What does Texas have to do to make the NCAA Tournament?
Gerry Hamilton posted news story in Articles
What does Texas have to do to make the NCAA Tournament? The Texas Longhorns will travel to Houston today to take on the No. 3 Cougars at noon Saturday on CBS. Texas (16-8, 5-6) has a strong NCAA Resume currently, but still has work in front of them to punch the ticket. OnTexasFootball takes a look ahead, and the scenarios for Texas to be comfortably in the tourney. Texas’ Remaining Schedule 2/17 @ No. 3 Houston 2/19 Kansas State 2/24 @ No. 6 Kansas 2/27 @ Texas Tech 3/2 Oklahoma State 3/4 @ No. 12 Baylor 3/9 No. 25 Oklahoma NCAA Men’s Basketball NET Rankings (Feb. 15) Texas is No. 31 in NCAA NET headed into Saturday’s games. The Longhorns are 4-6 in Quad 1 games, 1-1 vs. Quad 2, 3-1 vs. Quad 3 and 8-0 vs. Quad 4. Quad 1 games remaining for the Longhorns: No. 1 @ Houston No. 17 @ Kansas No. 26 @ Texas Tech No. 12 @ Baylor Quad 2 game remaining: No. 33 Oklahoma Quad 3 games remaining: No. 77 Kansas State No. 137 Oklahoma State T-Rank Texas is No. 22 in Bart Torvik’s rankings headed into Saturday. 2024 Pomeroy College Basketball Ratings Texas checks in at No. 25 headed into college games this weekend. What it means for Texas The Longhorns are comfortably in the NCAA Tournament headed into the weekend. That resume is aided by Quad 1 wins at Oklahoma, and over Baylor and TCU in Big 12 play. While Strength of Schedule as a whole may not carry as much weight as it used to, the Longhorns have played a top 30 ranked schedule and will likely end up with a scheduled ranked from 20-30 area. Most years, a sub .500 conference record would not get you into the Field of 68. With the monster level Big 12 Conference in 2023-24, Texas would get in at 8-10. Sitting at 5-6 with four Quad 1 road games remaining, 8-10 may be the best case scenario. Texas and seeding: Scenario 1: 19-12, 8-10 is likely a 9-10 seed headed into Big 12 Tournament Scenario 2: 20-11, 9-9 would likely be a 7 seed headed into Big 12 Tournament Scenario 3: 18-13, 7-11 would likely send the Horns to the NIT without a run in the Big 12 Tournament. Right now, I do not see a scenario where Texas is 21-10, 10-8 to finish the regular season. That would mean winning five of last seven vs. a very difficult closing stretch of the schedule. Texas has not shown that consistent type of stretch this season over talent neutralized stretches. -

Yep. Center is the plan for Cruz. Can't rul out some reps at guard, but his position at Texas is seen as center inside the building.- 47 replies

Just a brutal luck injury for Vic and the ladies. Strong pick to go to FF if Harmon stayed healthy.

I can say that Sarkisian was very upfront with a WR's HS coaching staff in the 2025 cycle at a school stop in January. Flat out said... Dakorien Moore is a #RecruitThroughTheWhistle until December. And guys like Kaliq Lockett and Kelshaun Johnson were very high on the board right after DKM. -

This is really for @taxsaverand the golf guys ... Coach Surratt's son, sophomore QB Jett Surratt, is truly about to blow up nationally on the golf scene ... this was at David Toms' facility Wednesday For those that aren't avid golfers ... ball speed at 198.7 as a 16 year old is truly otherworldly ... that's more juice that Rory McIlroy and the longest hitters on tour. Plus the 133 club head speed, and the 65's he's putting up on 7,100 yard courses ... bright bright future for a QB that also has P5 offers from Texas Tech and Houston with more to come. -

Friday Morning Recruiting Nuggets OnTexasFootball gets your Friday morning started with some recruiting nuggets. Kaliq Lockett, WR, Sachse (Texas) High The OnTexasFootball 4-star wide receiver prospect is expected to make a visit to Texas this spring. He will make that visit with family members. OnTexasFootball spoke with a source close to the recruitment Thursday. USC, LSU, Texas, Ohio State, Michigan and TCU were the schools mention most. Locket’s father is from Los Angeles, and his mother is from Louisiana. The Texas school visit was very impressive for Lockett. Steve Sarkisian left zero doubt that the 6-1, 180 pound smooth moving wide receiver is wanted by the Longhorns. OnTexasFootball believes the Longhorns have a legitimate shot in the race for Lockett, as of Thursday. That is despite Lockett not attending Junior Day January 20. A June official visit is also expected, as of Thursday. One more note on wide receiver recruiting OnTexasFootball doesn’t expect Texas to make a push for Garden State 4-star Quincy Porter (Oradell, N.J./Bergen Catholic). If Texas signs an out of state receiver in the 2025 cycle, the Southeast Region or Southern California is where that would come from. And there is a chance that Texas only signs in state WR’s in this cycle because the crop is ultra talented inside the state line. A new name to know The Texas Longhorns extended an offer to Cedar Hill (Texas) High 2025 IOL Jordan Coleman November 3 of 2023. Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood has been in contact since that time. OnTexasFootball believes the Longhorns could extend an offer to twin brother and IOL Devin Coleman (Cedar Hill, Texas/High) in the near future. Coleman, 6-4 and 315’ish, caught the eye of Texas and a number of others in January when coaching staffs stopped by the DFW 6A school. January offers for Devin Coleman were made by Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Colorado, Duke, Baylor, SMU, Tulsa and UTEP. Coleman is officially on offer watch. Jordan and Devin Coleman attended Texas Junior Day January 20. April 6 could be a big visit day OnTexasFootball 4-star IOL John Mills (San Francisco, Calif./St. Ignatius) will make an official visit to Texas June 14-16. Mills, 6-6, 325 pounds, is also expected to make an unofficial visit in the spring. April 6 is the date expected. The Longhorns continue to make a big push for Mills. OnTexasFootball 5-star OT Michael Fasusi (Lewisville, Texas/High) is also expected to make a one day visit this spring with his family. April 6 could be that date as well. #RecruitThroughTheWhistle There is a national 7v7 tournament in Dallas the weekend of April 6-7, so a few skill kids could make their way to Austin April 5 as well. Spring visit list (many, many names will be added) March 22-24 7v7 tournament in the Austin area: Brandon Brown, DL, Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie #AllGasNoBrakes Will make a first visit to Texas while in town for 7v7 with California Power program/team. Members the Texas Nightrydas team that are expected to stop and visit Texas while in the area for 7v7 tournament... Kiotti Armstrong, TE, Jasper (Texas) High - 2025 Texas and Texas A&M remain top 2 with Longhorns slightly trending. Javar Thomas, LB, Aldine (Texas) Nimitz - 2025 Texas offered February 2. Kosi Okpala, LB, Houston (Texas) Mayde Creek - 2026 Texas offered January 22, and leads early. Mayde Creek defensive coordinator is former Texas National Campion linebacker Rashad Bobino. Tai'Yion King, LB, Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial - 2026 Has 14 offers with Texas A&M standing out early on. Noriel Dominguez, LB, Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall - 2026 Has 14 offers. Will visit Oklahoma March 9. Grant Smith, QB, Spring (Texas) Grand Oaks - 2026 Texas QB coach A.J. Milwee is watching Smith throw in person during spring evaluation period. March 16-17 (subject to change): Peter Langi, IOL, San Francisco (Calif.) Archbishop Rirordan - 2025 May reschedule for when team is practicing. This is spring break weekend. 38 offers, including the Horns. Told OnTexasFootball they plan to visit in March or April, but don't have date yet: Faheem Delane, S, Olney (Md.) Good Counsel OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star Delane is in contact with safeties coach Blake Gideon. April 13-14: Major Preston, CB/DB, Hopewell (Va.) IMG Academy Texas offered January 30. Blake Gideon is in consistent communication. Spring Game April 20: Michael Terry, ATHM San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights Texas, TCU and Texas Tech the top 3 currently. Rickey Stewart, RB, Tyler (Texas) Chapel Hill Texas leads large over Baylor, SMU and Oklahoma State.
