Texas Baseball Staff Morning Update (Sun 10:05 AM)

On Texas Football is expecting a couple of shakeups to the Texas staff beginning today. Texas A&M is set to hire new Texas assistant coach Michael Earley as their head coach. Earley spent the last three years in College Station on Jim Schlossnagle's staff.  We expect that hire to be made public soon.

The fact is Texas A&M Athletic Director Trev Alberts set his sights on Earley after failing to lock in a couple of other candidates. It's somewhat of a risky hire for the Aggies, as Earley has no head coaching experience and only eight years of coaching experience total. I've been told the big money at Texas A&M was expecting a much bigger name when it came to fulfilling this position.

We also expect the Longhorns to lose Caleb Longley from their staff.  Longley spent the last three years in Austin under former coach David Pierce.  Both Longley and Earley spent time working together at Arizona State.

OTF does not expect for anyone else on the staff to leave at this time.

What does this mean for Texas? It mainly affects portal recruiting, as it will be much tougher to pull the Texas A&M players who entered the portal after Schloss' departure. We originally thought the Horns could land three to four former Aggies, but now I don't believe that to be the case.

Texas continues to be very active in the portal and that will be the status quo over the next few weeks.

As I reported yesterday, the Longhorns are also set to make an off the field hire in a pivotal role. In fact, that hire has already been made, but expect it to be public relatively soon. It's a name Texas fans are familiar with and will generate some buzz.

When you say a couple shakeups, you mean outside of Langley? Surely we don’t lose Max or Cain due to this…

No. The couple are Earley and Longley.

But thank you for reminding me to put in there that we don’t expect Max or Cain to be gone.

I have absolutely zero knowledge of whether or not he’d be willing to leave, but Josh Elander played for Schloss, coached under him, and he’s from Austin. Definitely worth at least a phone call. Only problem is he’s already the AHC at Tennessee and Cain is currently in that role at Texas.

Interesting on the hire that will create buzz. Do we know any names to look out for, on the hitting coaching search?

Working on this. Will have an update when I can.

Blake, very curious to see what you think a realistic goal is for next season? I know that all of the portal additions and subtractions aren’t done but I’m interested to know what you think a successful realistic first season in the SEC is

It will be interesting to see if a$m can keep all of their portal guys.  Occupy LF posted on IT that most, if not all, of the a$m portalers would have already received an NIL offer sheets from interested schools.  The market is set.  Will those guys be willing to go back to a$m for less than what they've been offered on the open market?

Aggies have been waging a Jihad on Schloss and his staff for all of their lying and duplicitous behavior over the past two months. I’m happy to see they have entered the forgiveness phase of grief. Schloss’ coaching tree was already superlative, but it has just gotten better.

I was told that Tulo doesn't want an on-field coaching role.  His kids are getting older and into their own baseball, etc. and he wants to be able to spend the time with them.  That's why he was happy in his Director role.
