Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted February 2 Moderators Share Posted February 2 Figured it's time to get this going ... Texas sits at 14-7, 3-5 in Big 12 play. Absolutely have to split one of the next two ... @ TCU Iowa State
Moderators Gerry Hamilton Posted February 2 Author Moderators Share Posted February 2 Texas has a legit shot here with 6-11 skilled big man from NBA Africa in Senegal Ulrich Chomche if he goes to college for a year ... he made an OV around the UH game Monday-Tuesday. He visited USC last weekend. Arizona also in the mix ... NBA G-league ignite definitely in play here too.

Longhornfocus
Happy to see more size recruited in the backcourt. Like our two guys but hard to be elite (particularly defensively) playing two 6’0 guards. Also believe those two guards compliment Weaver’s skillset well. Not holding my breath on Chomche until he’s enrolled on campus but that would be one heck of a cherry on top of the class.

Texas is in a tough spot this season in one way ... the big lineup protects against smaller backcourt, but the flip side is bad spacing in the big lineup and without a wing that is a threat off the bounce or as a perimeter threat (Mitchell). Three guards is the Horns best chance to get to the tournament this season, without question.

Really needed Mitchell to shoot some this year, even if to only keep the defense honest & provide a touch more spacing. Shedrick’s nagging injury has hurt his production but unfortunately the team isn’t in a position where they can afford to shut him down for a week or two. Turns out our biggest portal miss was Cam Spencer, at least in regards to fit and team need.
HookemHorns
Missed reading your basketball takes, would love some of your high level season thoughts: 1) How do you think Rodney Terry is doing? 2) Think we make the dance? 3) Why are we overall struggling more than expected?

Man I hope we didn’t concede him…he has been good. Also wish we had picked up Sellers over Horton. Still trying to figure out what’s up with Horton. I know his D is bad but his offense has been too. We need him to play more toward his ceiling IMO

Moderators CJ Vogel Posted February 2 Moderators Share Posted February 2 I mentioned it this past week after the Houston game, I liked a lot about what the Horns did to close out that game with their five on floor. If that’s the approach they come back with moving forward, I would expect an improvement on the scoreboard.
pinkman_90
Sup @Gerry Hamilton ! Happy to join this board with you and the crew. What’s going on with Shedrick? Was supposed to be solid on defense with an expanding offensive game. He’s looked clueless since December. And Horton is basically unplayable. Two whiffs in the portal when they had no room for error.
Sensitive Ponytail Man
I still have hopes that Shedrick can get healthy and come on. He has the tools. He's had some really bad luck with getting hit in tender spots all season. He generally plays hard but can never seem to get lathered up and in the flow of the game. I've seen him pass up too many opportunities to make a move to the basket. He should be getting to the line more than he does. But if he can get healthy all that can change in a hurry.

Difference maker for UConn He's not on any NBA mock drafts that I have seen ... but will not surprise me if he makes a team one day.

Two whiffs in the portal when they had no room for error. One is he's never been able to stay healthy. IMO, it impacts rebounding and defense the most. Hunter not developing at all has been the thing that's hurt this team the most IMO.

Just feels very clunky with no identity. Hard to develop when pieces don’t fit. Think they need more Weaver. He might be lacking in some areas but you know what you’re gonna get. 100% effort, intensity, and athleticism. Need an identity.
Quinncent McManning, Jr.
Do you think the poor defense is more a function of recruiting the wrong guys in the portal or coaching? I remember the Beard teams were tenacious on defense, and other than Weaver I don't see any of that same type of fire playing defense. It's not like Terry wouldn't have figured out the defensive tactics that Beard was using as an assistant.

He's making the same TO's getting too deep he did early on in college. Has to develop there.
