S'Maje Burrell no longer on the Texas team

Burrell had plans to enter the portal on Monday when the window opened. The linebacker out of North Crowley had been dealing with a back injury for most of the offseason and just recently added a shoulder injury to his report after a day in the weight room last week. To add to the fact, Burrell was not seeing eye to eye with Sarkisian from earlier in the offseason as well.

Following the news of the Sweat incident, there was little to ponder about for Sarkisian.

Burrell was announced on Tuesday to no longer be a member of the Texas Football program. He will officially enter the portal on Monday, the 15th.

It’s a shame as he’s got talent. Hope he can get his life together as he seemed like a good smart kid during the recruiting process. Definitely needs a fresh start.  We’ve got plenty of stud recruits waiting in the wings as well

Very unfortunate. S'maje is a great kid. Got caught on the wrong end of a few bounces and now he is playing from behind the eight ball a bit.

Leaving the scene of an accident for a driver in Texas is a crime and it’s likely he will be charged. It’s  very unfortunate. But at least no one got hurt.

So he was initially reported as the driver but that was retracted

Freshman linebacker S'Maje Burrell is no longer on the Texas team.

We will have more shortly.

Hate to hear this. I’m sure Sark has a zero tolerance in place for this kind of thing. It’s all about keeping your culture in place.

I wonder which "sports car" Dodge makes?  The Viper has been out of production for several years.  It is weird that Burrell's father would identify himself as a police officer.

Little wonder UT athletics was perturbed.

Not at all unusual for his Dad to self identify himself as a police officer when reaching out to another department in relation to a crime especially since it’s his son that is the subject. I’m sure his agency has a policy in this regard.

In a statement released by the school, UT coach Steve Sarkisian said that "We’re aware of the situation involving S’Maje Burrell and have suspended him indefinitely from all team activities for conduct detrimental to the program." No further details were given.  https://www.statesman.com/story/sports/college/longhorns/football/2024/04/10/texas-football-team-suspends-linebacker-smaje-burrell-indefinitely/73283697007/
