OTF Premium Reshuffling on the OL (Monday 1:50 p.m.)
closetojumping replied to CJ Vogel's topic in On Texas Football Forum
I don't know why you quoted me here. -I've never been a big fan of the portal for OL help. There is not a post of mine on the Internet since Sarkisian's arrival where I've stated that Texas should go big in the portal. -I liked the Goosby take at the time due to his athleticism and the fact that that class was going to have trouble landing a 5 star OT with Banks already starting as a freshman. -I don't think I've ever typed the name "Pregnon" on this site until right now. Texas kicked the tires on him but Oregon was willing to pay starter money and it didn't make a lot of sense for Texas to do anything there. Portal talk about the OL is all hindsight nonsense. Flood doesn't want to build via patchwork from random G5s, FCS and P4 backups. There aren't a ton of good starting OL in the portal and those that are there cost an arm and a leg. If folks want to level a criticism at Flood, it's not taking enough OLs in the past few cycles. I'm not one of those people saying that, but I understand the logic coming from folks. I'm not some boogieman here, wishing ill will on the program or running down coaches. You guys think you sense a whiff of criticism at a coach or staff and y'all lose your minds. It's absurd. In any event, I got my question answered, if not from the original guy here with the story. Goosby's injury is something to watch for the OSU game. Can he play through the pain and then heal up before UF? Or is there going to be patchwork without him? Either way, it's not nothing and he could very well miss a lot more time than "the next few practices". -

You probably also thought Goosby was a loser who was just backing up Banks and we should have gone out to the portal to have an experienced back behind him. Oh and btw Goosby also played RT and could have come in at guard because there is this little thing Flood does in practice called cross training. You also have most likely not considered that Flood is putting Neto in the spot to understand "if" he can play LT in an emergency situation. That is what practice is for. If he had to go to his 4th Tackle option during a game, should it be Neto or one of the freshmen? Tackles: Goosby, Baker, Brooks, Neto/Chatman? You are probably correct in hindsight about getting Pregnon. I don't know if he was really an option or not. At the time, I'm assuming the staff was prioritizing other players and were comfortable with the depth we had. -
Norman, OK — Oklahoma is offering fans a chance to attend postgame press conferences, but it won’t be cheap. It’s one of the “Sooner Magic Memories” offerings the program has created to give fans greater access this season. The cost for two people to sit in on the media session after the Oklahoma-Michigan nonconference showdown on September 6 is $692.11. For the Southeastern Conference home opener September 20 against Auburn, it’s $576.86. “Get exclusive postgame media access for you and one guest and see where real-time reactions unfold,” the advertisement says. “Hear OU coaches and players address reporters moments after the final whistle. Watch the story take shape through the questions, the insights, and the atmosphere that set the headlines.” The Michigan and Auburn numbers might seem steep, but the cost for the Illinois State season opener on August 30 is $461.61 – and it’s already sold out. Other offerings include pregame photos on the 50-yard line, a high five tunnel, game ball delivery and halftime field access. Athletic departments across the country are looking for new revenue sources as the cost of fielding teams and attracting top talent rises in the NIL era. The House settlement that took effect July 1 allows each participating school to share up to $20.5 million in revenue directly with their athletes even as more than $2.5 billion is paid back to current and former athletes who sued over restrictions on their ability to earn compensation.

Ohio St. names Sayin as starter
LovingBuckeye replied to Adam Lane's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Yeah, I think it’s best that we just agree to disagree. I’ve read every practice report for the past two years, listened to nearly every Ohio State podcast and watched every snap Baker took in the NFL preseason and regular season. I’m not sure where this reputation of Baker being athletic is coming from. -

He also frequently shares articles from here on Surly Horns. I’m surprised you guys allow this. Do mods look the other way because he has affluence and influence? He’s been doing this for years. -

On an 85 man all time Texas roster, say there are 4 QBs. Say VY, Colt, and Layne are 3 of them. Is a #11 the fourth? If you want to stack QBs on that roster, name 4 and 5, (and 6?) -
I’ve watched as much Sayin tape as you. And I’ve unfortunately seen a ton of baker. I guess we can agree to disagree

Question for today’s show: @Bobby Burton, I caught your appearance on the Buckeye Scoop show yesterday evening. Is it just me, or do those guys seem a little delusional with their prognosis for the performance of OSU’s various position groups in 2025 compared to 2024? Dev and Melo think they have upgraded at multiple position groups since last year. Yet they didn’t mention any downgrades. OSU won the national championship last year and subsequently lost 14 dudes to the NFL, not to mention the turnover at both coordinator jobs. I don’t see how it’s possible they have a better team/performance in 2025 than in 2024. Also, I thought it was interesting they didn’t mention Sayin much at all, yet they devoted a whole segment to Arch. Thoughts? -

Duke Carlisle is where the list starts. Quarterback of the 1963 National Championship. Also intercepted a pass in the end zone against Baylor to secure the victory. Hook’em Duke. -

Tough choice. All were good, DJ was great, Applewhite is under appreciated, and Ehlinger was fun to watch.
