David Latiolais
How does IMG make money as a school? The cost to go there is crazy, but most of their football and basketball kids must be on scholarship? It's only for sports, so I'm guessing it makes it money with all the golf, tennis, baseball and volleyball kids? Still, with all the coaching required, seems they have to spend a lot of money with it's infrastructure to make it worth while for a kid to go there. How do they recruit kids? Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted April 29 Moderators Share Posted April 29 Yep. around 75K to attend for a year. Some countries will pay to have their athletes attend IMG. And there are a lot of deals with the Under Armour, Gatorade, etc... IMG Academy sponsors ■ Air Weave ■ Dunlop ■ ForeverLawn ■ Gatorade ■ Gatorade Sports Science Institute ■ Johns Hopkins Medicine ■ KwikGoal ■ Michael Saunders & Company ■ Musco Lighting ■ Select ■ Therabody ■ Under Armour ■ Uni
Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted April 29 Moderators Share Posted April 29 I believe they make around 75-80 million a year ... which is very impressive. Having been there 25+ times over the years, it's an amazing campus, facilities, Power 5/pro like set up and awesome location - beach, weather, year round training weather, two airports, etc... It's extremely well run on top of all of it.
Hashtag
I believe they also subsidize less fortunate attendees cost.
David Latiolais
So are there any pushing kids to go to a college that has Under Armour as a sports sponsor?

IMG was founded by Mike McCormick, one of the most powerful agents in sports (now deceased). IMG was originally founded for those athletes who could afford elite academy-level training, nutrition, development, etc. in a specific sports (tennis, golf, gymnastics, etc). It expanded from there to include hoops and football. As mentioned above, they now subsidize athletes whose families can’t otherwise afford the cost of professional development. And, yes, McCormick’s original vision for IMG was that his sports marketing firm would be the agency representing these athletes in the professional careers, so that was the upside payoff. That almost sounds a bit USSR or China sports? Can you get asked to leave if you suck at sports?

It's a completely voluntary school and not state run so long as you want to pay they will take you, to my knowledge. The subsidized athletes may be another story.
