Texas will earn its first preseason AP No. 1 ranking in program history Sometimes I’ll come across a stat on Sports Reference that’s so stunning that I have to check 6 different places to verify it. While working on a story about why Texas should not want to be the preseason No. 1 team in the AP Poll — that stems entirely from the fact that the preseason No. 1 failed to win a national title 19 out of the last 20 seasons — I stumbled on something that blew my mind. Texas has never been a preseason No. 1 team in the AP Poll. It’s been close. It was the preseason No. 2 in 2009, 2005, 1970, 1965 and 1962, but since the preseason AP Poll became a thing in 1950, it never held that No. 1 spot entering the season. This year, that finally changes. It was picked to win the SEC, which has been the preamble for the preseason AP No. 1 team each of the last 4 years. Yeah, maybe that’s a bit because of the Arch Manning hype, but a team riding consecutive Playoff semifinal trips that returns a wealth of talent on defense would be worthy of that honor. Well, I suppose recent history suggests it’s a bit more of a dubious honor. First time maybe

Another step to the best time of year. I’ve gotten out of touch with high school mostly since my kid graduated. Enjoy!

Today marks the first day of conditioning for 1A through 4A, along with 5A/6A schools that didn’t go through spring practice. No contact is allowed. Helmets only as well. Saturday, August 9th marks the first day of full contact for those schools. Monday, August 11th is the first day of conditioning for 5/6A schools that went through spring training. They can begin full contact on August 16th. Other Key Dates: 08/14-16 - First scrimmage for 1A-4A and 5/6A that did not do spring ball. 08/21-23 - Second scrimmage for 1A-4A and 5/6A that did not do spring ball. First (and usually only) scrimmage for 5/6A that DID participate in spring ball. 08/28-30 Season begins. Note: 7 day rule applies between all scrimmages and games. 1-4A can play a third scrimmage if they don’t play week one. 5-6A can play a second if they don’t play week one.

In all honesty, I’m too busy to pay for multiple sites. I will, however, gladly pay for OTF content when I need to satisfy my Longhorn fix. I just want to say thank you for all the Longhorn nuggets. Appreciate the content from all the OTF staff and their guests(Tony Hills is a particular favorite because I always learn something from him whether it’s about life in general or about football). I'll be honest, I don't watch any women's sports and I barely watch most men's sports lol. But good for you, I guess?

Re-watching UT v ATM game on SEC network…
Jc Dobbs replied to Bevo92's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Over the summer I have re-watched the games from last season. Bond was very good early in the season and dropped off after the injury. Just as he was getting re-established he got hurt again. After that second injury (or the tweak of the original, whichever it was) he was never productive again. Like many WRs, he seemed to be psychologically fragile about his injury...or he violated the old rule of thumb about "Never let 'em see you sweat." He couldn't play through the pain, etc, and it bothered him so much it affected his performance and contribution to the team. I agree with you and when I saw the game replays it was worse than I remembered. -
CJ Baxter may need a lot more time....

Complete domination by us along the lines of scrimmage was the theme of that game. The score aka quinn’s two turnovers made it seem way closer than it was in reality. -

I watch hockey, football, and wrestling if I want to watch contact, not small-minded women. -

This upcoming draft class is super talented so there's going to be even more eyes. Players like Hannah Hidalgo, Azziz Fudd, Awa Fam, Olivia Miller, Chloe Kitts, Lauren Betts... it's going to be awesome for the sport. I enjoy the W and what GSV has done in their first year is unheard of. I'm always going to wondering what if Kayla didn't get hurt. -

Appreciate the enthusiasm! It’s great to see the league getting some publicity and providing a market post final Four for excellent basketball on the women’s side. -

What was impressive about the Burke play, is if he had missed, Broughton was right there in the backfield to stuff that lane. But yeah, that was another game that we made closer than it needed to be and probably closer than the final score indicated.
