He’s been leaning in his defense his entire tenure here while the offense has lagged far behind.

We discussed this today on Coffee and Football, but Dave Campbell’s Texas football surveyed about 50 kids anonymously. The graphic I made doesn’t go over all of the survey, but some key points here worth discussing imo. Longhorns commit Jermaine Bishop is named the best player in the state by his peers. Texas gets the most love when it comes to HC you want to play for the most and top facilities. Texas A&M comes away with best stadium (Texas 2nd) and best atmosphere (Texas 2nd).

AJ McCarron thinks Bama sucks because of recruiting

I remember CJ and gerry loving the deboer hire at bama saying “he wins wherever he goes”. I just wasn’t convinced he could field a competent defense for the SEC or win at this level on a consistent basis. -
I got you. I marked them as sold!

AJ McCarron thinks Bama sucks because of recruiting

UW was 4-8 the year before he got there. What he did with UW was impressive. The UW job was very different than the Bama job. The Bama job is very different than any job DeBoer’s had. The only two coaches that have ever had sustained success at Bama were two of the most hardass coaches of all time. I just can’t see a HC that is California cool having real success coaching Bama. He’d be better off at a premiere Big10 program. Just doesn’t fit imo -

A very hard fought 10-2 to make the CFP this year is not completely out of the question and would be very impressive. But I’d give it a 1-5% chance given their schedule. -

DeBoer is screwed regardless what he does because he isn’t Saban. Never follow a legend much less the GOAT. -

DeBoer was blessed with a senior laden UW team who all came back for one last year in 2023. He’s yet to “build a program”. It shows. -

I would argue DeBoer inherited a Rolls Royce from Saban whereas Sark inherited a Ford Focus from Tom Herman. - Today

OTF Premium Texas Snap Counts vs. Ohio State (Sunday)

The surprising thing to me is why Brad Spence transferred from Arkansas just to get 5 snaps. Dude could have had a monster year at Arkansas and headed to the league. Hope we have a good plan for utilizing him appropriately this year. -

CJ Vogel replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Definitely. Really, my biggest takeaway from that is the trust the staff had in Zina Umeozulu to play the run as often as he did. He was one of the edge rushers when Texas went big on the goal. And no, not really too surprised by Jackson. He is a total stud and plays the run better than the other two. Vasek will see 25 snaps this weekend against a team that throws the ball 45 times. -

@CJ Vogel would you expect Vasek and Spence to take more snaps when Texas isn’t going big to stop the run like they did against OSU? I was surprised to see those guys with so few snaps. Second question is, were you surprised to see Lance Jackson get more snaps than either of those two? And does that mean he’s taking someone’s job on 2nd team? -

The biggest concerns about Florida this year is that the game is in their house, their starting freshman QB and RB from last year look like NFL talents and have another year of development at the collegiate level which should show significant growth, and lots of their WR and defensive back depth were injured last year vs Texas. Texas' Captain insane-O type beating on Florida last year might have been my favorite game of the season because it was one of the few where my expectations were far surpassed in a good way by the offense. I expect an inspired Florida team to bring their best game at home and for it to look much different leaning on the run game of Baugh with a healthy second year Lagway. They, like most Texas opponents will try to set up a shortened game running clock. Texas will win if they play like they should, but I felt the same way about the Ohio State game. Don't sleep on a healthy Gator team at home.

Last point is so important. I think Coach Erwin talked about it and I completely agree... Arch was missing that swagger that makes him who he is on saturday. He himself said that he plays his best ball when he's having fun, and I'm sure he wasn't on Saturday... I think this really comes down to experience, being able to tap into that mode even on the road...
