Two structural changes have really hurt NBA basketball: the three point shot and the elimination of the requirement to play man defense. It was the second change that made the first a real problem. As soon as you didn't have to play man, it drastically curtailed post play and the mid-range game. Since then, "efficiency" numbers say it's better to shoot threes and avoid big guys who can dominate one on one in the post because they're too slow to contest threes. The numbers the analytics idiots need to look at are attendance and viewership. What they call "efficiency" may be up, but fan interest is down. Turns out it's boring to watch a 2.5 hour three point fest about a hundred times a year.

I agree with this. Watching players just jack up threes is boring basketball.

NBA viewership and overall market share within major professional sports has been declining for years. That has more to do with the product on the court than coaches and players talking.

Good point lol. I was a student at the time and had a mutual friend with Banks and got to hang out with him a few times. Needless to say he was pretty mad about that. Side note, Banks told me we were getting Matt Coleman, Mo Bamba, and Brian Bowen (who was his high school teammate) in that class. Should’ve been 3 for 3.

Very good in state RB prospect, but the staff has prioritized KJ Edwards, Derrek Cooper, Amari Latimer, and Ezavier Crowell over him in the last few months. Texas will get the two RBs they want by December early signing day. Good luck to him, unless he’s playing Texas.

Actually, in that game after Bamba and Sims fouled out it was Shaka's "brilliance" that decided to guard the 6'9 and #2 pick Marvin Bagley with 6'2 Eric Davis instead of 6'10 future ACC Defensive player of the Year James Banks on the bench.

AUSTIN, Texas – Saturday's 12-3 Texas win over Kentucky will be remembered for more than just the Longhorns' 45th overall win and 22nd at Red & Charline McCombs Field this season. It'll forever be remembered as the day senior Mia Scott played all nine positions on the field in a single game. Scott, who appeared in and started her 241st career game on Saturday, was initially penned into Texas' starting lineup as the team's starting third baseman. But, once the Longhorns grabbed a 3-0 lead after the first full inning, the UT coaching staff began to look at the lineup card and wonder what they could do for their fourth-year senior. Three batters into the top of the second, Scott shifted over to shortstop from third base and the run was on. After Texas scored seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the second to take a 10-0 lead in the game, Scott jogged out to second base to begin the top of the third. After the first two outs, Texas softball head coach Mike White came out of the bullpen and rearranged his infield and moved Scott to first base for her fourth different defensive position over the course of the game's first three innings. With a 12-1 Texas lead to start the fourth inning, Scott shifted around all three outfield positions after every out in order to beat the forthcoming five-inning run-rule result and push her defensive position total to seven in four frames. With all 1,355 around the stadium knowing what was happening as the game entered the top of the fifth, Scott was the last defensive Longhorn to take the field as she was putting on the catcher's equipment and went behind the dish as fellow senior Sophia Simpson was in the circle. After Simpson struck out the first Wildcat batter of the inning, White, again, went out to the umpire to not only give Simpson a curtain call in front of the Texas faithful but also move Scott from behind the plate to the pitching circle to mark the ninth different position played for the Angleton, Texas native. It took Scott just four pitches to get the second out of the fifth inning, before giving way to Citlaly Gutierrez, who got the final out of the frame and conclude Saturday's action. FROM HEAD COACH MIKE WHITE "I actually got talked into doing all that with Mia as we were in the field. They plan this stuff and spring it upon me at the last minute and that's kind of what they did. So, we went with it and had to finish it. But what we have to be thankful for is (Kentucky head coach Rachel) Lawson for understanding what the situation was and going along with it. She's a first-class coach and a first-class person. There are some people who would be on the wrong side of that, so I appreciate her for wanting to be a part of what happened." GAME NOTES With her four-pitch walk in the bottom of the first, Mia Scott became just the fifth student-athlete in program history to earn 100-or-more career walks and the first since Devon Tunning surpassed the century mark during the 2017 season. As a result of her five-pitch walk in the bottom of the second, Katie Stewart became just the second student-athlete in program history to drive in 70-or-more runs during a single season as the sophomore finished Saturday's contest with 70 RBI. Saturday's win marked the 100th home victory for the Longhorns' fourth-year seniors. UP NEXT With the regular season slate now in the rear-view mirror, Texas (45-9, 16-8) will turn its focus to the 2025 SEC Softball Tournament that begins on Tuesday, May 6 at Jack Turner Softball Stadium in Athens, Ga.
