  • Chip Kelly Expected to Take Ohio State OC Job

    CJ Vogel

What a wild turn of events coming from Ryan Day's program.

As it looks currently, Buckeyes OC Bill O'Brien will head to Boston College to take over the head coaching job.

To fill the void, UCLA Head Coach Chip Kelly is expected to make the jump down to offensive coordinator according to Pete Thamel of ESPN.

What an unprecedented move here. New era of CFB.

He got a load of talent in the offseason and now another OC.   The minor issue Day that will likely cause his failure is the QB.  Just a minor detail.

Would love to go after UCLA DT Jay Toia now. He’s got great size (6-3, 325) and was productive. Initially committed to USC but transferred to UCLA after just one semester. Who was the UCLA DL coach he transferred to play under? Johnny Nansen.

Ryan Day has no more excuses this is his final stand! All the weight of the world on him!

Why? After this coming season he will be at roughly 70 wins and 7 maybe 8  losses in 7 years, 2 or 3 conference championships, three or four college football playoff appearances and a national title appearance. How could they fire someone that’s done that?

Did Nansen recruit him? You’d have to think he did at some point

Yes. Though Toia chose USC over UCLA initially, he went back to UCLA to play for then-Bruins DL coach Johnny Nansen quickly.

Ryan Day was Chip Kelly’s QB at the University of New Hampshire.

This is a great hire if Chip is the play caller IMO

When does the current academic quarter at UCLA conclude?  Could we perhaps get Toia in for spring practice?  <wishcasting>

Ohio State has the best roster in the country in my eyes. The players that opted to return to school that could have gone pro give them the boost over Texas and UGA.

yet they have to rely on will howard.. i know you think he's everything, but we all have seen him struggle.. adding him to a team with a new OC.. This won't be a repeat Joe Burrow story

Are we worried about Nansen as a possible candidate for UCLA?

I don’t think Nansen would do that to Sark nor do I think it’s a job worth taking. Just seems like there are issues there for Kelly to do that.

March 22nd, but no way to get a student enrolled for Spring semester at UT now, unless they get really creative.

That would be awesome. Not sure if the timing will work though. Not saying it’s not possible but it’s really late for a student to enroll at Texas this semester.

I have no information or insight.

But when has that stopped any of us from talking?

Without a lot of money I wouldn’t want any of those fringe B10 schools. Can you imagine the flights and recruiting? I just don’t see West Coast fitting into that conference without major headaches.

Their OL is trash, they don't have consistently at the QB position, and lost their most valuable weapon on offense.
