Kavian Bryant’s next Texas visit
Glass Joe replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
@Gerry Hamilton do you think Bryant’s circle / agents want him to follow in the class after Dia Bell? Or does a path to playing time not matter as much here? -
Great points. 1. First time for all four D-line as starters, so hopefully we improve our run D before that game. As for abandoning the run, I did not see Texas do that until they were down 14. I think we were happy to play everything in front and not give up a big play. Penn State will be a problem, I also see a lot of growth for us on the offensive side of the ball leading into that game. Yes, in my opinion Texas run D is that good!!!

Bama fans do like Sark, but it's not financially doable. Can't see him wanting to go either. They could get Gruden, but it would be risky and really expensive. -

Didn’t they try to get sark before they settled for deboer? I remember sark signed an extension the day everybody was worried -

Yeah there’s no way sark goes to bama now. Not with the way Texas has been rebuilt and seeing how difficult it is for anyone to step in Sabans shadow. I think bama will have a tough time convincing any of the top 5-10 established coaches to go there. Urban Meyer maybe? I could see an nfl hire though. -
How do you think he will play Penn State? Because I don't think a similar gameplan will work against them. Imo, Ohio State allowing 166 rushing yards to Texas "playing honest" with a light box doesn't bode well for them vs Penn State. I think we could have gone for 200+ - we abandoned the run at times and had drives stall and get off schedule to Arch's accuracy issues. You can say Ohio State was just allowing Texas to run on light boxes, playing bend don't break but Texas was doing the same thing if not more so (giving ample respect to Ohio State's air attack) and still held Ohio State's ground game in check. The preseason expectation was that Penn State will probably have the best running game in the country, which means better than Texas'. Also have a running QB (that has a lot more experience than Arch). If their WR corps is improved from last season in the way people are predicting, Ohio State may not be able to successfully rely on loading the box and allowing Allar to attempt to beat them through the air (which is what they have done every time facing Allar-led PSU so far). Should be interesting. Y'all are a good team, but I think the apparent lack of run game and run defense compared to last year will making repeating difficult. Or maybe our run game and run D is just that good? I would definitely love for that to be the case, but I'm skeptical of that as well.

Basically what happened to Kalen DeBoer. He was offered big money to keep the Ferrari on the road like Ryan Day. Not sure even a big bag could convince Sark to do another full on rebuild of a blueblood program. I think the only college HC job he might leave for is Southern Cal because that's where he grew up. Otherwise it's Texas or NFL. -

Bama fans, administrators, donors all LOVE Sark. I think he’s perfectly happy in Austin and feels like he is better equipped at UT to win big than anywhere else. But I could also see Bama framing it to him as “you could come save Alabama football” and bring in Saban to make the hard sell. They might offer him crazy money and make him say no. I still don’t think he’d leave, but it might be a 50/50 decision if Bama came at him hard. -
We had two drives the whole game in which we had snaps in the redzone. Let me recap them: 3rd quarter: Driving in from the 28 yard line, 3rd&2. 8 yard run from Wisner sets us up in the redzone. After that highly successful run, we had 6 plays in the redzone. Only one of them was a run by a runningback- a 2 yard run by Baxter from the 3 yard line on 3rd down (that's a successful RZ run). Instead of dying on the hill of your RB running it in, or calling a imaginative play/bootleg, we choose to try to do QB sneak. Here, I'd say our true running game (even discounting some successful QB runs) was successful, we just didn't give our RBs a true chance to finish the job. 4th quarter: Driving in from the 35 yard line, 3rd&2. 5 yard run from Wisner sets us up in the high redzone. Again, after that highly successful run, we had 5 plays in the redzone with only one run from a RB (Successful 3 yds on 2nd and 6). This was followed by two incompletions (no bootlegs, either). We essentially abandoned RB run game in the redzone (mistake #1) and also refused to be imaginative (mistake #2). We need to give our RBs room to actually fail in the RZ before we say that they can't run in the RZ. True/crazy stat: every time we ran the ball in 3rd and short (non goal line) with RBs, we converted for 1st downs. The problems were #1- we had way too few 3rd and shorts, and #2- we had way too many instances of poor passing on 3rd and short.

There was no doubt the bama finebaum callers would be out in full force after that fiasco on sat. Question is who would even be a realistic hire? Would they go back to Dabo? Smart? Can’t see either one of those guys wanting to leave. Gruden? -

Problem for Bama fans is they can't fire DeBoer unless they get about 200 million in donations. DeBoer's buyout is 67 million. Rest of the coaching staff a good 15 million. They have to pay the next guy at least 100 million guaranteed to come in if they want a proven, big time coach rather than an up-and-comer. The rest of the staff will probably need 20 million. - Today

Florida looked much better at home against *checks notes* Long Island than we did on the road against Ohio State, you see. 😉

No doubt. It was a great gameplan and it helps to have defensive quarterbacks on the field like styles and downs. -

OTF Premium Texas vs San Jose State Game Week Thread
Okcool replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Why all the hype with Florida this early?? I find it hard to believe they’ll have a defense remotely close to what we faced against Ohio State and I believe our defense just gets better as the season goes along. Florida doesn’t have the roster that OSU has or ours for that matter. Guess I’ll find out when I’m there for the game 🤷♂️. -
To win this game, we needed better execution and effort from our offensive line and running backs. Ohio State wanted us to run the ball. They sat back in Cover 3 snap after snap, daring us to throw downfield. If future opponents take a similar approach to Patricia, we'll need to be able to make them pay on the ground and force them to commit more players to the box. That will open up the play-action shots downfield, which is a big strength of Arch's game. We've had trouble running the ball when we need to in the red zone for three years now. I'm starting to think this is a coaching problem and not a scheme problem. I'm looking at you, Coach Flood.

San Jose State allowed 12 sacks the entire season last year. I don't think they are going to allow Eget to sit back there and go through progressions. Their offense isn't built that way. He threw 7 passes last week 20+ yards down the field and most of them are just go balls. They are actually going to test our secondary a bit which is a good thing.
