I would feel much different about this if Parker didn’t light every bridge on fire on his way out. What more money and playing time? Fair enough. But to act like Texas forced him out or treated him unfairly is a bush league move. Not wising bad things on the kid but pretty disappointing the way he had to disrespect Sark and Texas on his way out.

Yep, although this was doubtless his agent’s narrative plan, not Parker’s necessarily.  The Athletic story was embargoes well before the Citrus Bowl, so such BS for Mandel to make it a bigger issue (and Mandel certainly knew what he was doing).

This was really just the Athletic / NYT / Mandel getting clicks off another Arch Manning story (particularly after the Citrus Bowl performance).  The Livingstone angle was just the noise to get readers to look at an Arch story.

Or they are getting good advice…you’ve maxxed out your value at Texas and you’re looking at a lesser on-field role as Texas upgrades the roster this off-season.

Since you’re not likely to ever be a high round NFL pick (and certainly not so as a back-up at Texas), NOW is the best time to leave Texas for a bigger NIL paycheck elsewhere and get a better opportunity to show something on-field for NFL scouts.

This is certainly the best path to maximize both current football earnings, and at least  marginally increase the chance of a post-college paycheck from the NFL.

If either Livingstone or Wisner gets a bigger NIL paycheck elsewhere and more on-field snaps elsewhere, than it was the best financial decision for them.  The only downside is not being a Longhorn graduate for life and the benefits that provides later in life, but football is the immediate issue (not the longer term issue).  This is just business now.

I wish them both well and thank them for their efforts over the past few years.

Perhaps, but doesn't seem likely. If usage is the real issue, there's no reason to go through the money drama.

Again, seriously doubt Indiana or similar school is going to pay much more than Texas. They can't compete at the highest level if they waste money.

Dude thinks he can earn six figures more per year. Is it a 40 year decision when you take a job right out of college that pays you substantially more for doing the same task? Kid wants more money and more reps (which went down significantly when Moseley came back this year).

The problem is he has NO GUARANTEE that he will get more $ from anyone else than UT offered. Bird in hand vs bush.  I also think that ANYONE coming out of college getting a job who makes their decision solely on the highest bid is possibly making a bad decision.  But in this case, it is even more dramatic, as you are not factoring in your ability to move up in the organization that hires you out of college and offers the environment to enhance your long-term career prospects in your industry.

Odds are he never sees the NFL, so this is ALL about short term $ maximization, and my point is his degree from UT likely ends up being way more valuable than a one-time $100,000 payday - IF he can even get that higher figure today.  As I said, I wish him the best, but based upon his own written comments about wanting to be a Longhorn and having no intent to leave, this wreaks of a bad short-term decision he was talked into by a cash hungry agent.

Ok, so he’s taking a chance on himself. Good for him.

Also, Parker was a Physical Culture & Sport major at Texas. He wasn’t there for the Chemical Engineering program.

Typical BS by The Athletic. Posts a story saying he was forced out..follow up comment saying he was given an offer. And of course the original post is the one with the most interactions.

This. Plus the article about Arch being the first ever CFB "bust". NYT + the atheltic have some axe to grind about us. I don't get it.

Texas’ name brings ad revenue with clicks. That’s all there is to it unfortunately. A real journalist would delete the original tweet
