  1. Biggest news is Boogie Fland being out for the season, so the Calipari era in Fayetteville maybe just got that much darker. There are already articles out there about other SEC coaches criticizing his coaching style. https://www.si.com/college-basketball/sec-coach-devastating-one-word-description-john-calipari-arkansas-winless-conference-play Arky is 0-5 going into a road game against tournament hopeful Georgia. What's a dribble drive offense proponent going to do when he loses his best dribble driver? I guess Wagner moves to the point and Arky will depend on everyone creating their own shots and controlling the middle, but eesh. Looking like a disaster of a season building there. Georgia already beat Kentucky in Athens this year and lost to Auburn by two when it shot off the front of the rim on a inbounds play with 0.3 seconds. I always liked Mike White, and I thought he got the shaft by Florida. Wasn't surprised to see Georgia snap him up quickly. Freshman Asa Newell (the guy I wished we could have landed more than Toppin because of likely remaining length of college career) leads in points and rebounds. He takes a few too many threes, but what can you do with 6'11" kids these days? Georgia offense has become spotty since 3pt shooting went into the tank at the start of conference play, and turnovers have been a problem for White's teams for several years now, but the defense has been locked in. In yesterday's games, Alabama beat Vandy in Tuscaloosa by 16. Game was closer than that after Grant Nelson whacked a Commodore in the chops with a forearm and was called for a flagrant one. Oats bitterly complained that it wasn't like he took a gun to a former player to kill someone, so it should have been let go. Refs gave Bama the benefit of the calls the rest of the way. Tennessee bounced back from the close loss on the road to Vandy by beating Mississippi State by 12, holding MSU to 34% shooting. Back after lunch to describe the rest of today's games.
  2. Works for me. I used to try to do a lot of that, but elder care eats up a lot of my time these days. Besides, I'm mostly just a stathead who watches a lot of basketball and chimes in with my opinionated a**holery.
  3. We should hope for the day HoopsCoach migrates here.
  4. Ok, but I always tried to give Shedrick credit for rebounding at least somewhat, even if he doesn't get enough, and he improved that last night. He was still the turnover prone guy who couldn't pass out of the post last night, but at least he converted most of his touches to points via drawing fouls and making the ft. We're shooting 81% from the line in conference, btw.
  5. No, but their PT should be adjusted when they are playing some kind of totally sucktastic ball like Pope did last night, particularly early in the second half when he dribbled 20 seconds on our first possession before even attempting to get past the top of the arc, or when he dribbled away 24 seconds on another possession before passing, or when he drove into a defender, was stripped, and committed the f1 foul. Or like when Larry did what Larry was doing in the second half against Florida. Or when we need Weaver to fight on the glass because we are getting creamed on the offensive boards because no one except Kaluma on the front line is getting rebounds. Weaver is a valuable guy. He might be behind the other 4 guards in the rotation, but he brings a dimension the others do not. Including the occasional flight to the roof of the gym for a rebound or dunk that gets an otherwise tepid crowd back into the game.
  6. Who are you talking about here? Shedrick only showed us rebounding and free throw shooting which were things he was pretty good at while at UVA. He fought like hell for some loose balls, so that was a big contribution. Or are you talking about Larry being better than he was Saturday? Kent had a better game today but was still a no-show on the boards. This was a team defense win all the way. We held Missouri to 53 points. It scored 83 in each of its last two games.
  7. You should have quoted my earlier post about Shedrick and Kent stepping up big tonight for that.
  8. More like we beat them on the boards and played mostly turnover free over the last 15 minutes. We had 14 offensive rebounds tonight. That was huge in this win.
  9. Nice win. We have played three ranked teams in conference home games. We lost to two top 5 teams in games that were within one possession with less than 2 minutes to go. We just beat a top 25 team by 8 points. And didn't have Weaver in any of it. Burying this team is dumb. Thinking they can be world beaters is wishful thinking, but let them have their wins, recognize their chances to make the tournament, and understand they have never played at full strength this year. Now let's go out and trash the Agroids Saturday.
  10. And Johnson with the drive gets it to fall.
  11. Johnson in it's all on me mode saved by Shedrick being shoved out of bounds on the other end.
  12. You know, Shedrick screened for both Larry and Johnson on that play. Johnson didn't hit the three, and Kaluma cleaned it up, but it was far from a bad offensive play.
  13. I've ragged on Shedrick and Kent for several games, and deservedly so, but they have functioned tonight on a night in which Johnson, Mark, and Pope have done diddly-squat. I don't know if we will pull this game out, but kudos to the guys who haven't been showing up for showing up tonight.
  14. One. He and Johnson are 3/18 from the field so far.
  15. I think if this was the last 2 minutes, they would review that and give it to Missouri.
  16. Caleb Grill does it again with the hip against an airborne player. A little less obvious this time.
  17. Talking about giving your all on defense. That was incredible.
  18. Both after pretty good kickouts. Both by players shooting better than .400 bta this year coming into the game.
  19. Forearm shove to push Shedrick to the ground. No call. Really?
  20. 9 points in 11 minutes this half.
  21. Johnson has that I'm going to do it all by myself look.
  22. Good call and good d by Larry to tie up the guy on the break.
  23. He's also our guy who can confuse basketball with hockey and check an opponent.
  24. Onyema--our guy who can score in the post.
  25. I really don't want to see Johnson taking 28+ foot jump shots.
