Not someone that would ever be mentioned on something like this because he was primarily a backup, but just want to give him a shoutout. Brett Valdez wore #66 on the 2005 national championship team. I grew up with him and thought it was pretty cool that he worked his way onto that team and can forever call himself a champion.

Hope he doesnt burn us in the draft like what unfortunately happened last year with Freeman and Moroknek, but seems like a great pickup if he makes it to campus

Completely agree. Early in his recruitment, I had read and heard some things that made him sound like a bit of a premadonna, kind of a Felix Ojo type. But, he's really been impressive with the way he has handled things over the last 6 months or so. Very impressive guy.

I only had the opportunity to meet DKR once. It was about 2 years before he passed. Everyone that knew him has always talked about how humble he was. I thanked him for what he did for UT. He essentially refused the compliment and just talked consistently about how great the players were that he had the chance to coach. What a great man. He will always be remembered.

Jim Schlossnagle and Texas Baseball secure a commitment from former UCLA outfielder Payton Brennan Monday evening. Brennan hit .290 with 9 home runs and 51 RBI for the Bruins in 2026. He also racked up a .394 on base percentage on the season. per 64Analytics, Brennan was the No. 8 player in the portal rankings, adding to what has been a solid haul for the Horns this summer. With the current roster, the Texas outfield will likely consist of Anthony Pack Jr., Sawyer Solitaria and Payton Brennan as the starting trio. Long Beach State OF addition Trevor Goldenetz is likely your 4th option.
