  1. Galvan draws a walk. Only five of Edwards' first 11 pitches have been strikes.
  2. Mendoza did a really good job of staying alive with two strikes. He's on base after taking one in the shoulder.
  3. You ain't lyin. 10-2 lead for the Pirates in the top of the sixth.
  4. Mendoza, Galvan and Belyeu are due up in the home half.
  5. If you blinked, you might've missed the top of the first. Ethan Walker got through it on six pitches, retiring the Huskies in order.
  6. Unfortunately, he doesn't determine when those games are played. When Texas moved to the SEC, the conference took control of its Tier 3 broadcast rights. Instead of the option to put games on LHN, the Longhorns play when the conference decides it makes sense.
  7. Houston Christian LF Jack Walker hits third in the order. He's the son of legendary LSU infielder Todd Walker, a 12-year Major Leaguer who left LSU as the all-time SEC leader hits, runs scored, RBI and total bases.
  8. Parker Edwards from HCU is a righty, which explains why Schloss is going with Jonah over Tommy Farmer in the lineup.
  9. If you haven’t accounted for extra traffic due to McCombs Field hosting the UIL softball tournament, you need to get in the car ASAP.
  10. Walker, Bing and Flores are/were the options.
  11. One adjustment is that it sounds like the (temporary?) batter's eye won't be as tall as it was before. Assuming it's not 28 feet, I wonder how (if at all) that changes the rule of a ball that hits the monster counts as a home run.
  12. I'll never forget asking T'Vondre Sweat before the 2023 season started why he felt confident Texas would live up to expectations. His answer was four letters. "F-A, F-O," he said with a straight face. That set the tone for a memorable season.
  13. That's it for the press conference. CJ, Blake and I are recording this week's edition of "Based Loaded" in a few minutes. It'll be out later today.
  14. Offensively, Schloss said he believes the Longhorns' best baseball is ahead of them.
  15. Schloss said the day Max Belyeu was ready to hit on the field in his return from injury, the Longhorns immediately had a different energy. "You know when he's coming back up," Schloss said of Belyeu's presence.
  16. Schloss said playing HCU and UTSA during the season doesn't mean there's less work to do as far as putting together the scouting report, but it does streamline things because there's not as much background that needs to be done. "We're well prepared and these guys are ready to go," Schloss said.
  17. Schloss said HCU needs to take care of head coach Clayton VanderLaan. "Given the resources," HCU is working with, Schloss said, VanderLaan is a superstar in coaching.
  18. Schloss is "super impressed" with HCU's season.
  19. Schloss on the Longhorn hitters taking a lot of pitchers: "I don't ever want a hitter to come to Texas thinking their plan is to walk."
  20. Schloss said he was at dinner when the storm blew through last night. When he saw the photo of the batter's eye down, he told his friend, "I think I need to go." By the time he got to Disch-Falk, Schloss said there were already "eight or nine" people examining the situation and getting to work on fixing the issue.
  21. Schloss said Houston Christian is talented and playing hot right now. He'll look at the matchups and "what'll give us the best chance over the course of time."
  22. Ideally, Texas would have four starting pitchers they'd feel confident in putting on the mound. The Jared Spencer injury, however, has clouded the picture.
