Before you can be creative you have to be able to do the basics.  Dont get punts blocked.  Dont miss FGs.  Dont make stupid plays like calling for a fair catch when someone else will receive the ball.  And last but not least knock off the stupid penalties.  If they can unscrew those things then creativity may be worth something.
