  1. Past hour
  2. Fellas, this will be a great thread for this year. Thanks, Dr. W!
  3. There have been multiple times where a breaking route down the field comes open where Arch is already checking down to a RB in the flats. That to me is his internal clock telling him he is under pressure when he is not. In translation, that means he does not trust his offensive line... yet.
  4. FWIW his sack avoidance number, according to PFF, this season is far superior to Quinn’s number.
  5. Sayin wasn't asked to do anything in the pass game. It worked because we made enough mistakes to give them a TD. On the offensive side, it took Arch a while to settle in. I don't think there's anything to extrapolate beyond that.
  6. Is two weeks of commercials during every game not enough? Now I have to deal with Cody Campbell propaganda on OTF? yuck.
  7. He’s trying. But first congress has to vote down the Score Act.
  8. 1. Campbell may be many things, but he’s not a hack. His only goal may even well be getting Texas Tech on an even playing field with Texas. I can’t discern his true goals, etc. But I can decidedly tell you he’s not a hack. The conversation we had was informative. He knew numbers, reasons, etc., and it wasn’t the sound of a hack. 2. I too worry about Texas after Eltife. It’s the chief reason why I asked Governor Abbott about how he elects/chooses the BoR.
  9. Fall Sports Recaps and Previews The Fall sports season is well underway with competition officially starting about 1 month ago in women's soccer. The Texas Longhorns compete in 5 Fall sports - Football, W Soccer, Volleyball and M&W Cross Country. I'll use these next few posts to look back at the previous seasons for each sport, the outlook for this upcoming season and get caught up on results that have already occurred. Football has plenty of coverage elsewhere and I will not touch on it here. So let's get started! Womens Soccer The Longhorns started competing in Women's Soccer in 1994 and over these 32 seasons the team has made 14 NCAA tournament appearances with a high water mark of the sweet 16 on 5 occassions. The team has won 2 regular season conference championships (2001 and 2022 - Big 12) and 4 conference tournaments championships (2006, 2007, 2023 - Big 12, 2024 SEC). The team has enjoyed a really strong stretch over the last 3 seasons and this should come as no surprise as the hands down best player in Texas Soccer history, Lexi Missimo, was on campus during this time. Along with the very talented Trinity Byars and strong defensive efforts from Emj Cox and Goalkeeper Mia Justus this team had a very strong core of athletes on both sides of the field. Unfortunately injuries to Byars to Cox last year limited this ceiling of this team and ultimately lead to a round of 32 exit in the NCAA tournament. The story of the 24-25 season will be written based on how the team can replace this experienced core of players. Emj Cox has recovered from her injury and has been back on the field this season but early results show she may not be as effective in her role as she was prior to the injury. Last year's injury to Trinity Byars opened a striker spot and super freshmen Amalia Villareal did a great job stepping in to fill the void. Amalia scored 9 goals and assisted on 8 others on her way to winning the SEC freshmen of the year. Through 7 games this season she leads the team with 3 goals and has contributed 2 assists as well. Her scoring counterpart thus far has been freshmen Ava McDonald who has also netted 3 goals this season. Having completed the non-conference slate at 2-4-1, this team has shown some apparent struggles in reloading their roster. Outside of Villarreal and McDonald's 6 goals, only 5 goals have been scored by 4 other players. The team has scored 11 total goals while surrendering 14. The defense has allowed opposing teams to create a lot of opportunities and our Freshmen Goalkeeper, Mateya Dessieux, has not been able to clean up enough of the mistakes. The teams 2 wins on the year have come against Long Beach State and the College of Charleston. 3 Losses have come against big 12 foes (TCU, Baylor, Houston) and the worst of the losses was against Northwestern State. In summary, this team had a lot of holes to fill coming into the season and it does not seem like this squad has been able to do that successfully. Could a relatively young team continue to find improvement over the season? Yes, and that is the hope. The SEC conference is not incredibly strong in soccer but does have 6 teams in the top 25 with 2 others receiving votes. Texas started in the top 25 but would need to drastically improve results to find themselves back amongst the ranked teams. Finishing in the top half of the SEC seems to be unlikely this season, as does making the NCAA tournament. Paging @Amanda Atwell to add her soccer expertise! Director's Cup Spin: Women's Soccer is now one of the 5 required sports for the Director's Cup. Missing the tournament would guarantee a score of 0 being included in the final tally for Texas. Making the field of 64 secures 25 points with each successive round increasing the points to 50, 64, 73, 83, 90 and 100.
  10. IMO he’s already really good in the pocket and navigating it, so much so that he’s making the OL appear better than they are. His problems are he’s not understanding the concepts and routes as well as he should with a defense that is being called to stop him. So he’s throwing late due to that and when he throws late he doesn’t use proper mechanics and getting his feet in the right direction needed. He needs to understand the offense better within the scope of the game with his reads and knowing where receivers need to be vs what he’s seeing on defense
  11. It's true when you say the pocket technique will continue to improve with comfort in the pocket, we have data to support that theory, with the 4th quarter of the OSU game being night and day from the 1st three. I read reports from Buckeye insiders that in order to get Sayin ready for Texas, they went live with him for a couple of practices. It's risky, but do you think that is something Sark would try? It worked, because Sayin never looked rattled, and managed the game well enough to win.
  12. I believe @Bobby Burton was there too!
  13. I'm not seeing the lack of speed or read problems others are talking about. Every young QB has that from time to time. Best I could tell, Arch had three or four misreads and a couple of late throws. That's not a problem at this point.
  14. I’m starting to think you don’t get enough attention under your own roof.
  15. Sweat and Simmons on the same defensive line is damn near a cheat code. 🤘🏿
  16. Fundamentals for Arch will improve the more he feels comfortable in the pocket. That was the case from week 1 to week 2, like @harveycmd mentioned. Arch was definitely rattled on the road against Ohio State, and again, I will die by the assertion that he was expecting a Georgia-like front seven with constant pressure which just never came. Fundamentals for Arch will never be pure, that's what comes with his mobility and arm strength. He can get away with a lot due to the arm talent. But the pocket technique is whe you will continue to see improvement as long as he is feeling comfortable in the pocket. It will take steps forward each week of the season.
  17. But that's just it, or at least in my opinion, the game speed was much slower because of the competition and less complex defense. I'm not worried about his mechanics, he's a Manning, I think speeding up his processing will "fix" his mechanics.
  18. The entire history of cfb has been about few teams that can truly compete no matter the format pre and post nil era. You fools claiming this needs to be fixed is laughable. Especially considering the huge advantage Texas currently has in this landscape. But I suppose we can make everything level and even so that bag game can come back and we are not at a competitive advantage.
  19. Arch improved his mechanics dramatically from week one to week two. In his extended action last year, he was fundamentally sound. The worry seems to be that he hasn't just rolled out there and looked great consistently.
  20. Bobby Thank you for the well written description of what is happening. I think Campbell is right. Trying to label what he is doing as socialism or self serving is silly and fallacious. These are economic facts and the way NFL teams have for years financed their stadiums is worse than socialism—it is funneling money from taxpayers into the owner’s pockets with no return to the local citizens other than made up economic impact statements. College Football has to be fixed now or It will be a race to the bottom until there are only a few teams that can truly compete for media money. Taking the short view of things for self interest is going to kill college athletics.
  21. Lol it's an open discussion, football is my passion, I don't know more than anyone else but we all don't see it the same. The more opinions or people who engage in the conversation, the better. The reason I asked the mods, is because they talk to insiders or have seen a portion of practice. If we can see the issue, I'm sure Sark and staff can see it too. I wanted to know what are they doing to speed up his feet and eyes.
  22. Wouldn’t this require an act of congress? Is there any momentum in congress to do anything or is this all moot?
  23. I have zero trust in him. That entire fanbase imo is the most unhinged irrational fanbase in college sports. SEC + Beard sent them into lala land. I think he's a wealthy hack. I'm convinced his only goal is getting Tech into the same conference with us. Their life revolves around us. In the end I don't care. With current leadership we'll be fine under whatever model there is. My chief worry is what happens when Eltife's term runs out. CDC and Hartzell/Davis have been fine. But Eltife is running the show and he's run it damn well.
  24. Not a mod but my two cents. The staff limited some of Quinns footwork/mobility limitations by having him in pistol or gun a lot and playing to his strengths with rpo's, quick passes and motioning the rb into and out of the backfield to identify coverages. They utilized his short and intermediate passing to get playmakers the ball in a position to run. Short anticipatory throws became Quinns best asset. Arch improved in game 2 but is still having issues with his feet as he's spreading too far at times and rather than gathering and driving the ball he's throwing off balance causing inaccuracy. I personally think it's just adjusting to game speed, timing and getting experience. Some of the bad mechanics like you said were due to late recognition and then rushing to make up for what he saw late. Even his touchdown to Endries in the seam was a little bit late, thankfully it was the parting of the red sea. All in all I think Arch is going to improve at an incredibly fast rate as the season goes on, just needs to keep gaining rapport with his guys and getting more reps. He seems to be a slow starter that once he adjusts to the speed does great. Hopefully he can come out of the gates firing more often the rest of the year.
