  1. I dunno about preferring DeVries to Chris Beard, if that was a thing.
  2. I don't think he was, but as I have explained to people for years, the hard thing is not to talk about his team when he is out of the room, but to explain to him when he gets back in the room that his team is OUT and this is WHY it's out. I am not sure that a team under consideration that has had a rep on the committee has ever been left out. I'm sure it has happened but it is rare. First thing I thought of when I saw that they were in. And they were the last team in. The vice chair said UNC would have been out if Memphis had lost, but I wonder.
  3. Well.... yeah. But most coaches at this level end up failing. They get fired. Texas could afford, if they really wanted to do it, to hire a tested, great coach for men's basketball. They've never really done that. Beard was the closest thing to that, having made a FF. But he was an alum -- not that makes him less of a coach, but rather gave Texas an in to offer a deal at roughly market to someone who was inclined to accept it. Should they end up making a change here, people need to watch this carefully. With the standard CDC has set with his own words, the financial investment to do that is way beyond what they have done in the past, especially with the added cost of compensating the talent. We'll all see it, and judge accordingly.
  4. There is a zero point zero chance that Jay Wright is coming back to college basketball.
  5. If they have the money for the buyout, God bless 'em.
  6. That’s what you get when the other team is about 45 minutes away.
  7. So who is the coach with the achievements of Schloss that CDC will have to land?
  8. I suppose it depends on the ref but I've watched a lot of tournament games over a lot of years and I think it will be comparable to how the SEC is called. (shrug)
  9. I am an Underwood fan, but I've heard that Illinois is where he wants to be.
  10. Texas was 41 on the seed list, so the first of the last four at-larges.
  11. Actually, I think the games have been more physical if anything. They don’t want FT shooting contests.
  12. Wondering if Texas would be in OU's position (comfortably in) had it won the games it lost and lost to Vandy on Wednesday. I think the answer is yes. The wins this week helped but they haven't wiped out all of those losses, and two of 'em were really bad.
  13. That's obviously fair about the schedule. They have to be perfect to avoid blemishes. I would note that Irvine is the only other team in the BW that is ranked better than USC-E. With UCSD starting to get it together, I can see the good side. Unfortunately, bubble teams are not going to be playing them. The real question about the schedule is how many teams could win seven Q1 games if given 17 chances -- especially if they're playing a healthy sampling of Auburn, Florida, Alabama, and Tennessee.
  14. UCSD pulls to within two at the half. They do not have it together, but it is clear that these teams know each other. It's how they were able to get back in it.
  15. Texas still ranks above most of the teams in this analysis. However, I don't think there is a groundswell of support for a 14th team from the SEC. I'm not impressed with the UCSD resume. Best win is at Utah State. A couple of bad losses -- one in the league and one out. They would have lost two of three to Irvine.
  16. I paid for it for you.
  17. It's not Lunardi. It's the ESPN+ page on the college hoops page.
  18. Wait, what? That's your standard?
  19. Almost 90 brackets have been updated as of this time (about 6:30 CT) and Texas is on 44 percent of them. They need every possible favorite to win tonight.
  20. ... followed closely by Xavier. Who would want that coach?
  21. I suppose I agree... but you have to be right.
  22. Duke playing like a freshman team right now. The 24-point lead is down to six, UNC is going to the line, and there's still about four minutes left.
  23. Only as it affects the votes of the committee members. If UNC is going to get left out, it will be 1-12 against Q1 that does it. Their best chance was to beat Duke, with or without Cooper Flagg.
