I like Rodney. Seems like a genuinely great guy. Probably a solid coach too, but seems like a better fit for a mid-major. At the end of the day, he's not elevating the program. Not just from a W-L perspective, but also with regards to the fan engagement, generating buzz, etc. Seems like he's treading water rather than having a vision as to how to grow the program overall.

What has this week done for Rodney Terry? Entering the SEC Tournament the future of Rodney Terry at Texas was when, not if. Now after wins over Vanderbilt and Texas A&M very likely resulting in Texas getting a bid in the field of 68, Terry's tenure has life in Austin. OnTexasFootball does not believe Terry is assured of being retained just by getting in the Field of 68. So the next question is what does Terry need to accomplish in the NCAA Tournament to get another year in Austin. The first scenario is very simple, can't drop the play-in game and be secure. The problem with losing in the Round of 68 would be trajectory of the program. From Elite 8 to Round of 32 to Round of 68. But what happens if Texas wins the play-in game, and advances? That provides Terry with the opportunity to earn another year. That would be winning a game in the tournament three straight seasons. If Texas wins two games in the NCAA Tournament, another season odds go way up. Winning six games in three seasons in the NCAA Tournament is not normally the formula to get one fired - save a few blue bloods. But Texas is not a blue blood in hoops. Firing a coach and paying him 4.5-5 million to leave after winning six NCAA Tournament games in three seasons is a lower percentage probability. Also for Terry's future ... Rodney Terry's two wins in the SEC Tournament will prove very beneficial in getting another job (USF has shown real interest) if Terry and Texas part ways.

If Texas wins two games in the tourney, tough to let a coach go. Would likely be a kick the can down the road for a year scenario. But we shall see what happens. -
Personally, I too hope we make the change. Very similar situation to Pierce last year.

Pierce made the playoffs last year won one game and was gone. I believe we’re well down the road on RT being gone. Elite 8 round of 32 and now hoping to squeak in. He’s reverting to his history. A meh record and meh coach. Glad he beat loser aggy 2/3 times this year.

Even with a "magical run" the program trajectory and fan attendance at Moody are not in his favor. -

Needs to win a couple of games in tourney to ensure he has shot to stay. Lose in play-in game ... trajectory of program Win play-in game, lose in round of 64 ... trajectory of program Win two ... given himself a chance IMO -

After graduating with an MBA my first job was in Houston. After just a few months my corporate employer sent me to live and work in Memphis. I enjoyed going to SEC football games throughout the South over the next few years. It was "back in the day," circa late 1980s. When Texas played "State" in Starkville I went to the game with Texas fan friends who came for the game and a long weekend in Memphis. Bobby has mentioned his experience attending that game. Longhorns were optimistic to open the season... think it was 1990 or maybe '91. Butch Hadnot decided to change his running style that day and it was a bad decision for the Longhorns. Regarding Starkville, I remember thinking that MSU would be attractive to a certain kind of recruit. Kids who wanted a small town college atmosphere and a venue where they could totally immerse themselves in the student -athlete experience without many distractions. Later I went to a baseball game in Starkville when MSU played Ole Miss and I thought the baseball experience was more enjoyable than the atmosphere State projected for football. I remember thinking if I had been a high school kid looking to play college sports MSU baseball would have been far more appealing than football and it seemed like Starkville to the MLB would have been more reachable than the NFL. Glad I went and got to understand what MSU was like. Back then anyway it was a very small town and the fans were super loyal. And like all college rivalries they really didn't like the Ole Miss Rebels. The cowbells were their signature thing. Didn't really bother me but I remember when the Longhorn Band used to rattle cowbells for first downs and big plays. Hook 'Em!

Because why? Because NET 43? Because 7-11 in q1 to our 7-10? Because it has a q3 loss? OU has a very good argument for being included, but calling it a lock at this point is inaccurate. If UNC beats a Cooper Flagg-less Duke tomorrow, and if Boise State can win another game, then OU might be on the outside again.
