Playing a LB with 4 tackles over experience and production is a joke
-
How much was he getting paid this year? How much of a pay cut did they ask him to take?
-
I saw that OU just added one of the Michigan Linebackers, and as usual, ESPN says he's one of the top Linebackers in the portal. We just saw him play, and either didn't get a visit or didn't ask for one. It seems to me that the portal is a crapshoot, and there are not a lot of players that Sark and Company are not willing to bet a lot on. I would think the best read would be on their own players. These kids we are letting walk were not overly great, but on the outside looking in, they had potential. I suppose, on the inside, they look at things differently. Their jobs are on the line, so I trust their judgment a lot more than the internet coaches.

What the point of cheaper depth when you swing miss at all your top targets? Seems like there should be more to go around for depth. I reiterate we are going 0 for 6 for our top 6. Monday you told me no. Brown, Baugh, woods, Michigan guys, Coleman.
-
100% agree
-
lots of BYE's
-
IMO the move would be to take 10 stud freshmen who are likely to play year 1/2 and 10 cheaper dev guys (Jett type) and then supplement with 20 from the portal each year. Still need a core of recruits, but those need to be guys ready to play year 1 or 2 or cheap enough to be the depth. Then if their asks go up and wont see PT, let em walk and replace em. This is pretty much what Oregon does rn I believe Totally sucks, and I hate this new world, but until we even get enforcable contracts (let alone collective bargaining), you have to tighten up the core
-
Letting him walk is a joke!
-
Thank you for abiding by the spirit of the thread!
-
yeah especially if the Demond williams situation ends up with him freely being allowed to leave. If you cant enforce a contract the player willingly signed, then man this is going to get ugly real fast
-
Last year we had concerns about only taking 1 LB in the 2025 class. You said we're fine because Bo Barnes is the future. We can't keep borrowing from our future by taking portal guys in all of perpetuity. At this rate I don't want to hear about how we can't complain about the portal success because we had the #1 class.
-
That's obvious since all the ones we're talking about have signed with other schools. But because this is the GOOD VIBES thread, I'll say that you never know who we might dig up and lure into the portal that no one is even considering yet!
-
I'd have to imagine a lot of these guys seeking way more money then they are worth will start to have their asking prices come down over time. The big name people who can demand whatever are setting the market, and the depth pieces will then fall in line behind. for every bo barnes that we have, there is a bo barnes from another team who will realize he wont get that money and sign for what we think is reasonable over time.
-
This. Odd that he'd leave. Can't be a huge market out there for him.
-
Looks like he probably will have guys ahead of him in 2026, and some behind him that will come fast. Maybe he is worried he will peak, at Texas, as a 2nd team type. Fairly likely scenario.
-
I can’t imagine that anyone outside of Tech is happy with the current situation. This portal window will surely fire up most of the P4 schools to demand change
-
Yep. We’ll see if they’re right.
-
There’s plenty of time. The timeline to enter the portal closes on Jan. 16. As I mentioned in my article this morning, I suspect Texas will be adding depth pieces all the way into the spring.
-
Staff must be really confident we can upgrade all these positions with the portal if they’re letting all these players walk…extremely concerning when they have no control over who enters from other teams.
-
2-3 With the third a cheaper depth piece than Barnes.
-
yeah I always wondered about the crazy numbers for some of the recruits. Like why pay the 1.5M for a #1 at a position who wont see the field that year... It should be like okay you get 100k year one, then 1M once you start type of thing.. so yeah if its just paying them a ton to get them in the door, that sets the floor of their pay. so if they dont immediately start or are ready to be a top guy year two, its not a good deal for the school to pay so much to have someone sit. Somethings gotta change, this new world is kinda terrible
-
This version of college football is a downgrade.
-
I look forward to a day when the portal has some sensible guardrails.
-
Bobby, with Barnes out do you expect Texas to take 3 linebackers now and do you have any news on the Cal LB
-
we have yet to get a Hi for this portal. 😂
