Notre Dame looks like crap from opting out, but I think all of these teams deserve a little empathy for having to hold their heads up and face the noise in these self deprecating bowls
