Longhorns in the Australian Open

Now that we’re officially in the offseason, let’s look at some former Horns doing battle down undah.
 

Former Longhorn Eliot Spizzirri just beat the 28 seed player and one of the most hyped youngsters (Joao Fonseca) to advance in the first round of the AO 🤘. In his post-match he mentioned that he channeled lessons from Texas vs OU and other college matches in tuning out a very animated and well-travelled Brazilian crowd. 
 

Peyton Stearns also won her first match yesterday against 27 seed and former AO champ Sofia Kenin to advance 🤘. She’ll play again Wednesday.

 

Lulu Sun unfortunately lost her first match but will hopefully bounce back this season.

Spizzirri is giving world #2 Jannik Sinner hell right now on ESPN 2.

Unfortunately, Peyton Stearns lost to world #4 Amanda Anisimova and Spirrizzi got overpowered (but put up a good fight) by Jannik Sinner.

Tough draws!  That’s all for the longhorns at the Aussie Open. Now to root for the Americans.  Folks still in the field:
