thatdude2 Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago We do have an identity—as an offense, a special teams unit, and a defensive unit. As a complete team, we are aggressively wired. When Sark calls a slow-developing play on 4th-and-inches, he’s looking to take advantage of a defense that’s overly aggressive in trying to stop the run and turn that aggression into an explosive play. When Manning looks off the checkdown, he’s hunting for a chunk play. On special teams, we’re willing to gamble on kickoffs to gain an advantage, enticing teams to return the ball so we can pin them inside the 20. The unfortunate reality is that when aggression doesn’t work, it can shift momentum to the other side. We used to make fun of Tom Herman for saying his goal was to get two first downs every possession. But there’s some wisdom in playing good, old-school field-position football. Sometimes, you don’t have to hit the home run. Sometimes, you just need to move the chains, flip the field, and make the other team drive the length of it. The key to beating Sark right now is to take away the explosives and make him earn it the hard way. Eventually, his aggressive nature is going to tempt him to push the envelope. In my opinion, that aggression has contributed to each of the last two losses. But I’m still 10 toes deep! @Rod Baberssaid 10–2, so I’m hopeful this team can dig deep, make the necessary adjustments, and turn this thing around. I understand the struggle of being a prodigy and the nonlinear road it takes to reach greatness. (Not saying I’ve reached greatness myself, but I’m on my way! ) Hopefully, Sark—the offensive savant—and Manning can reach that greatness while they’re here at Texas. Enjoy your Sunday! 🙏🏾 I’m calling it Restoration Sunday. 10–2. Hook ’em! 🤘🏾 Quote
