  21. I remember watching the evening news on 10 November 1989. I was a freshman at Texas then, 17 years old. It was the day after the Berlin Wall fell. Reporters were in the oval office talking to President Bush and Secretary of State James Baker. The reporters were trying to get them to act excited and gloat over winning the Cold War. Bush and Baker wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. They just excoriated Bush for not showing more "emotion." At the time, I knew he couldn't do it and wondered what they were trying to accomplish. The Soviets still had nuclear weapons and it was an extremely volatile time. News people knew the deal, but they pushed just get a "story." Glad that's not happening now.
