My wife and her family (Utes) are ready for the Scalley era. Married to her cousin. He'll be a dang good HC. He can recruit and knows Texas well.

He was already planning on retiring after next season, but that deal definitely could have accelerated it.

That’s fair — his language said stepping down. Utah related sites are calling it a retirement.

One is retiring and the other is stepping down. Retiring presumably means he's done coaching.

They are in fact not the same thing. You can step down and go coach elsewhere. When you retire you are saying you’re done coaching. If I were betting I’d wager it has to do with their recent dabble into PE.
