OTF Premium Points Per Drive Update Entering Week 8
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
I wanted to provide an update at the Points Per Drive chart for SEC teams through week seven. Of course, Texas and Georgia headline the weekend's slate, but Tennessee and Alabama provide a heck of a ballgame to look forward to as well. Some key takeaways: – Oklahoma has the worst offense in the SEC. – Miss State has a bottom five offense in the conference and just dropped 31 on Georgia in Athens. – Tennessee and Alabama have dramatically come back down to earth in this graphic. – Starting to see true tiers start to take form. Texas up top, then Tennessee, Alabama, Ole Miss in the next tier and Georgia, LSU, and Missouri shortly behind. – Kentucky, Arkansas and Texas A&M are all going to be very tough games for the Longhorns. -
OTF Premium SEC Awards Fly in For Texas After OU Win
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
For the second consecutive game, Texas LT Kelvin Banks has been named the SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week. Banks was dominant against Oklahoma, not allowing a single pressure the entire afternoon. This marks the fourth time this season a Texas offensive lineman has been named the conference’s top lineman for a given week. Joe Moore Award loading.- 8 replies

OTF Premium Injury Updates | Georgia Week (Tuesday AM)
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
A quick update on some injuries suffer against Oklahoma in Dallas. *** – Steve Sarkisian announced the end of the season for DB Derek Williams due to an injury suffered on the opening kickoff of the second half. Williams was in obvious pain and was on crutches after the game with a heavy wrap on his knee. Surgery will occur in a week or two. My best guess is a ligament injury, most likely ACL, but that is not confirmed at the moment. – As for WR Isaiah Bond, the Texas WR was in a boot up until at least Monday evening. Sarkisian mentioned postgame he was knicked with an ankle and was unable to go in the second half. The week of practice will be crucial for his availability on Saturday against Georgia, but Sarkisian mentioned having more optimism than originally expected on Monday during his press conference. *** Jake Majors got twisted up on a play where a lesser athlete probably loses his season but was able to remain in the game and appeared to be just fine Monday during his player availability.- 6 replies

Both practice and recruiting are in full swing for Texas Baseball and it’s going well on both fronts. I spoke with a couple of sources regarding where things stand with the Horns. - First, let’s start with recruiting. Yesterday the Longhorns landed the No. 1 pitcher in the nation for 2026, after Trey Rangel (The Colony HS) chose Texas over A&M, Oklahoma State and others. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting Rangel to commit to Texas. This staff has hosted a ton of recruits over the last few weeks and he was toward the bottom of my list when it came to guys to keep a close eye on. That changed on Wednesday, when sources close to Rangel’s recruitment told me he fell in love with Texas on his visit and would be pulling the trigger quickly. It’s also worth noting that Rangel visited A&M after Texas, but it didn’t sway him. Many of you have asked if he would end up on campus. The answer is yes. I expect him to, this staff expects him to. Yes, he’s the No. 1 pitcher, but Rangel is on the smaller side and that will work against him in the MLB Draft. This staff also isn’t going to go all at for a kid that they don’t believe they have a great shot at getting to stay on the Forty Acres. (That’s also a reason you aren’t seeing them pursue Javorski Lane Jr. heavily). *** We’ve talked in the past about the role that Schloss had when it came to landing elite safety Jonah Williams. I’m not going to go in depth on that, but what I can tell you is that Texas expects him to begin practicing with them in just a few months. I’m told the relationship between the football and baseball staffs are excellent and that both are very supportive in making sure Jonah succeeds in both sports. Sark has basically given the green light for Jonah to be all in on baseball this spring while still working with the football team. Williams will start out at pitcher for the Longhorns for the short term. He’s also an outstanding outfielder, so there’s a chance he could play there down the road. *** Here are some quick hitters on fall practice: - Arizona State transfer Ethan Mendoza has looked great at 2nd base. That’s his spot to lose. I expect him to start there this year, but Mendoza would like to possibly play shortstop in the future. - Third base has yet to be settled. Right now it’s a two man race between sophomore Casey Borba and true freshman Adrian Rodriguez. I think it’s too close to tell right now who will start. - Louisiana Monroe transfer Easton Winfield has been described as the “real deal” and Texas loves him. He will be an impact player for the Horns this upcoming season and will start at left field. - Pitching is hard to report on. A lot of those guys pitched a ton this summer, so they’re trying to rest them right now. A lot of arms aren’t throwing at this time. - LSU RHP transfer Aiden Moffett’s issues in the past have been control. He has one hell of an arm, but the control was an area of concern. I’m told he’s definitely improving there, however, and that if he continues with the trajectory he’s on, he will be of major help this season. - Both Ole Miss transfer Grayson Saunier and South Carolina transfer Connor McCreery are expected to contribute this season as well.

Stopped by Lovejoy to see newest Texas commit Daylan McCutcheon in action this morning. McCutcheon looks as smooth as any WR you will find in the state of Texas in his routes. I would argue he would contest any Longhorn in a route competition the moment he steps foot on campus in January for that title as well. McCutcheon is back in Austin this weekend for the Georgia game, his second time on campus in a month (he visited for Miss State). There will be a little snippet with McCutcheon talking his commitment on the recruiting breakdown tomorrow as well. But McCutcheon did say it was an accumulation of Texas succeeding, Texas wanting him and Florida State not living up to what expectations in what he called a leap of faith he took when he committed.

At the end of the day, the Texas Longhorns are 6–0 and the No. 1 team in the country. But let's take a look at how the Longhorns were able to pull off the 34–3 victory over the Oklahoma Sooners. *** 197.7 miles The distance the Golden Hat will travel back to Austin from the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. Had to throw that one in there. *** Defensive Snap Counts Out of 72 possible snaps. 65 – Jahdae Barron 58 – Jaylon Guilbeau 55 – Malik Muhammad 47 – Jelani McDonald 41 – Anthony Hill Jr., Trey Moore, Alfred Collins 38 – Liona Lefau 35 – Michael Taaffe 34 – Barryn Sorrell 32 – Vernon Broughton 29 – Jermayne Lole 27 – Colin Simmons, David Gbenda 24 – Gavin Holmes 22 – Andrew Mukuba, Derek Williams Jr. 18 – Jordon Johnson-Rubell, Kobe Black 17 – Alex January, Colton Vasek 16 – Ethan Burke, Justice Finkley 15 – Bill Norton 12 – Ty'Anthony Smith 6 – Aaron Bryant – A couple surprises with the safety unit, I suppose it leads to Texas not playing as much two-high against a team that could not throw the football. However, Jelani McDonald's 47 snaps were the most he has logged this season. – Colton Vasek's 17 snaps were also the most he has seen this season, a sign that the staff is giving him a longer leash as well. – Shoutout to Liona Lefau for a really impressive game as well. *** Jahdae Barron PFF Grade Texas DB Jahdae Barron has been spectacular this season in coverage, run support and every other facet of the game on the defensive side of the ball. Barron has a PFF grade of 87.3, which is the highest grade of any cornerback in the country with >200 snaps this year. *** Offensive Snap Count Out of 64 offensive snaps on Saturday. 64 – Kelvin Banks, Cam Williams, Hayden Conner, Quinn Ewers, Jake Majors 62 – Gunnar Helm 60 – Matthew Golden 47 – DJ Campbell 36 – Ryan Wingo, DeAndre Moore 33 – Tre Wisner 27 – Jaydon Blue 21 – Juan Davis 19 – Isaiah Bond 17 – Cole Hutson 13 – Silas Bolden 5 – Jerrick Gibson 4 – Ryan Niblett, Johntay Cook *** Within the Game – 50% of Texas' offensive drives resulted in points, one of their lowest outputs of the season. – Oklahoma was 4/15 on third down attempts. – Texas has 11 sacks in the last two games. – Time of Possession: Oklahoma: 32:07 Texas: 27:53

The AP Top 25 comes out in just over an hour, however I wanted to throw out what my ballot would look like after week seven. *** My Top 12 Texas Oregon Penn State Ohio State Georgia Miami (FL) Clemson Alabama Iowa State Tennessee LSU G5: Boise State Next Up: Notre Dame Indiana Texas A&M BYU *** Some takeaways. – 1-2-3 feel pretty locked in. Penn State deserves some credit for their comeback win on the road yesterday. – Ohio State over Georgia feels pretty safe to me. Georgia allowing 31 points to Miss State is gross. – I am not a believer in Miami and won't be a believer in Miami this year. Clemson is the team to beat in the ACC. – Alabama and Tennessee drop a bit for me even after wins. Both teams look very beatable. – Welcome back LSU! Maybe I was completely wrong on them. – College Football needs Ashton Jeanty in the Playoff.

And I feel really, really good about this game for the Longhorns. Without going too deep into the conversation, I will say there is a lot of confidence inside the building right now.

OnTexasFootball is on the road in DFW this week seeing a number of top prospects. After a couple of stops Tuesday, there are three stops planned today. Mansfield High The first stop was Mansfield High 2026 4-star WR Zion Robinson. The 6-4, 185-pound WR put on a show at Texas Elite Camp June 1 earning an offer. Chris Jackson remains in contact with Robinson. He’s a maybe to make a Texas game this season. He’s been on campus at Texas A&M, TCU and OU already this season. His father is the head track and field coach at TCU. This will be a true academic/athletic combination recruitment.

Today marks the first SEC matchup for Texas as a conference member, which is big in its own right. Both @Gerry Hamilton and @CJ Vogel have you covered on the football recruiting front, as Sark and Co. will host prospects this weekend. They aren’t the only ones, however, as both the baseball and women’s basketball staff will use today to their advantage. Baseball: - Texas will host six recruits again this weekend. They’ve hosted a combined 13 over the previous two games, which went very well, and today will be no different. - Don’t be surprised if this results in more commitments after the visit. - Last weekend Schloss and staff hosted 7 total recruits. They already reeled in multiple commitments from that and I’m told they aren’t done with that group yet. The coaches feel really good about where things stand with a handful of those guys. - The entire baseball staff is putting in extra hours between practice and recruiting. It’s basically full throttle right now for everyone, from the head coach all the way down to the support staff. - On a related note, I’m told fall practice is going really well. Women’s Basketball: - By now everyone knows that the nation’s No. 1 recruit, Aaliyah Chavez, is on campus. I’m told that the visit is going GREAT. This isn’t just from the Texas side of things either. A source, who has no irons in the (recruiting) fire, said the Horns are knocking it out of the park. - Chavez’s visit continues today and she will take in the Texas vs. Mississippi State game later this afternoon.

2026 Waco Connally DB Jamarion Vincent will be at the Texas-Georgia game he tells OTF. Why is this significant? Well, it will be the third game of the season Vincent will have made the trip to Austin for and the fourth time since the end of July he has been on campus after he attended the Pool Bash. Texas is in great standing early on, though at the moment, I am not expecting a decision imminent.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is back speaking with media Monday morning ahead of the Oklahoma game this weekend in Dallas. We should be able to get an update on QB Quinn Ewers as well as some other Longhorns who have been dinged up here over the last few weeks. Texas is back to No. 1 in the country this week after Alabama was upset by Vanderbilt.

Texas has extended an offer to 2026 Bolles School (Jacksonville, FL) wide receiver Naeem Burroughs. The 6-foot, 175-pound wide out now holds 28 offers to go along with his 10.6 speed on the track. Burroughs' older brother is currently a wide receiver at Wisconsin.

Important note on Texas 4-star S commit Zelus Hicks One reason Texas isn't heavily pursuing another 2025 safety right now is there is still at least a 50-50 chance Zelus Hicks ends up reclassifying to the 2025 class. OTF would probably put it at a 75% chance he ends up in the 2025 class, as of today. Hicks, 6-1.5 and 190-pounds, committed to the Longhorns September 12. Safeties coach Blake Gideon and area recruiter Tashard Choice led the recruitment of Hicks. Hicks attended the Mississippi State game, and may be back for the Georgia game. The possibility also remains his family moves to the DFW area in the future.

A couple of nuggets on the running back room as Texas officially enters its bye week today. Reminder, there is no practice Friday morning or this weekend. *** – I am told Jaydon Blue has had a strong week of practice so far. The two fumbles suffered against Mississippi State have left him committed to bouncing back in a big way against Oklahoma in Dallas. Blue doesn't lack for confidence and right now is chomping at the bit to get the ball back in his hands in a meaningful game. – RB Jerrick Gibson is expected to be as close to full strength against Oklahoma as he has been all season long. The freshman back has been dealing with a lingering ankle, however after just four touches a week ago and the bye week, the former IMG Academy running back is expected to return to his healthiest form since the season opener. – Grad transfer RB Velton Gardner was inactive a week ago due to injury in what had become a pretty surprising development. I was told the injury was a cut above the eye that left Gardner sidelined last weekend. I would consider him questionable at the moment – have yet to hear a definitive update on him just yet. – RB Colin Page is recovering well, though I have yet to hear what his status will be for Oklahoma. Regardless, health is slowing returning to the Texas running back room.

Texas assistants Tashard Choice, Kenny Baker and Kyle Flood are on the way to Atlanta for some Friday recruiting. Sark in Houston Friday (from previous post) Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian will have a busy day in the Houston area Friday. He’s going to be flying around town in a helicopter. Stops for sure include: Galveston Ball to see 5-star safety commit Jonah Williams. 12:30 will be Hitchcock High to see Texas A&M 4-star+ WR commit Kelshaun Johnson, and check in on Nebraska DL commit Malcolm Simpson. Those two stops will be with area recruiter Blake Gideon. He will then head to Hastings with Jeff Banks to see 4-star++ EDGE commit Smith Orogbo. Orogbo has knee surgery next Wednesday that will likely keep him out of spring practice. He will be ready to in the summer/August. Sark and Banks also scheduled to be at Dekaney High to see 4-star++ commit Nick Townsend. Texas also continues to look at 4-star USC pledge Tanook Hines. There will also likely be one more stop. Cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph is also expected to be moving around Houston. Commitment Caleb Chester and other targets.

OTF on the road: Wednesday recruiting notes OnTexasFootball made a trio of school stops Wednesday in the Houston area. We will hit on two of those stops. Dekaney High OTF attended practice at Dekaney High in Houston/Spring. OnTexasFootball is very close to ranking Nicolas Townsend a 5-star prospect. The 6-3.25, 232 pound Texas commitment is arguably the most versatile football player in the country. He's a top 50 level prospect at TE or OLB. His combination of athleticism, football intelligence, physicality and ball skills is truly elite. How many positions has Townsend lined up at this season? Short snapper, long snapper, punt return team, kickoff return team, tight end, outside receiver, running back, wildcat quarterback, MIKE backer and outside linebacker. Townsend will attend the Georgia game October 19. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and Jeff Banks are scheduled to be by Dekaney High's game Friday vs. Westfield. Texas invited USC WR/ATH commit and OnTexasFootball 4-star Tanook Hines to a game this season. The Horns continue to take a senior look at a number of prospects, and Hines is one of those. Ole Miss, Texas A&M and others continue to try and recruit Hines. Word around Dekaney High is Texas is the one school that could make a big move with a push. Hastings High OneTexasFootball 4-star++ EDGE and #Hookem commit Smith Orogbo was off to a tremendous start this season before a knee injury cut his season short. The injury is considered something he was born with vs. a ligament injury on the field. Per Smith, he doesn't have ligament damage. Smith is choosing to have surgery (next Wednesday) now and get ready for the summer at Texas vs. trying to play through the pain this season, and not have surgery until he reports to Texas in January. Orogbo, 6-3.25 and 214 pounds, is scheduled to receive a visit from Steve Sarkisian and Jeff Banks Friday.
