In September 1982 I had just taken a job at a startup company in San Jose, employee # 149. Many of our engineers and managers had graduated from Stanford, including the founders, and we also had a big contingent from Cal, so there was a lot of back and forth between them before the Big Game. Stanford, with John Elway at QB, had kicked a FG with 4 seconds left to go ahead 20-19 and this was the ensuing kickoff, which was amazing. My boss at work was a Cal Bear grad and was coming over for dinner that night. When he and his GF got there I said "Congratulations on the game. That was amazing." He gave me a stink-eye look and said "What the hell are you talking about? I went to Cal." "Yeah, that's what I thought. That was a great finish." He said he had turned off the TV after "that effing field goal" - when I told him Cal ran the kickoff back for a TD with 5 laterals as the Stanford band ran onto the field he didn't believe me until I turned on the TV and we found a recap on a local channel. He had missed one of the greatest plays in history. LOL I didn’t watch it live, I don’t remember if it was on in Houston. I saw the highlights that night on SprtsCenter. Those were the days when you could watch ESPN and I sometimes left it on 24 hours a day Quote
Battrayal Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago My third grade team had a kid like this. about 3 times a game we would hand it off, he would run 20 yards outside to the right, stop, run all the way back around to the left, stop then run all the way back to the right for a touchdown. must've covered 2.5 football fields a TD Quote
