NIL may make it easier. Pitching and hitting both need live, game reps. Those are limited. Many teams only start 9/10 capable guys then only run 11/12 deep for guys that actually hit. Pitching is similar in that maybe 10-12 guys get decent innings. With the portal for baseball players there’s less incentive to sit as a frosh. It’s too easy to transfer and too important to sit a year. At least with NIL, you can theoretically pay guys for the opportunity to maybe crack the lineup. Otherwise, it’s difficult to keep them riding the pine to develop.

Hi Hank, Any chance you, CJ, Gerry and Bobby (or some combo thereof) could give us YOUR mock draft predictions for the Longhorns eligible to be drafted? The actual slot (not just round) the 6 - 8 guys assumed to be selected this year? I see the top six on almost every draft board, then Burke and Guilbeau are the two that are iffy on most boards. CJ did that last year and he nailed eight of them pretty closely (within half a round), was way too optimistic on the same two everyone else missed on (Quinn and Cam Williams) and was too pessimistic on Vernon Broughton (like most everyone else). But overall he did well. What do you say? Up for the challenge? The OTF staffer who comes closest wins the coveted Mel Kiper 2026 Award.

It's always hard to judge much in this game because it's ball hog city but Crittenden looked good tonight. She was making a lot of good basketball plays and can hit 3s. Bjorn is as active and athletic as advertised. Spaight's pretty quick on offense but defense might be a problem for her since she's small height wise and in stature. She was getting owned on defense. But I can see Crittenden and Bjorn playing right away with Spaight's as a 2nd or 3rd PG. Preston's going to have to make a big leap next year taking over the reigns for Rori or else PG will be a concern next year.
