OTF Premium Five-Star 2025 WR Update (Tuesday AM)
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
Texas has three wide receivers committed in the 2025 class at the moment, three really good wide receivers at that. However, I received word that the Longhorns are continuing to work on Oregon commit Dakorien Moore. A flip of the Ducks WR commit would be difficult and I am told it would be rather unlikely, however, it is worth mentioning that the phone is still being picked up for now. Moore committed to Oregon on July 4 and has been firm since then. Right now, this just remains something to monitor.- 55 replies

Texas 4-star++ commit Jaime Ffrench (Jacksonville/Mandarin) will be making an official visit to Florida this weekend. Ffrench told the Texas staff about it prior to it getting out publicly. OTF considers this a free trip to go with LSU at Florida along with his high school quarterback and FSU commit Tramell Jones Jr., who Florida has been pursuing. I spoke with a source close to Ffrench earlier today as well. The source said Miami was the only school that would be a threat to Texas, but Ffrench has remained solid with the Horns.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is on the podium to discuss the Longhorns' victory over Florida and to also look ahead to Arkansas this weekend in Fayetteville. Texas is currently the No. 3 team in the country with three games remaining in the regular season. Notes and quotes in the comments below.

Lorena (Texas) High 2025 DL and Baylor pledge Jackson Blackwell tells OnTexasFootball he plans to attend the game Saturday with his family. This is the second Texas game he will attend this season, and is a prospect the Horns staff continues to evaluate.

Tramon Mark Injury Update Texas transfer guard Tramon Mark is expected to be out at until the Longhorns play in New York November 21 due to an ankle injury suffered prior to the Colorado closed door scrimmage October 26. That would mean the 6-5 guard would miss the next three games vs. Houston Christian, Chicago State and Mississippi Valley State. Mark missed the Longhorns season opener, an 80-72 loss to Ohio State in Las Vegas.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian provided an update on some injuries during the SEC Teleconference Wednesday morning. Sarkisian says WR Isaiah Bond and DB Andrew Mukuba "have both had a good week so far." Also, RB Velton Gardner will miss the remainder of the season with an eye injury he suffered in practice earlier in the season. The SEC Availability Report will release town around 7:00 p.m. CST. We will see how the Longhorns shake out on their designations, right now I would list both Mukuba and Bond as questionable.

An updated look at the points per possession graph in the SEC via BCFToys.com. Texas ranks 1st in the country in points per possession allowed defensively (1.01) and 12th in the country on offense, scoring 3.13 points per offensive possession. – Oklahoma has the worst offense in the conference. – Mississippi State has far and away the worst defense in the conference, and the entire country for that matter. – Four teams on the Texas schedule include Florida, Arkansas, Kentucky and Texas A&M. – Ole Miss losing to Kentucky looks all sorts of improbable then and inexcusable now. – Vanderbilt sneaky up the charts as well. Can't believe they lost to Georgia State. – Tennessee's offense has fallen quickly down to earth. The Vols are averaging just 22.8 PPD in SEC play this year, without scoring 30 points once. Yuck.

2026 Temple CB Jason Bradford tells OTF that he is a maybe to visit this weekend vs. Florida. Bradford has been one to monitor over the last couple of months dating back to the spring. Texas cornerbacks coach Terry Joseph has yet to show a lot of interest, however the Texas recruiting department has remaining in brief contact. Bradford was last on campus June 1 for the Elite Camp where sources indicated to me he performed well in front of the Texas staff. The 6-foot, 3-inch cornerback out of Temple, Texas holds seven offers so far – Arizona State, Houston, Oklahoma State, Texas State, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt and Lamar.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is back in front of the microphone today for his weekly press conference. The Longhorns will host Florida this weekend as they return from their second, and final, bye week of the season. Florida lost to Georgia in Jacksonville over the weekend, but most importantly, might have lost their starting quarterback, DJ Lagway, for the season due to injury. Notes and quotes in the comments down below.

That meeting on November 30 in College Station is going to be very difficult for the Longhorns. The world watched last night as Texas A&M disappeared in the second half and fell short in Columbia by the score of 44–20. Remember, that was a tied game at halftime, then the Gamecocks flipped a switch and dominated the final two quarters. But as I was watching that game, I couldn't help but find ways to compare what I was seeing with Texas A&M on the field to what that will look like against Texas later on this season. There were a few key points that I saw that lead me to believe that matchup for the Longhorns is pretty unfavorable at the moment. First, Texas A&M's pass rush is legit. Quinn Ewers has his strengths. But that does not include sack evasion and pocket mobility. We have been critical this season in wanting to see him do more when under duress in the pocket. Texas A&M did not sack LaNorris Sellers on Saturday, but they accumulated 21 pressures and made life extremely difficult in straight drop back sets. Sellers a really talented quarterback. At 6-feet-3-inches and 240 pounds, he is a handful to bring down and that played into his advantage all evening. The Gamecock quarterback took off 15 times with the ball on Saturday. Of those 15 rush attempts, eight were scrambles and seven were designed QB runs. Sellers accounted for 106 yards on the ground as well, 50 of which coming after contact. That won't be a p art of the Texas offense. Now, Texas has a better offensive line. Well, at least they should. But the point remains, Texas won't have the luxury that Sellers brought to the Gamecock offense on Saturday. Next, I think it is great that the Longhorns get to play Arkansas prior to the Aggies. For a few reasons, one going on the road for a little taste of the hostility will be good for the Longhorns. But more importantly, the play at quarterback will almost mirror that of Marcel Reed exactly. Texas has done great at containing mobile quarterbacks under Pete Kwiatkowski. Whether Texas faces Taylen Green or Malachi Singleton, the threat of the running quarterback remains. This is a great appetizer for Marcel Reed in my eyes. Containment will be key and keeping 22 eyes on the quarterback will be essential. Really important the Longhorns play well in Fayetteville in that regard. But on a real positive note. The Texas A&M offense is not special. It's truly not. Texas A&M does not have a game-changing quarterback and their weapons are average at best. Their wide receivers don't create separation, the Aggies don't have an impact tight end and now Le'Veon Moss, unfortunately, might be done for the year. South Carolina has a tremendous edge rushing tandem and were able to create 21 pressures of their own – nine of those came from true freshman EDGE Dylan Stewart. But the point is the offense struggles. How will Texas A&M find explosive plays outside of the off script QB run game against Texas? I don't know.

The five teams with one loss are Georgia, Texas, Texas A&M, Tennessee and LSU. Four of the contenders play each other later in the month, but there are still tough games before the head-to-head battles to get to Atlanta take place. OnTexasFootball provides a run down of the five teams schedules to start the week. OTF Premium Redshirt Tracker Heading into 2nd Bye Week
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
A quick update to the 2024 redshirt tracker for the freshman class. – DB Jordon Johnson-Rubell saw four snaps on special teams and his redshirt was burned as a result this weekend. – No other surprises at the moment. – The official stat sheet had Jordan Washington having played in this game but accredited him with a QB Hurry. I am checking on this now, but after a rewatch, I did not see No. 84 on the field on Saturday, preserving his redshirt status. -
Texas heads into a bye where they look to get Andrew Mukuba back for the Florida game when the calendar flips to November. With that said, a look at the snap counts for the Longhorns from their 27–24 victory over Vanderbilt. *** Defense Out of 66 possible snaps. 66 – Jelani McDonald, Malik Muhammad, Anthony Hill Jr., Michael Taaffe 63 – Jahdae Barron 47 – Trey Moore 44 – Jaylon Guilbeau, Barryn Sorrell, Alfred Collins 43 – Liona Lefau 41 – Vernon Broughton 39 – Jermayne Lole 25 – Colin Simmons, Ethan Burke 14 – David Gbenda 9 – Kobe Black, Bill Norton 8 – Mo Blackwell Jr. 2 – Alex January, Warren Roberson 1 – Colton Vasek, Gavin Holmes – Surprisingly no Jordon Johnson-Rubell in this game. – The snap share for Lefau and Gbenda are pretty telling. The change has been made, it is Lefau's spot fully. – Nine snaps for Kobe Black. He played really well in those snaps – he was targeted three times. – Going to be interesting to see how the snaps from Vernon Broughton are split up in the 1H during his suspension. My guess is mostly to Lole, then Norton and maybe some January. *** Offense Out of 73 possible snaps. 73 – Cam Williams, Kelvin Banks, Gunnar Helm, Hayden Conner, Jake Majors, Quinn Ewers 71 – Matthew Golden 65 – DJ Campbell 56 – Ryan Wingo 43 – Tre Wisner 40 – DeAndre Moore 30 – Jaydon Blue 21 – Juan Davis 19 – Silas Bolden 10 – Amari Niblack 8 – Cole Hutson 1 – Jerrick Gibson, Ryan Niblett – The first snaps for Amari Niblack since the UTSA game on week three. He had two receptions in ten snaps. – No Gibson, no Niblett this weekend basically. – This is the second straight game where Gunnar Helm has been on the field for every snap.

OTF Premium Immediate Reactions | Texas vs. Vanderbilt
CJ Vogel posted a topic in On Texas Football Forum
The first true road game of the SEC era for the Texas Longhorns comes in a game where the Longhorn faithful completely fill the away stands. Nothing hostile about this game, that’s for sure. 1st Quarter: Texas gets the ball, but doesn’t do anything to help itself in terms of field position. Holding forced the Longhorns to start on their own 7-yard line. It took all three plays to gain 10 yards and an inch for the first down. Texas is running more on this first drive already than at any point this season. Oh man. A batted pass is intercepted and the Longhorns are giving Vandy a tremendous start to the game. This is absolutely not what Ewers needed to begin this game. The keys to this game are field position and time of possession. Texas is already losing that battle about four minutes into the game. Vandy doing Vandy things on their first drive. Creative rush attempts, jet motion, full house. Diego Pavia just out-athleted Jaylon Guilbeau to the edge and finds the end zone on a heck of a play. The Longhorns are continuing to do themselves no favors early on in these games. It’s an issue. Vandy 7–0. Texas stubbed its two on first down again. Missed block by Golden. But man, what a play from Tre Wisner to haul in that pass and make a couple of guys miss for a much needed first down and explosive play. Sarkisian is not tasking Quinn with many throws vertically. Everything has been a screen or a bubble at this point following the INT. What a catch by Matthew Golden! That was tremendous and the Longhorns answered very, very well to tie the game at 7 after a horrid start. How about that! Nice 3-and-out for the Texas defense after Vandy tried to get tricky on 4th down. An illegal formation helps the Longhorn D in that regard. Huge for the Longhorns to get the ball back there. Silas Bolden almost got loose again. Stop me if you have heard that before. Nice return. Longhorns are back to midfield. Texas is cruising offensively. What a throw to DeAndre Moore from Ewers and what a route win and catch from Moore. Huge play on third down, love the call from Sarkisian as well. Texas is up 14-7 after 1Q. Ewers has completed 12 consecutive passes since the INT. He eclipsed 125 passing yards in the first frame as well. The offense is still short, but it’s working and the deep/intermediate throws are growing at the moment. It took eight games, but we finally have an Amari Niblack sighting for the Texas Longhorns! Two receptions for 22 yards, including a 20-yarder. The Texas defense has come to play. Vandy has been able to get a couple of first downs on drives, but nothing significant and no chunk plays. Ewers is lighting it up statistically. A sack kills the drive, but he is in a groove. Penalties definitely hurt the Longhorns on that drive there as well. Self-inflicted. What a play by DeAndre Moore as a gunner to down Vandy at the one! Haven’t seen that in special teams all too much this year. Hello Trey Moore! Key play on a tricky third down forces a punt. Big play there for the UTSA transfer. Quinn Ewers definitely heard everything said these past two weeks and has answered in a big way. Ewers has been tremendous and just found his third touchdown of the day to DeAndre Moore, his second. I love the way this Texas defense plays football. They fly to the ball and continue to hustle. A freakish play gets Pavia his biggest gain, but it's called back to holding. Michael Taaffe should be a fan favorite and it shouldn’t be a debate. A huge forced fumble there gives Texas a chance to score before halftime. Taaffe and McDonald have been tremendous today for Texas, no drop off at safety despite two starting caliber guys out this afternoon. Halftime: Texas leads 21–10 *** 3rd Quarter Big test for defense to not allow Vandy the chance to double up after getting 3 before half. Vandy will have to go 75+ for a score. The running game is alive for the Texas offense. Tre Wisner has gotten loose on three consecutive rush attempts in the third quarter. Love the complementary approach from the offense here, needs to hold up moving forward. A sack bumps Ewers back and a drop leaves Texas in a field goal position. Auburn drills it and the Longhorns are back up two TD. Now, back to the defense. Kobe Black! Big PBU to force an incompletion and punt. Barron got some run at safety there. Man, I don’t know what to say, maybe Ewers is just incredibly unlucky? But another batted ball is picked off and Vandy gets great field position again. Jahdae Barron with a PBU of his own! Thorpe resume continues to improve. Jermayne Lole has been really, really good today. Second or third straight week I can say that about his play. I have no clue how Pavia fit that ball in for a touchdown on fourth down. Jelani looked to be in a good spot for a deflection as was the case for about three other Longhorn defenders. Regardless, a one score game again, the case for about three other Longhorns. Texas offense has hit a second half wall. Only 2.22 yards per snap for the Texas offense over the last three drives. Need another defensive stop. When Texas needs momentum, it’s the defense that provides it. It’s been the case for a long while now and it shouldn’t have to be. Longhorns have shot themselves in the foot all day with penalties and sacks. It’s been a disaster in the 2H. Liona Lefau gets the pick! Barryn Sorrell gets the pressure! Massive play for Texas. Put the game away. Jaydon Blue! Finally. Texas down to the five. Now punch it in and end this game. Texas doesn’t do anything with the first and goal. Field goal. 27–17 Such a bad, dumb play from Vernon Broughton there. He will be out of the Florida game for the 1st half. -
Two recruiting notes Texas 5-star safety commitment Jonah Williams (Galveston, Texas/Ball) was injured in his last game. According to a family source, the 6-3, 205-pound safety prospect suffered a minor fracture to his clavicle. Initially, it was feared he had a collarbone injury. Obviously, that will impact the remainder of the Ball High season. OnTexasFootball spoke with 4-star++ DL commit Myron Charles (Port Charlotte, Fla./High) an hour ago. Charles informed OTF that he did not attend the FSU at Miami game Saturday.
