Lots of movers. Need some more movers at DT, but that’s about the only position I’m concerned about. Very fascinated how the WR rotation plays out. Is Gilbeau finally 100% or will he never be the same following the knee injury? I wasn’t sure which one you were saying in the article

Immediate Wednesday practice news

Seems like the receiver has to slow down in all these clips. Really hoping Ewers get that deep ball dialed in this year, could unlock everything on offense -
Texas seed & NCAA Tournament Thread
HookemHorns replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Looking like a 9, with a tough opening round game and a very challenging 2nd if we make it that far. But I know that I, for one, am thrilled they made the tourney. It was looking very iffy for a long while. -
March Madness Report: Senior Day vs. Oklahoma
HookemHorns replied to Gerry Hamilton's topic in On Texas Football Forum
Just my opinion but fans consistently tend to overrate conference tourney results and their potential impact on seeding. Whatever seed we are today is unlikely to improve unless we make a serious run in the tourney. Likewise if we lose the first game in the conference tourney I don’t think it’ll impact our seed. It seems to me year after year fans think these tourneys make a big difference and then are surprised when seeding looks about the same as it did before the tourney -

Gerry at some point I’d love your 10,000 ft view of Texas football recruiting. How are we doing in your eyes? Things trending well? Striking a good balance between OOS and instate recruits? -
Not Gerry but I think RT did well with the roster we have. The freshman both bailing really hurt the roster construction, and Shedrick/Weaver/Disu all being hurt during the offseason hurt as well. IMO we need to see how this offseason goes and how next season turns out. If he can get a good team next year between returning players/freshman signees/portal players than he may have a shot at sticking around. This roster was poorly constructed but it is what it is and it’s hard to know how much losing those freshman hurt RT’s vision for this team. Development has been hit and miss. Hunter seems like he has regressed. Weaver is getting better and better. Mitchell has developed but not as much as I hoped.

Any word on why Ford didn’t run or do drills? I’m worried he’s a slip-down-the-draft candidate -
That was as satisfying a win as I’ve experienced in awhile. Hat tip to RT, he course corrected and got the team ready for that one. Need that same energy every night, as hard as that is. I love following the bubble and agree with your assessment. First priority of course is to make the tourney. But I’d really like to avoid the 8/9 seed line. One win would be tough, but if we did win that’d likely have us playing Purdue or Arizona second round. Both those teams choke consistently but still…

Spring Ball Agenda | Target Splits

Wouldn’t shock me to see Moore get some run too. He flashed to me in the spring game last year, even with the drops. -

What’s his issue? Very worrisome it’s still lingering -

Very surprised to read a Dubose note this early. Good sign. Surprising, but a pleasant one. Love that note on Cruz. He was one of my very favorite recruits. Just seems like a guy that will maximize. He will be a leader too. That was a big get by Flood. -
Way-Too-Early 2024 SEC Rankings (Feb. 9)

Very navigable schedule. Very. Didn’t realize they got such a great draw. If I were a betting man I’d be laying some $$ down on them. -
Way-Too-Early 2024 SEC Rankings (Feb. 9)

Top 3 is pretty clear for me, though I’m still shaking off the cobwebs from my sever case of battered-fan syndrome. Georgia-Texas-Ole Miss The next tier is fluid. I too tend to think Bama will be just fine, but if teams figure out Milroe then they might be in trouble. I can see OU surprising to the upside or getting shellacked. Ditto LSU. Missouri is a good sleeper pick with all that offensive talent. Auburn could surprise too. Bottom tier of Vandy, Arky, MSU, S Carolina seems pretty set. And the Aggies…hope they crash and burn but they’re definitely in the fungible middle tier -
Agree the worry isn’t with this year, it’s 2025 that will be worrisome at IDL. I do believe Bledsoe will surprise to the upside, he really flashed last year IMO

Where is Sanders in the DB pecking order? -
Love our class. Just love, love, love our class. I think all have the potential to contribute. I don’t see any obvious reaches, which is rare. That being said I’d move Kibble, Gibson, JJR, and Hills down I’d move Wilson, Butler, and Smith up. Hot take: wouldn’t surprise me to see Wilson as the best corner from this class.

Texas Basketball Discussion

Did we back off Cam Spencer? My read was we sure tried but failed. Man I hope we didn’t concede him…he has been good. Also wish we had picked up Sellers over Horton. Still trying to figure out what’s up with Horton. I know his D is bad but his offense has been too. We need him to play more toward his ceiling IMO
