DT Tiaoalii Savea was wearing his usual #98 for the OU game.  If Chatman was changed to defense,  he would almost certainly have a different number because it was already taken on the defensive side of the ball.  The number was apparently still available for an offensive player.

Chatman had a high number to be the bonus-sized tight end like Malik Agbo.

He then switched jersey numbers back to the 70s along with Malik Agbo in the 4th quarter. If Texas would have held on that last drive, the Horns were going to put the backups in.
